Honestly for me,as a Chinese normal young people, I haven't went the underground shops like these for a long time. If we really want to buy something fake , we prefer to buy it on line. It will cost less and you don’t need to bargain for a longtime. But I seldom do it these days,because most of the Chinese goods have much better qualities than before, I will prefer to choose a real Chinese one than a fake foreign expensive brand. But when I was a middle school student, maybe around 15 years before, we usually bought cheap CDs here, just around 10 yuan to get your favorite singer’s songs, they costed around 5 to 10 times more expensive at that time. By the way, you are really good at bargain!

quite impressed by jacks bargaining skills, but still overpaid quite a bit for some items... the gorilla pod is max 50rmb and that shirt at the end is max 80-100rmb.

This is not a black marker by Western or Chinese standards; it's just a normal shopping district where you can buy merchandise at steep discounts.
Hidden doors? Hiding from the police? Sounds like a black market to me, what they sell behind the close doors is illegal.

@@JackTorr It is indeed a black market (being cracked down all the time). But man! They charged you double and sometimes 3 to 4 times the real price even after your bargaining... for all the items you bought. Next time, keep bargaining and tell them ¨but it is much cheaper buying in Taobao¨... They will give up quicker and ask the real price if they know you know, haha. I live in Shanghai (never buy there because it is a tourist trap). At least you got some goodies. 😁👍

Why do foreigners like to go to that market... As a Chinese, I tell you that foreigners should not go and will be charged high prices.. Go to some places with clearly marked prices

If the seller brings you back, they still make a profit. These seller buy these products on TB and other online stores. So, they are like the middleman.
Never tell them where you are from. Once you do, they are calculating the exchange rate. Bad move. When they ask me, l say, lm from China.
For ABC/CBC that can speak Chinese, they can't target us, because we know they get their stuff from TB. When we go to these markets, l show them the same item cost on TB. They absolutely hate it and kicked us out.

I was very surprised to meet a young couple in Thailand and they were from US. They were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then going to Cambodia and Vietnam before going back to US.
I asked them since they are so near to China why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I was surprised of what they told me. They said according to all their media reports in US. They were advice not to travel to China as China is not a safe country to travel. Dirty, polluted, robbery is common even in broad daylight and chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere foreign visitors go. Visitors can be detained for no reason. All these is what they know about China from their media reports.
I always say that western media/governments accuse China of propaganda, while the truth is that they excel at brainwashing their people.
Their media and politician dont want them to see the real China, otherwise they wouldnt be able to fool them anymore. China actually is the opposite. Clean, friendly people, safe, much safer .

Local citizens seldom go there ( black market ) all the prices was markup for foreigners from 700 yuan bargain until 140 yuan . Honestly if you are new in China you will be chop off your head .. be smart , even bargain unsuccessful just walk away ... 👍👍💖👍👍👏👍
