My great grandfather on my mother's side was a Canadian soldier during WW2. He fought until the war ended and when he came home, the first thing he did was dance with my great grandmother to this song. I remember him asking to have this song play while he laid on his deathbed. This song makes me both sad and happy. Sad because it is a beautiful and powerful song, but it reminds me of a truly great man that I wish I knew better. But, it makes me happy because I know why he wanted to have it play when he passed. He wanted it to play, because he wanted to remember and relive the moments he had with his wife and with the men he served with. Thank you Great Grandpa for fighting so I could be who I am today. This song reminds me of one of the finest gentleman I've ever met. He was one of the RAF pilots on D-day flying over Normandy and was supporting the American troops landing on the beaches. Some of his stories were horrific, romantic and truly British, used to tear up when he was talking about the friends he lost, as much as I slightly hesitated, he insisted. Sadly he has passed away now, but plane his friend flew was on display at Duxford for some time.

@@noetwijkmans5718 Me too.
My father was Gen Patton's company commander [808th tank destroyer battalion]. He made it home. I remember this was the only song I ever saw him and Mom dance to. RIP Vera Lynn, Dad and Mom.
Hey it's been awhile why don't you cheer up and rewatch this?
Watching this after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and seeing how China is currently acting over Taiwan is giving me suspicions fallout vibes
May Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace
Thank you ladies... beautiful song... brings a tear to my eyes... *thinking of my folks and family that are all in heaven now. GBU!!
We will meet all our loved ones some day.
it reminds me of the old days HK was still the British colony, I keep loads of coins with Queen‘s head in a big piggy bank, God saves the Queen and British, i learnt a lot from British and one thing is always in my mind “there is a light at the end of tunnel”, a Liverpool fan from HK.
You are correct there, I cannot imagine the Hong Kong People ever acquiescing to the communist gangsters across the water. I have lived and worked in H.K. and I list it as a Great, Independent nation, wonderful and hardworking people there. God Bless them all.Terry Offord
Now u r live in chinese colony
Keep fighting for your freedom, we’ve got our own fight with commies here in the states
can come to the UK from Jan and get a fast track to citizenship.
Oh save it, this is classic Stockholm syndrome, there were good and bad during that time, but your attitude is the one that is keeping HK from moving on, and we need to move on, we have always been part of China, no point in convincing yourself you're not.
Прекрасная песня! Вне времени и границ. И прекрасное исполнение 😍
God bless you...
My grandma on my dads was in the Air Force in ww2 (her job was to make sure the weather was safe enough for planes to fly in) love you always grands miss ya so much😢🌹🕊🕊🕊

@Doctor Phobos It’s so cool to see other weather Airmen (former or current) around since we’re kind of a small field. What was it like being weather back then?
My great-grandfather somehow managed to smuggle in our country, a disk of Vera Lynn in 1944 and I still have it.
(My family was an anti-fascist Italian family, my great-grandfather one time even drew a mustache on a Mussolini's poster)
RIP ENZO CIAMPI (1900-1951)
Nice to relate to your comments Alessandria, I was a kid of 5 or 6, when we had Italian POW's living in a Prison camp adjacent to the Junior school I attended, (Ferncliffe Camp Calverley Woods, West Yorkshire. we kids loved the songs and music they would play on Accordions mainly, many occasions, the British Army guys who guearded them, would permit our entry where we would talk and play games, we didn't know what war was about at that age, but I shall always remember that most of those Italian'Prisoners ' actually stayed in England after the war and many opened interesting food shops.

In the US we are reminded of Mussolini by our current president. Pardon my vulgarity but we think of him as il Douche.
@@mikewhiskey5455 Mussolini wasn't the best, my grandpa agrees but don't compare him to Trump for the love of god! 🤣
@@a.l.c.7740 Comparing Mussolini to Trump is unfair to Mussolini? Yes, you're right. In so many ways Mussolini was the better man.
This hits different when ukarain people is escaping due to russia invasion...
I lost my father a month ago 25 March 2024. For some reason I keep coming back to this beautiful song because it makes me feel his presence. R.I.P. JASPER ALBERTUS SMIT... "rus sag Pappa"

Imagine listening to this song while sipping your Darjeeling tea reading the morning paper set in your a2 jacket sitting besides your hawker hurricane ready for the next mission, circa 1940.
Then it should be the 50s if you sit next to an Hunter ;) But I feel it anyway

Here for my great grandpa who served as a parachute rigger on the USS Attu in Pearl Harbor
can we please have groups like these in style again? songs about true love, longing, the feeling of a heart full of passion, songs about the human experiences and critique against the injustices of the world? i'm so tired of the past 30 years of nothing but, excuse my language, bitches, money and weed. it was never art.
this, this is art!
What you refer to seems to be an emerging trend. Check out some of the videos from a band called Broken Peach. Very similar approach as seen in this video. The band hail from Spain and most of the songs they perform are in English.
These kinds of bands and artists do still exist. The ones you're referencing are usually just the most popular ones aroynd.
People who comment stuff like this are so out of touch with modern music. I don’t mean to be rude but all you have to do is look for what you want, there’s countless genres now
