I just checked at the site, and ALL of the Thunderbolts are gone. Looks like the guy that took apart mine was trying to get it for him or herself. Glad I got one before it's too late. Also all the Blowers are gone now too.
Actually, I don't think they're rusted. The one that rotated manually probably had its gears stripped. The ones that were "stuck" we're probably because the rotators of thunderbolts are specially designed not to be able to be rotated manually. Also, you should have gotten a 1000T. They sound way cooler than the 1000s.
So sad, so many sirens just sitting there unused... Thankfully moisture isn't that big of a problem, therefore minimal rust! What are they going to do with them all?
Lol damn your quick at responding. Moisture is actually a bit of a problem. I think at one point the area these sirens are located in flooded. The interior of my siren is so horribly rusted. It wont rotate anymore and the chopper was rusted to the head cap.
I have no idea what their intentions are. Im assuming they are just going to scrap them. There are a few mounting poles with no siren attached so maybe they scraped those or someone took them.
Ohh ok. Yeah I'd bet someone else got a hold of a couple of them as well. I know I'd sure love to get a hold of one of those T-bolts before they're gone, rotating or not!
that is unbelievably sad that they throw those wonderful old sirens out there to rust away...what a shame...sure hope you can get more of the parts, plus the rotating head..
3:30 is the one I picked up, It was actually already disasembled for me! you have something to do with that? Also it does rotate, I played with the rotator engine for a while, and its turning great.
Ah thats a bummer. Still kinda neat to have one. But a shame its destroyed. Perhaps you can make it a project to replace the motor with something you can run at home?
If you still need a motor, contact Werden Electric in Cincinnati OH. Last I heard, he has many siren parts still available for purchase. He's refurbished and installed older sirens around me.
I removed the slip ring and i still cant get mine to rotate. When I took the chopper out, the interior had about 1/2 of an inch of rust build up. basically, this thing is hosed. I used half a can of penetrating oil and it still wont rotate.
I found them! Your on Houghton road! All I need to do is find out how to take one! I won't get in trouble will I? Trying to get into TPD and like to keep a clean record.
They are 1000's. Probably should have mentioned that. As for the blower pipes, those are pretty thick to me blower pipes. I think its a combination of mounting pole and blower pipe. Not sure why it is still all attached.
You betchya. So how did you manage to get that T-bolt? did you have to pay for it? I would love to get one myself, but the only problem is I have nowhere to put it. I hate living in an apartment.
Hey glad to hear you have one. Do whatever you like with it. Aside from causing the neighbors to freak out that is. I think its a great idea to try and restore it.
That's a great video! I think the control boxes, at least, should be saved. And a lot of other hard-to-get parts there... Screen brackets, even the pole pipes. Charles
if you go on Google maps and search this, "4674 South Houghton Road, Tucson, AZ" and go to street view, turn around, you can actually see the thunderbolts resting there
Problem not. As cool as it would be to have one, I just don't have the room for it. I Highly dought it would even turn. Dont hold me to that though, I may change my mind later.
I have two questions. 1. Do you have to pay for one? 2. Do they just let you take it and are there people there who'd help with a forklift or something like that?
We just went out there tonight, there isn't much left of them. They are near a wash just discarded so I don't think you will get in trouble for taking any. We got a door off a control panel
@lumpysnake took off all of the shroud and rold it up a cople of wood boards we used pipe cuters renches generator etc it toook about 4 hours and we got a good thunderbolt controll box and a sd-10 one
Wow. From that link you have imbedded you can see the thunderbolts from space. I wonder how long they've been there cuz i know google maps images aren't exactly recent.
Lol I guess I just caught it right after you posted it. Oh wow, I guess they look better on the video than they really appear in real life. So is the city/county just going to leave them there to rust away or do they eventually plan to do something with them?
I'll be in Phoenix May 15-24, i just have no way of getting one back to Ohio. :( (I'm job hunting in Phx). These would fit right in here, Cincinnati is covered in Tbolts and a few SD-10's.
I lived on grant and dodge area and my dad said they removed the one that was across the street from us a few years back, im sure it ended up at the graveyard area.

broken solar panel well if you want one, there is some in Tucson and Phoenix.
exactly, especially considering the fact that thunderbolt reduction gears used worm gears, which are impossible to rotate against.
Leafpool 737 where in Phoenix?!?
@@ravensight1 he has a mini one made by himself plus he lives in Nebraska which is way too far from Arizona.
So sad, so many sirens just sitting there unused... Thankfully moisture isn't that big of a problem, therefore minimal rust! What are they going to do with them all?
I have a few questions:
How long are they? Is it free? What kind of equipment do you need to get one? What size truck should I use?
No way it is free.
Yeah they never pay. You gonna have to pay like 200-1000$
I went here today all the poles are there but sirens anymore
Lol damn your quick at responding. Moisture is actually a bit of a problem. I think at one point the area these sirens are located in flooded.

R.I.P. SD-10 :( you bring back great memories now we are stuck with single tone sirens... I will never forget you
hey the thunderbolt 1000 has a good single tone to it.
N617A it did also the dual tone sirens
Tyler Copeland What about 1003's?
@@cartridgestudios436 dual tone

@Tboltmaniac I wondered where that thing went. Its gotta weigh about 500 lbs how did you move it?
I went over to the adjacent building and asked who owns the property and sirens.
3:30 is the one I picked up, It was actually already disasembled for me! you have something to do with that?

Thats so sad their just sitting there :(
So many communites could be using these sirens.
BTW, your cute :D
I have one of Tucson’s SD10s and it must have been struck by lightning, because the motor was completely black and the windings were all tangled
Ah thats a bummer. Still kinda neat to have one. But a shame its destroyed. Perhaps you can make it a project to replace the motor with something you can run at home?
Wavelength well I’m trying to get a new motor from west Shore Services
@@arizonawarningsirens6067 well do post back if you find a good solution. I would love to hear the siren sing!

Yes they are, however the proper term is "Civil Defense" siren. They are commonly used now to warn for bad weather.
Iumpysnake I was there on Monday and I got that SD-10 that was sitting out the it had good bearings in it i was supprized
Seeing all these sirens in such a place makes me sad. Kudos to you for rescuing one of them! :D
How did you get a big city like that to talk to you about doing business like that? Also how did they price your TBolt.
Oh, man that is going to be a bad problem for Zeus. The thinner part below the housing for the chopper and motor, right?
you're rotator's rusted, did you try soaking everything in WD-40? it's supposed to loosten rusted parts.
hey lumpysnakle did the blower have a big pully on the compresser part ?

This is ACTUALLY legitimately sad.

That would be so sweet to rummage around and take one home!
How did they find you or how did you get a hold of them?
I know there aren’t really any sirens there anymore; it’s just the poles, but I want to know, why is it just T-Bolts and SD-10s?
We're is that location?
Tucson!!!
They have/had the same thing i coopersville. Im not sure if its stil there.
on that last picture, What was that panel for? The thunderbolt or sd-10?

Any siren graveyards in Ohio or PA?
I’m in Florida can I see this on satellite? I keep zooming in on the planes on The storage site
How much did you pay for your thunderbolt?
I live in arizona I know we don't get a lot of tornados but how much are they i want one
wow all those sirens
Theres still one up (its an SD-10), on Grant and Wilmont on the South West quad.
how long do u think these will be sitting here? if its too long then maybe in 4 years i could drive down there.
What about Just the siren itself. Minus the horn?
Excellent video!
***UPDATE*** Google Earth does give a clearer shot, but I see no Thunderbolts in the picture, so they were all removed before the pic was taken.
what kind of siren replacded the thunderbolt and the SD10?
What cities did they belong to
Tucson, Arizona

the rotator motors are brushless. They are capacitor start induction run

dang. any SD-10s?
A thunderbolt siren would make a good alarm clock
Lol, Imagine waking up to a 125 db attack signal. Talk about sheer panic.
@OkSirenguys no the sirens are still there, its just all the thunderbolts are gone.
Problem not. As cool as it would be to have one, I just don't have the room for it. I Highly dought it would even turn. Dont hold me to that though, I may change my mind later.
No there is shaft that the outside of the siren rotates around. Water has gotten into it and it has damn near welded itself together.
Did you get that blower? I went there today, but the blower wasn't there.
Yea SD-10s are heavy as hell. Mine was 800 pounds.
Jesus!

Are all the thunderbolts 1000's? R there any 1000t's?
I just got my thunderbolt and Whelen WPS 4004 there so beautiful and works pretty good
Did you take some sirens?
@chicagolandhobby All 4 of the thunderbolts have been taken. Just a few smashed SD-10's remain.
All or most of the sirens here are being restored by siren enthusiasts who strive to bring these classic sirens back.
Is there anybody that is there during the day?If there isn't a preson you could probably take the SD-10
I wonder if there is any siren graveyards in illinois so I can easily get a Thunderbolt siren :|
why did they tack them down if there not replacing them,?
I mean dc brushless. You can have a CD Roots blower motor, but a dc brushless is smaller, faster and sealed.
