  • Yeo Lake Homestead is located in the Yeo Lake Nature Reserve which is in the Great Victoria Desert of Western Australia. The homestead is approx 200km north of Laverton and you can get there a couple of ways but both ways are consdered remote travelling. (i) travel along the White Cliffs/Yamarna Rd until Anne Beadell Hwy or (ii) take the Great Central Rd and turn onto Point Sunday Rd and then Anne Beadell Hwy.
Yeo Homestead is only about 60 odd years old and was deserted when farming in the region wasn't successful. Yeo Homestead has since been restored. It's a little 2 room "shack" rather than a "homestead" and serves as a spot to camp for free when travelling out this way. There is a water tank, a well - be careful of snakes and an outdoor shower. There is a toilet about 20mts from the homestead but no other facilities. When we were there the toilet was "use at your own risk" i.e. not in good condition. The Yeo Lake Nature Reserve is an important wetland system and home to many flora and fauna, some of which are endangered. This said, you may notice mining is allowed in / very near to the reserve.
From Yeo Homestead, if heading north east you will come across the Yeo salt lake system, the road crosses the lake so be careful, especially after rains. For those who enjoy the outback, the scenery is spectacular along here.
Laverton, the Western part of the Great Victoria Desert and Yeo Lake Nature Reserve are on the lands of the Wongatha people.
