    Biltwell’s Gringo and Gringo S are back, and they’re better than ever. No, seriously, these popular helmets now carry an ECE certification. The Biltwell Gringo features an injection-molded ABS outer shell with a polystyrene liner. The comfortable liner is hand-sewn with brushed Lycra and diamond-stitched quilted foam padding. Additional features include a BioFoam chin pad, D-ring neck strap, and accented edging on the shell and eye port. Got a Bluetooth communicator? Speaker pockets are ready and waiting to accept Sena-style speakers. The Biltwell Gringo ECE and Gringo S ECE areDOT/ECE approved.

    With the ECE Gringos the rule of the thumb has been - helmet size up, cheek pads size down. E.G. if you'd like your ECE Gringo to fit as old DOT and you are usually size Large, go for XL ECE Gringo which comes with 15mm cheek pads then replace them with 10mm pads to make it more comfortable to wear and easier to put on and off.

    I wear an XL on both Gringo and Gringo S and they fit perfectly (I know I have a big noggin’). Just ordered the new ECE version and it’s supposed to get delivered today. Based on this video on the Revzilla site’s recommendations, I ordered a size up which is XXL. I measured my head and it measured 59cm and according to the Biltwell size chart I should wear an XL which I do in DOT only approved Gringos and they fit nicely. So I will give you guys an update once I receive and try on the helmet to see if sizing up is necessary. Cheers.

      Alright guys...I just received my new ECE Gringo. First off, I noticed the weight difference and actually put both DOT and ECE on my kitchen scale. The predecessor Gringo weighed at 1342 gr and the new ECE at 1482. It’s mainly because of the hard rubber padding added on the backside of the cheek pads and the chin guard. Now as far as the fitment goes.....going one size up to XXL almost didn’t fit me! The sides of my head would get caught and I would have to pull the helmet straps down really hard for my head to fit in. It’s because the cheek pads’ had been reduced to half the thickness and the other half are the rubber pads. And I’m pretty sure it’s also because of my alien shaped melon head haha. But once my head is in I immediately feel safer wearing the new helmet vs old Gringo. The only problem are the cheek pads that are really pushing up against my cheeks. I’m thinking about getting the thinner ones or just letting it break in eventually. Around the top of my head feels snug and secure without hotspots. The D rings have a red nylon tab now for easy buckling. Now I’m going for a ride to test out and see if I get a migraine from wearing a tight fitted helmet for a decent amount of time then that will be the deciding factor if I keep the helmet or not.

      Just got back from a 2.5 hour ride around town and no headaches or migraine! The helmet is definitely snug but tolerable. Cheek pads left lines on the bottom part of my cheeks but that's about it. I'm sure the fit will conform to the shape of my head as the time goes. Guess I'm keeping this new ECE Gringo. I got the flat titanium color and I matched it with Equilibrialist tan maska (visor) and it looks pretty sharp. Just my 2 cents, speed safely!

      @@bovver6092 thanks for the first hand review. I got the old gringo in a size xl as well, so it's good to know that the 2xl here will be a snug fit and not end up too loose.

    • @dhhjsjzjzjjhsjsjh
      @dhhjsjzjzjjhsjsjh 3 роки тому

      How did it end up breaking in? My head is 58 centimeters and BW website claims that’s a large but Revzilla says it’s a XL. You make it sound like it’s a 2XL. Scared to order now.

    I purchased one of the Gringo ECE's from Revzilla and it has quickly become my goto helmet. I typically wear it with riding glasses and so far it has not been too hot. We'll see what happens when we hit the 90+ degree weather this summer. The reviews for this on Revzilla mention it fits small but the sizing chart provided was spot on for me up top. My head measures 58.5cm and the large fits like a glove. I did have to replace the cheek pads to a smaller size because it was very tight in the cheeks. It comes with 24mm pads and I went down to 19mm and it now fits perfect. The only issue I have so far is I bought a Biltwell bubble shield for it but I cannot get it to snap on no matter how hard I push the snaps. I was going to try and tap them on with a mallet but it should not come to that. Anyway, highly recommend this helmet.

  • @deformemvita
    @deformemvita 5 років тому +6

    The cheek pads are removeable in the old version. I had to swap mine out for thicker ones because Biltwell thinks people who wear a medium also have an impossibly fat face. Also not feeling too much need to upgrade from the old version. I only use it for riding mopeds and shifty fifties.

  • @dhhjsjzjzjjhsjsjh

    Looking at the gringo s ece now, builtwell claims I’m a large at 22 7/8th but Revzilla says I’m a Xl. Some reviews claim to order up a size. Any opinions? Also how is the helm while wearing glasses?

  • @adammoore7210
    @adammoore7210 5 років тому +7

    I’ve seen a ton of reviews that praise Biltwell for not increasing the shell size (to the eye, at least) while making it ECE approved. However, they’re also saying that the relative sizing comes up smaller. For someone like me (and I assume a hell of lot of others...) who would normally wear a M, that means stepping up to a L and therefore the larger shell size... For me, that makes it look too big and bulky. Has anyone done anything with swapping out the liner on the M for a better fit?

    That's probably the one thing everyone complained about. That these throwback helmets were for looks and not safety. At least they got the safety down. Now they need vents. I understand that a vent might affect the look and ruin the whole "flush" look of it. But some small slits wouldn't hurt.

      Quality of material speaks for the Bullitt.
      Gringo S ECE: ABS plastic outer, polystyrene inner shell.

      Exactly.... The hard shell besides being flexible to disperse shock is not as important as the inside of the helmet. Tbh I would go for something better than polystyrene. I mean the couriers still fuck up my parcels layered with poly.
