Nice one guys 😎 👍
Rob would you be able to estimate your rough asking price, is it North of £4 000? I honestly do not have a clue what a good Mark 4 is worth.
Very nice car 👍👍 boys
Thats bringing back when I was a kid my brother had a frew of them i agree with the engine 👍
The 49 dislikers must be Astra GTE 16v owners! Can’t wait for the build on this beauty.
I had Tornado Red 16v mk2 golf on an 87 plate
I wish to god I kept that car 👌
When I was a lad in 1988 driving around in my chocolate brown Morris Marina THAT RS Turbo was my dream car! A guy at work had one and he was also nailing the works secretary! Man that guy had it all!
Rob “ tyre only looked flat at the bottom” brilliant mate, made me laugh that
I used to be a Police Officer in Southend on Sea. These cars and to a lessor degree, the XR3i's were a car I used to look out for and would inevitably have a result on stopping one. People would arrive in droves for what they called the 'Southend Cruise' in the late 80's early 90's. To be fair, there were the odd well presented cars that turned up. However, many more people arrived just to blat up and down the seafront in any old car. As a result of this, there were many accidents and a few fatalities.
I used to take a run along the seafront about 2230hrs, taking the index numbers of all interesting cars and go back to the station to do a series of PNC checks. By interesting, I mean those that had a DVLA notification on them such as V23 issued. This showed the vehicle had been a total insurance loss at some time. Therefore worth a stop. Some were in order and had been put back on the road. However, on many occasions, I found the pot of gold. Not for the driver though. The car had been rung. The odd one was just on false plates, but several were quite good ringers with well made changes to the VIN numbers.
It was good to find an easily identifiable original car, as it meant that someone got their pride and joy back. However, it never ceased to amaze me that many people bought a car without actually going to the registered address, meeting the seller in the street. It still goes on.
What a find, will be an absolute gem when it’s finished.
What like the cossie??? Not going to be getting my hopes up for this sadly, but it would be great to watch it brought back to life.
Have you seen the channel “the late Brake show” where they come across a 1982 barn find Rover SD1 V8 Vitesse? It’s been in this bloke garage since the late 90s under sheets and totally protected from the elements. It’s a 1982 model and once the get it out and clean her up, she looks like a brand new SD1. Stunning car and the interior is absolutely immaculate. I recommend you go and watch it👍
It's so nice to see a classic Ford getting done up well done lads
BACK TO THE 80s !!!
Wow what a find, fast Ford!!! Love to see this restored and back on the road!!
You 2 have surpassed yourselfs with this absolute gem of a find .
Takes me back to my misspent past .
This is exactly why this channel is the best .
A massive congratulations to Rob and Chris !
Jesus Rob,i had 2 mk2 RS Turbos, both Mercury grey both 1988/F reg i spent money on them with genuine ford tuning parts and suspension....They were so much fun to drive, mine were running 185 bhp and honestly were as quick as a standard cosworth up to 80 mph. That car if standard is worth good money, its worth spending time and money on it.Just love this channel it really is the best on youtube.
my favourite ford of all time , couldn't afford one but had a 1984 xr3i with the RS1600 wheels and body kit , good old days . nice video boys
This video just flew by, excellent. The car brings back memories to all of us from the 70s and 80s. We all know you will bring back to life this Escort. Take care.
I ordered one of these in 1987, but my mum died suddenly, so I found myself with a mortgage.
Promise me that you will get this vehicle back on the road spick and span. I love it!!!
Just love this! Please end it with a proper road test, for us getting on a bit people! Who Just miss this stuff!
I'm with you all the way.
Haven't watched this yet, saving it until the kids are in bed but hands down this is my favourite all time car
A Golf, an RS Turbo. Now only an Opel/vauxhall Manta and all my dream cars from my childhood have gone through the garage. Keep up the good work and I will follow you.
Sierra Cosworth, Range Rover, Golf GTI, Escort RS Turbo - you guys are living the dream!! Looking forward to this one!
Thinking that Sarah needs to return and give this a gentle hand wash
Wow what an amazing car, you need to take that carbon fibre film of the bonnet, will look so much better in white 😃
Mk1 golf now this. Two real cars! I did notice the locks have been smoothed. Let’s hope no other dodgy bodywork has been done. Great work guys!!!!
Bloody brave letting Rob have control of the winch!
Rob you gotta keep that O C D under control 😁, can’t spend your life wanting to wash cars within 2 minutes of seeing them 😂 it’s not normal 😉. Truly a real barn find and an exciting project, great find 👍🏻.
To be honest, if I had a car such as this sitting around rotting, I'd want to sell it to Rob & Chris to see it fixed up on video.
I bought one of these, the last of the run of the rs turbo escort as salvage was only a few weeks old was total fire damage and fitted the engine and running gear into a mini project in 1990.Brings back good memories.
I owned a Ford Escort RS Cosworth.... Absolutely loved it. Broke my heart when I sold it xx
A classic Ford, views will blow on this just like the Sierra cosworth!
OK Rob after my negative comments regarding your last vid, here is are some positive comments. Great find, agree on the wheels need to go back to original.
The other engine performance pieces could be kept. The black Samco hoses are more durable than ford rubber ones and don't detract from the aesthetics. Agree the rocker cover needs to go back to silver.
Looking forward to progress on this and the Karman Golf !
I agree don’t remove the performance mods as they are a plus and leave it as is apart from the rocker cover
This channel never fails first a cosworth now a rs turbo living the dream you and Chris to have owned such lovely cars 👌
Iconic Ford motor! My best friend has had Escort RS’s since the Mk1. Remember when he got his new Escort RS Turbo in 1988, we went out for a drive round the Lake District, where he lived. Awesome 😎 he keeps his cars as new. I got a drive about a year later, still remember that experience today. Salivating fro the videos of you bringing this car back to original condition. Could be one for your personal fleet Rob 👍😎🇬🇧
Now this build is going to be a good one, high praise when it’s coming from a VW enthusiast!
Having been an ex Autoglass fitter many years ago, I used to use the nozzle from a tube of sealant to help fit the cord to fit these sort of windscreens. Simply feed one end through the nozzle, and away you go. Saves a lot of faffing about, trying to get the cord into the groove. Hope this helps for any future jobs?
Nice one guys. You’ve inspired me to get my 1989 Citroën BX Gti 16 Valve out of the council lockup. Been parked up for three years now due to being Dad’s carer.
Do it! They are proper rare now
Cracking car the BX 👌
Now the yard is looking more like a 90s cruise scene! White escort and a white golf cabriolet! Cannot wait to see this series and it finished!
Well done rob -chris nice car .be nice to see when its done .happy days
Rob get a pair of ellesse tennis shorts and a sergio polo for your first drive in it 😁
Very lucky dudes I would say
It is a beauty and I know you are going to make it fantastic
Can’t wait to see it come back to life again 👍👍👍
Rob ,Chris you need to put a video out daily for this one please👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wot a car love chased me mrs out the living room so I could hear everything well done boys love it 😀
Lol
So glad I recently discovered Salvage Rebuilds great content, honest, interesting no b@llsh!t or egos that you find on other sites. Two sound, genuine fellas could easily go for a pint with. Keep up the great work lads.
Thank you very much for your kind comment and welcome to the channel 👍
What a great find that was guy's, I am sure you are going to both enjoy making this series of videos on this car.
We can see your enthusiasm to get started on this one, look forward to what's next.
great find. I had a 1990 H reg all red one back in the early 90s. unfortunately, the car insurance went through the roof because a lot of them were getting stolen.😢
"I'd love to give this a wash"... Steady ladies, Rob wants to get his foam cannon out again !!!
I had a series 1 but my alloys were all silver. Used to go to all the RS Owners club meets back in the day. Never seen a series 1 with white inserts though.
I had all of mine done and everyone I knew had it done
This is going to be one of the best ones yet! Can't wait to here that engine go, and see it back on the road where it truly belongs. Congratulations Rob and Chris on an epic purchase!
Absolute belter Rob & Chris. This will be an epic build. Always wanted a series 2 as I had a series 1 B Reg back in the day. We DEFO need Sarah back on for its first wash boys 🙏🏻🙏🏻😂😂👍🏻👍🏻🏴🏴
I can see the end it’s when Rob says he’s given Chris 10k and it’s going home 😂
Working class supercar.
I'm only 33 years old now but I had 1 of these when I was a teenager and a fiesta rs turbo watching this video is bringing tears to my eyes especially now I now I should of kept hold of them with there value 😭😭😭😭 and this I would say by using during my times shows the inflation over the years
Used to own a Mk1 1300E. So easy to tune. My Essex boy racer days tearing around Basildon.
Rob, when the car is washed can Chris wear that strappy white top and the wig again?
I use to have one then woke up one morning and did not have one anymore
To me this is a great example of why this channel is one of the best. Local people reaching out to Rob and Chris because no doubt they’ll enjoy watching it be restored on video like the rest of us. Great car, great channel, great people. Looking forward to this series. 😃
Nice find glad the guy reached out to you first so we can watch it been restored. Can’t wait to see the next one. Great work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
My dad's favourite car that rob..he sold he's 2 rs16i about 10 years ago.. he said it's the worst thing he's ever done..
If it was a series one I’d be excited
Me to mate 👍
Stunning car, what a find. Its now in the best hands, well done guys 👍👍👍👌
What is amazing is that the year this car was brand new Phil Collins In The Air Tonight was in the charts, the average house price in Britain was £60K, Luton Town FC beat Arsenal at Wembley, Paul Gascoigne was 21 years old, world famous singer Adele was born and the Ford Escort was Britain's best-selling car for the sixth year running! Something magical about having that in your workshop! Love it!
Love to no what you lads paid on this bad boy.And you need to get a 205gti on here lol
Lucky break for the old Escrot, better under Salvage Rebuilds wing than sitting in the shed......crack on lads, be a belter when it's done!
Can't wait to see what you do with the RS we all know you will do a proper job and restore it😃 originality is key as you said Rob👍
Old school cool! I remember buying a sapphire cossie for £5500 from a sergeant major who rallied for the army when I was Germany back in the 90’s. (All the windows had a different reg, make of that what you will lol) One of these was in his garage with a piston through the block. Brought back such great memories, this is going to be a bloody brilliant build!
I thought I recognised the reg. I was friends with Nick the original owner at school, I only see him couple of weeks ago in town.
Did his parents own the shop ? 👍
@@sruk yes they did, Nick solded up about 10 years ago.
Rob: “nettles”
Chris: “ne’r mind”
Me “lol”
lol "u re tough rob" - a chris classic
My god, I was 15 in 88 and those RS escorts were unbelievable..
Jaggy nettles , loved Chris' reaction , never mind 😂😂😂
It's funny how the tires are only flat on the bottom....never quite understood that LOL!!
The weight of the car
Think it might be something to do with that gravity thing 🤷 not sure though 👍😂
I was hoping it was going to be an Austin Montego Mayfair estate the way you built it up. Disappointed.🤣
Defo looking forward to this one as I've always wanted an RS but as you day they're going up in value and getting more rare by the day, please do this one the justice it deserves
I had a s2 rs turbo back in 2009 unfortunately it ended up being a parts car as the shell was rotting away but had so much fun in her but I got pics and this video just brought back memories of my old rs these cars now are so hard to come by
Rob - "Shouldn't have worn shorts, stinging nettles"
Chris - "ah, never mind"
Not going to lie a little bit of wee excaped🤣🤣
Couldn’t care about the stinging nettles with the s2 there lol
Are you changing the Timing Belt before you try to start it ?
Absolutely
I think they used be recommended at 36,000 miles or the equivalent years.
What a superb find! Nearly bought a red one in 1991 and ended up buying the first of two Lancia Delta HF Turbos. Look forward to following the build on this.
And what a cracking garage space they had.
Fantastic find love all those old escorts, but rs turbo wow, Robs so chuffed😄 can't wait to see you guys get to work on this.
Jammy git 😁😁
When the women come out I was thinking I hope she don’t say what you doing with my car .
That’s amazingly straight for an old Ford. I’ve been grinning all the way through this video, one of my favourite cars
This one is a watcher, remember them in the day.love the condition for its year ,and can't wait to see your process and results.magic.🤗
Rob please please get this one finished, don’t do what you did to the cosworth and flip it we need to see this from start to finish! Good find btw,and good luck.
My thoughts…👍
Is the reason you took Chris with you because you can’t be trusted loading a car on your own now 😂
Poor Rob, he'll never live that down.
Savage
Slight difference, RS TURBO versus £100 challenge😂 just lucky it was the £100 car. Sure Rob can take it, if it's not the winch it's his trainers or too much waffle lol
🤦🏻♂️ok ok lol
“My era, my kind of car and I absolutely love it.”
Superb find, boys. Can’t wait to see this rough diamond polish up.
so excited to see this coming along / restored guys , what an oppurtunity rob/chris , thankyou for buying it 😍😍
Are you revealing what you paid for it, compared to the £3k+ that it was bought for in 97 ? 🤞🏼 😁
Fantastic barn find, looking forward to the next video
Don't you dare sell this until it's absolutely perfect!
Ford took the worst engine in the world, attached it to the worst gearbox in the world, mounted them on the worst bodyshell in the world, and then mounted the bodyshell on the worst suspension in the world.
God help you! These cars were an absolute abortion when new, and they rapidly got a whole lot worse. Their half life was 6 months, so they are now as rare as hen's teeth.
Ford brought out the rs turbo (rally) challenge with a subtantial prize for the winner at the end of the year. They never had to pay out. No competitor ever finished a rally.
People love em tho. I do too. Great fun to drive.
These are the sort of thing that I like to see at a show for the nostalgia, but then thankfully someone else takes it home with them. I would never go back to the days when I had things like this.
The prices they are going for is amazing to someone who worked on them when they were current, The engineering and quality was of the lowest possible they could get away with.
No different to Fraud anywhere else in the world, experts at building rubbish.
@@-DC- I paid £850 for an absolutely beaten up series 1 in about '96, and I was unhappy with it at that. God knows how you could enjoy it at £30k+ ! Should come with a free welder, spare set of engine mounts and 15 extra cylinder heads
Please, lose that "carbon fibre" bonnet.
It’s only a wrap it should pull off ok 👍
Great, that's the main cosmetic thing spoiling the car. I agree that under the bonnet looks too gaudy by far, but you can't see all that with the bonnet down. It's great that the interior looks unspoiled, I'd say good interior parts are the hardest to get.
Wow what a find ,lovely old hot hatch Ford ,can’t wait to see its journey and what you’re plans are for it a very straight car for one of these 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Your grin and enthusiasm is highly infectious Rob. I was living in Essex when this car came to market, and it certainly brings back memories. Iconic car. Look forward to watching its transformation. Nice one guys.
thats no barn find. its in a garage with some boxes on the bonnet! theres plenty of series 2s about with no engine mods etc....i`d swerve that shitter
This chanel is adddictive - and I've never owned a car, and probably won't. Love your work and banter.
What a lovely car, very excited to see this on the channel!
What an amazing blast down memory lane.... can't wait see this sorted
Wow brought back happy and fond memories watching this video. You have both pulled out all the stops on this video and what a mega find. I certainly be glued to the channel to see how this project will pan out .
Looks incredibly straight! I learnt to drive and passed my test in a white XR3i from the same period. Looking forward to seeing progress on this.
great video boys, look forward to hearing it run.
I cant see you selling this one. Rob this is going to be your car. The enthusiasm and always wanting to restore one on the chanel!
Enjoy.
Great find guys it's got the bones for a great build. On how many left UK shows 1988 Escort RS Turbo 85 are licenced and 692 on SORN.
I had the later series in the 90's - bright Red and fast for its day, once it had been breathed on! Don't forget to change the valve stem oil seals so you don't get the blue puff of oil smoke on start up! Lovely car, looking forwards to seeing it run!
Your going to hit 200k Subscribers with this Rob I absolutely love this Channel 👍
Wow, what a find! I remember XR3i's and RS Turbos and this one will look amazing once you two are done with it. Can't wait to see the finished article!
