@Lockjaw they did. Though in ways the kept true to his nature, in the big battle, he had it won but Constantine ruined it for him. I didnt like him compared to the original. The thrawn books by zahn I did like though
Lockjaw I don’t think they did actually. Thrawn suffered from plot armour yes, because we can’t allow the bad guys to win. But here’s the thing. In the entirety of Rebels, how many mistakes did Thrawn actually make? How often was Thrawn shown to be incompetent?
The answer? Not very often. Thrawn was defeated yes, but every time it was due to the incompetence of others (such as Admiral Constantine and his multiple failings) or due to unforeseen factors (such as the attack of the bendu).
So yes, while it’s a cartoon and the good guys always win in the story, it wasn’t nearly as bad as other cases. Thrawn was at least shown to be competent, deadly, and a massive threat. Compare this to Grevious in the clone wars, who despite his reputation of being a great warrior and a Jedi killer, is portrayed as a blithering idiot and a coward.

@Michael Zoucha to retreat is to withdraw in an organized fashion in order to regroup, while fleeing is to run away to save your own life.
To lie in ambush is to use stealth to launch an attack, while to hide is to conceal yourself again to save your own life.
The difference being one you do because its the best option tactically, while the other you do out of self-preservation only.
At least I think that is the intent here.

Ahsoka Tano absolutely! I love his novels on Thrawn, both the old Thrawn trilogy and the new one. Both are supreme works of art. (Though I love the new trilogy better, it’s more centred on Thrawn, with him being the protagonist instead of the antagonist.

Interesting hypothetical: Ignoring the how, what if at the start of the Clone Wars Thrawn somehow became the leader of either the CIS or Republic military. So, basically could Thrawn beat Palpatine's manipulations in a direct conflict.

@@derrickstorm6976 Palpatine was quietly sabotaging both sides the whole time. If Thrawn was running things for one of the sides I doubt Palpatine could keep doing that for long, Thrawn doesn't seem like someone who wouldn't notice it quickly and then do something about it.

Surely Palpatine would feel bad for killing Thrawn because he had to lost such a great Military Genius, or he Will make sure he won't find out about anything.

Reading the Thrawn trilogy actually inspired me to start studying military history and command
When I first read Heir to the Empire and saw how Thrawn conducted himself, I felt from that moment that there was only one person that could play it in film (and that entire book trilogy SHOULD have been filmed) was Sir Anthony Hopkins. All I could hear in my head was the voice and intellect of Hannibal Lecter. Someone who knew EXACTLY what he was doing at all times, had restraint when needed, and fury when necessary.
My favorite Rebels character! Timothy Zahn’s books are amazing!
The Rebels would have been SCREEWED had Thrawn been in Tarkin's position.
Let's see how much:
Thrawn made Venators and ARC-170s obsolete with his doctrine and made them ISDs and TIE Fighters, so passing from a Fighters-Capital support doctrine (The one that rebels used) to Capital-Fighters support.
Best rebel fighter was X-Wing, and ARC-170 was an equal ship. Combine that with of course there being more ARC-170 as the Empire is big... Yep, F for the Revolution
Because of how bad he was at politics, I think he would've been useless in Tarkins position. At least compared to beeing grand admiral
@@idlecom i will be more specific. Grand Admiral Thrawn's strategic, logisticL, and tactical doctrine was far better suited for dealing with asymmetrical warfare. Hell, Tarkin and Sidious still could have built their Death Stars. Simply foregoing a couple dozen ISD's and a couple super star destroyers would have freed up the funding necessary for the TIE-Defender program.

I think this novel also shows how Ardiff becomes a confidant in Pellaeon as well as other Imperial staff. This book is great for humanizing certain Imperials.

@@whitneylackenbauer9782 I think what is great is that while Thrawn is certainly the leader in terms of being a conqueror, Pellaeon is certainly more a leader of sympathy, compromises and politics, he understands and oddly enough I think Thrawn chose Pellaeon because the man was an honorable person who wasn't as egotistical as other Imperials, he embraced the ideals of the Empire by being a representation of what those ideas should be in a person. I honestly think that is why Thrawn chose him, not just because he was compassionate towards other Imperials, but because rest assured Pellaeon wouldn't damage the survival of the Empire because of ego.

I can see the similarities in both of them
In a nutshell, a non-evil person and a man of honor, who however serves an extremely ferocious and evil state / empire. I think the comparison fits perfectly.

Thrawn's alien body guard/ assassins were known to sneak on and off the the flag ship. Thrawn's " major " mistake was him not having did a better job at helping the Noghri rebuild their home world. When Lady Vader explain that Thrawn was really damaging the Noghri world and not healing it, that was what put a blade through his back and into his heart.
( There are so many stories to tell. Novels yet to be written, comics that have not been drawn.)

Image the following. The reason why there is a huge hole in Zeta Halo when BroHammer picks up Cheif could be because the Infinity blew up, like the Autum, but Cortana wanted to keep it intact because shes looking for something.
Well, its been like 2 years from the end of halo 5, and Infinity was the last hope, so destroying it would bring us back to that gritty survival experice from halo 1. In fact, i can very well see a nearly identical version of Halo 1 happening between halo 5 and infinite. While id love to revisit that, its a story weve allready seen, which is why they jumped over it. At this point, the start of halo infinite, Cheof and BroHammer try to escape the Created, as well as reconnect with scattered UNSC forces. Remember, Infinity is MUCH bigger than Pillar of Autum, with 9000 naval crew and 7000 troops plus spartans. Its carring capability is only paralleled by the Pheonix-class's 9000 troops. Many of these forces very likly still are on the ring, and since Cortana cant blast them out by force, she has to play cat 'n mouse, were the promethians and submited covenant troops arnt anywhere nere as effective as Guardian in space. It really reminds me of that desprate yet slightly hopeful feeling the UNSC had during the war.
What would have happened if UNSC had defeated he covenant forces and captured the forerunner fleet in Halo Wars instead of destroying the ships?. #askeck

I love characters that have such good judgement that if they have a hunch or gut feeling everybody else is just like "Well I have my doubts but he's probably right as usual." *Thrawn and NCIS agent Leory Gethro Gibbs* They are so different in that Thrawn is a genius and diligent in studying the enemy and Gibbs has so much experience in investigating as he's done it for so long that he just knows, but they share that common quality.

I’m curious what the Yuuzhan Vong thought of Thrawn if they ever knew him. I know that sense the old Republic they had scouts in the Galaxy but did they have any information on Thrawn. After all when Thrawn was apart of the ascendancy defense force he was attacking Vong war ships, I would think that they would at least try to know who they were fighting against.
But he couldn't beat those space whales ;) Its tough to defeat good guy plot armor in Star Wars. Great Legends character though, one of my favorites.
I really enjoyed working under Thrawn as a Tie Fighter pilot during the Imperial campaign against the traitor Admiral Zaarin. He was very fair and even handed and us pilots preferred his upgrading of our ships over the shield less death traps we were used too. The Tie defender was a pilots dream.

#askeck Why are clones always shown as staffing the Republic Navy ships if there were never enough clones to staff anywhere close to the number of ships and support ships, as well as handle all of the support roles, from logistics to small fighter pilots, gunship crews and transport craft personnel, and even the legions themselves? What percentage of the Republic Navy was non clones, and how were they recruited into the Navy?
Thrawn breaks my immersion with some of the things he did. For all his positive characteristics (reasonable, a man of culture) I've never felt that "justified" some of the crazy things that he pulled off. It really feels like Thrawn either read the script, or the author is twisting reality to make their favorite character seem smarter.
cioplasm majic I love Thrawn, but sometimes I think you’re right. Especially that last bit - there are moments here and there where it seems the authors (and the community) favor him just a LITTLE too much.
He has like super hero level plot armour. Like way past batman levels.
100% agree, and its the big thing that makes it hard for me to like them. I dont mind having a tactical genius, but thrawn isnt so much a genius so much as literally omniscient. He constantly just guesses everything correctly. It would be more engaging to have him countering his opponents moves in real time even after being surprised. Or alternatively, have him be very good at predictions but maybe sometime have him predict incorrectly, and then he loses because he was so used to being right he didnt plan for anything else.

Think about it Grand Admiral Thrawn with Admiral Trench as his wing man, a second fleet commanded by Night Swan and Eli Vanto , support Fleet with (Legends) Gilad Pellaeon and Wullf Yularen, and wild card fleet of General Colony and Hondo Ohnaka ,Mandalorian, and Night sister mercenaries.
what if Thrawn's clone was awakened just before Luke and Mara got to the chamber. Imagine this scene: Luke and Mara walk into the chamber, they see the chair from behind and the Holonet beyond it. The chair turns around slowly.

If you want to be technical, in regards to the Caamas document, an imperial squad on Bothawui shot a blaster bolt into a crowd using a special projectile and the blame fell on Han Solo.

Although Trench does have the advantage that he tends to escape death again and again, he would've survived the Space Whales and gotten away from the tentacles eventually.
And as for being taken out by his own bodyguard…
But if Thrawn had a chance to study Harch art beforehand.
Thrawn is basically omniscient, while Trench is just a good commander. If they were to fight, Thrawn would just invent up a dozen weaknesses that Trench never had before and beat them handily.
also admiral trench was thought to have been vaporized at a battle once and in the clone wars he returned and then when his bridge got torpedoed with him still on it it in season 6 he returned AGAIN with like 2-4 cyborg limbs in star wars you never know who might have plot armor for certain situations

I just finished the audio book and I really liked its exploration of the reasons people fight, especially Imperial defectors and loyalists post Endor. To me characters like Yrica Quell fulfil the promise missed by characters like Fin and Iden Versio. But I don't know if that's just me.
I wonder if anything would have changed if he had commanded the UNSC during the Covenant-Human War (Halo).

If the CIS (the Expanded Universe version) had not been puppeted by Palpatine and actually took warfare and technology research seriously could their military have been as big as the Imperium Of Man's in size and numbers not exactly in power just in numbers?
Since the EU version going by the wiki the CIS navy had about a million capital ships when they were even being nerfed constantly by Palpatine.
admiral thrawn was like admiral yi (im from america but history is something i love) but admiral yi was an admiral in Korea around the 1500s and at this time Korea was corrupt as fuck he had very few ships but still won every battle with really good tactics but against an enemy with like 10x as more ships as them but the key is the japanese werent very used to naval combat they just got out of a 100 year civil war but they had SO many ships but yi died trying to save a chinese ship who wasnt used to his tactics and to keep moral up till the final battle was done he asked his son to dress up as him and keep beating the war drum and yi was constantly demoted cause of jealousy and corruption but every time someone found out he was the only guy who could do anything thrawn and yi are VERY similar

The V-19 was far more expensive then the V-wing. It's a stepping stone into the TiE- line of fighters and away from the more flexible ones. Also the ARC-170 and Z-95 filled the role of versatile craft.

I have a potential topic for you. What is the galactic religion? We know their are Jedi and Sith obviously but the common people don’t seem to actively practise a religion. This seems very odd especially since there is actual proof for supernatural powers due to the Jedi who are a large galactic spanning organization funded by the galactic government.
Besides small local religions are there any large galactic spanning religions? Especially organized religion?
Also as a fun thing Anakins kinda based on Jesus with the whole no father conception thing. Could a religion be founded with Anakin as space Jesus?
