Very interesting, thanks for the look inside. I've ordered one of these (broken) for £40, and my intention is to replace the LCD panel with something modern, maybe an IPS (still looking around for an appropriate panel) but looking at all the wiring, it looks like everything should be there to make it a relatively simple mod to do

@@ryanau3049 i wondered the same? Any luck? I want to clean the screen off but nothing out there. To do it the safest. Or I should say no videos at all

@@ryanau3049 gotcha, ya just dont know if its easier to go from the back and lift the screen if even possible if its glued or screwed in or some how warm up the front cover and take that off. Just driving me nuts theres like 2 pieces of old lint or something between the screen and cover.

@@ryanau3049 when you say you pryed the shell open you mean the black shield in front that covers the screen? It did look like you could pry it off. How did you put it back on?

@@ryanau3049 ok makes sense. But about the front if your looking at the screen itsself. Does that black border come off or is that a bad idea. Or a better one out there to get the dust off the screen

@@ryanau3049 ok so thank you for telling me that. It definitely doesn't come off. So anyone else that reads this dont do it you will just damage it. But what I did was open it up amd the glue that holds the screen is so old that it literally opens off with little effort. Now to minimize damage to screen I just opened it half way and cleaned out what I could and it looks way better. And no more annoying glue.

Hey thanks for the video. I have some dust and some wierd maybe glue inside the screen. I want to clean the screen off. Is it east to take the screen off to do a quick clean or should I take the plastic piece on top off? If thats even possible? Thx in adv

That "CPLD" is actually a microcontroller (Winbond W78E516) that is the main brain (buttons, setup ICs), the OSD chip (MTV048) is on the top middle of the board.

yep, I mispoke on that. Thanks for the update. Point is, this is a terrible product and avoid it like the plague. Its not even worth hacking and its only use is as a collectible time capsule

@@SegasonicfanDesigns You may have misconfigured it as it is not that bad. It is not like regular LCD displays, where you max contrast and brightness and you've set -- in this you have to adjust it lower (i think around middle is fine). Not the best panel, not much brightness and contrast but at least true rgb resolution and not too smeary (not too slow update) or laggy..
Also, it does not support S-Video from PS2 but: DVD(Composit AV) / RGB / Component(YPrPb) - you have to manually change the PS2 output to one or to the other.
For "hacking" there is a DB25 port on the back for more inputs: Composite, S-Vid, VGA, RGB-SCART(?)/YPrPb, (+tv-tuner?)

@@5mf1nc Yep, I'm aware of all of this. I found the display to be horrible, and a far cry from the Pelican GameGlass for PS2 (which I own and modified for RGB). To each their own though. If you enjoy it, that's what matters :) I'm just sharing my reivew of it to inform buyers before they made the $150+ mistake I made.

Hey i actually have the silver one of these and i have strange problem maybe you can help me with as you seem to know alot about these. When i use my joytech on my ps2 slim i only get 99% of the sound. so for example if i play a racing game i wont be able to hear my own cars engine but ill still hear everyone elses engines or ill still hear my own car hit a wall ect but i wont hear the main sound effects of my car or in other games it be the same but it could be i wont hear my characters voice but will still get 99% of all the other sound effects in the game. And only does this on the joytech screen if i use my ps2 on tv its fine so its not my ps2. Any idea what it could be its really bugging me and its not like i can easily get another the slim joytechs are rare and expensive so id rather fix this one

Have you ever opened it up to cpean the screen before looking to do it but is it safe to do so ?

Too bad you didn't do a more in-depth video about the screen, also did you ever do a follow up with the Pelican screen?

    • @SegasonicfanDesigns

it's an *awful* screen. I gave it more time than it deserved, really.
Might do a Pelican review later, but I do all these videos for free in my spare time, which is very sparse nowadays.

@@SegasonicfanDesigns You seem to have quite some knowledge about those kind of screens, as "bad" as this one is, I would have loved to see how much you could have improved it with mods and stuff.

@@SegasonicfanDesigns Btw, do you happen to know what material the screen is made of?
I do own one of these as well, but mine has quite some light scratches on it, and I can't tell if it's acrylic or some other plastic or glass.
