    I just checked at the site, and ALL of the Thunderbolts are gone.
    Looks like the guy that took apart mine was trying to get it for him or herself.
    Glad I got one before it's too late.
    Also all the Blowers are gone now too.

    Actually, I don't think they're rusted. The one that rotated manually probably had its gears stripped. The ones that were "stuck" we're probably because the rotators of thunderbolts are specially designed not to be able to be rotated manually. Also, you should have gotten a 1000T. They sound way cooler than the 1000s.

      exactly, especially considering the fact that thunderbolt reduction gears used worm gears, which are impossible to rotate against.

    So sad, so many sirens just sitting there unused... Thankfully moisture isn't that big of a problem, therefore minimal rust! What are they going to do with them all?

    How long are they? Is it free? What kind of equipment do you need to get one? What size truck should I use?

    Lol damn your quick at responding. Moisture is actually a bit of a problem. I think at one point the area these sirens are located in flooded.
    The interior of my siren is so horribly rusted. It wont rotate anymore and the chopper was rusted to the head cap.

    I have no idea what their intentions are. Im assuming they are just going to scrap them. There are a few mounting poles with no siren attached so maybe they scraped those or someone took them.

    Ohh ok. Yeah I'd bet someone else got a hold of a couple of them as well. I know I'd sure love to get a hold of one of those T-bolts before they're gone, rotating or not!

    that is unbelievably sad that they throw those wonderful old sirens out there to rust away...what a shame...sure hope you can get more of the parts, plus the rotating head..

    3:30 is the one I picked up, It was actually already disasembled for me! you have something to do with that?
    Also it does rotate, I played with the rotator engine for a while, and its turning great.

    I have one of Tucson’s SD10s and it must have been struck by lightning, because the motor was completely black and the windings were all tangled

      Ah thats a bummer. Still kinda neat to have one. But a shame its destroyed. Perhaps you can make it a project to replace the motor with something you can run at home?

      If you still need a motor, contact Werden Electric in Cincinnati OH. Last I heard, he has many siren parts still available for purchase. He's refurbished and installed older sirens around me.

    I removed the slip ring and i still cant get mine to rotate. When I took the chopper out, the interior had about 1/2 of an inch of rust build up. basically, this thing is hosed. I used half a can of penetrating oil and it still wont rotate.

    Yes they are, however the proper term is "Civil Defense" siren. They are commonly used now to warn for bad weather.

    you're rotator's rusted, did you try soaking everything in WD-40? it's supposed to loosten rusted parts.

    They are 1000's. Probably should have mentioned that. As for the blower pipes, those are pretty thick to me blower pipes. I think its a combination of mounting pole and blower pipe. Not sure why it is still all attached.

    I would love to get one myself, but the only problem is I have nowhere to put it.

    That's a great video! I think the control boxes, at least, should be saved. And a lot of other hard-to-get parts there... Screen brackets, even the pole pipes.

    if you go on Google maps and search this, "4674 South Houghton Road, Tucson, AZ" and go to street view, turn around, you can actually see the thunderbolts resting there

    Problem not. As cool as it would be to have one, I just don't have the room for it. I Highly dought it would even turn. Dont hold me to that though, I may change my mind later.

    No there is shaft that the outside of the siren rotates around. Water has gotten into it and it has damn near welded itself together.

      We just went out there tonight, there isn't much left of them. They are near a wash just discarded so I don't think you will get in trouble for taking any. We got a door off a control panel

    @lumpysnake took off all of the shroud and rold it up a cople of wood boards we used pipe cuters renches generator etc it toook about 4 hours and we got a good thunderbolt controll box and a sd-10 one

    I mean dc brushless. You can have a CD Roots blower motor, but a dc brushless is smaller, faster and sealed.

    These would fit right in here, Cincinnati is covered in Tbolts and a few SD-10's.

    Send those blower belts my way. We have a 1000 in Elkhart In that has had a broken blower belt for over a year and a half now.

    I lived on grant and dodge area and my dad said they removed the one that was across the street from us a few years back, im sure it ended up at the graveyard area.
