A song to be forever remembered, my dear "Old" Dad served in the "Great War" and as did his brother, My grandmother must have been one of the Few who sent two sons off to War and Both returned,, not too many families had the good fortune, But both returned "Scarred" from the experiences.
My great grandfather sent 2 sons and a grandson off to war and lost all 3 of them as they all perished at the battle of the Somme what a terrible time that must of been so heartbreaking for him and the family it happened long before i was born but it breaks my heart just thinking about it 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Lyric: Nights are growing very lonely, Days are very long; I’m a-growing weary only List’ning for your song. Old remembrances are thronging Thro’ my memory. Thronging till it seems The world is full of dreams Just to call you back to me. There’s a long, long trail a-winding Into the land of my dreams, Where the nightingales are singing And a white moon beams: There’s a long, long night of waiting Until my dreams all come true; Till the day when I’ll be going down The long, long trail with you. All night long I hear you calling, Calling sweet and low; Seem to hear your footsteps falling Ev’rywhere I go. Tho’ the road between us stretches Many a weary mile. Somehow I forget That you’re not with me yet When I think I see you smile.

Thank you. My Father used to sing this to me at night when he tucked me into bed

Beautifully arranged and sung. Quite possibly my favourite nostalgic song.
This is probably the best rendition of this song I've found so far.
Dad severed as the Company Artificer in the Machine Gun Corps, Uncle Leo, in the Royal Engineers!
Hi, I'm not years old enough to remember that. But I think the text speaks for itself. Thank you
Coral singing at it's best, a beautiful male choir.

Lyric:
Nights are growing very lonely,
Days are very long;
I’m a-growing weary only
List’ning for your song.
Old remembrances are thronging
Thro’ my memory.
Thronging till it seems
The world is full of dreams
Just to call you back to me.
There’s a long, long trail a-winding
Into the land of my dreams,
Where the nightingales are singing
And a white moon beams:
There’s a long, long night of waiting
Until my dreams all come true;
Till the day when I’ll be going down
The long, long trail with you.
All night long I hear you calling,
Calling sweet and low;
Seem to hear your footsteps falling
Ev’rywhere I go.
Tho’ the road between us stretches
Many a weary mile.
Somehow I forget
That you’re not with me yet
When I think I see you smile.
