Not only do I love seeing these products come to life, I love watching the process of watching these products come to life. Thanks for taking us along for the ride, Matt.
Cool stuff! ps: Keep up the good work pal, my cousin and I are just binge watching your videos :D your content is really entertaining to watch. The way you present information is clear and interesting, infact I've also been watching you to learn from you as a content creator myself.
That's gotta be the coolest thing in the world. To be holding a physical version of a thing you helped make in something that you love that thousands of people can't wait for. Rock on.
The dragons look awesome. If my opinion is worth anything, action poses would be great! Looking forward to seeing their final art, and eventually the finished product.
Thank you for your enthusiastic transparency and clear explanations! That dragon is really exciting. I am afraid I am more of a mass production than boutique consumer and those awesome dragons are not in the budget. However, I am very excited about the book. My players cleared out most of “The Broken Tower” over the weekend and now they are thinking about how to transform it into a base. Fortunately I can string out them acquiring enough wealth so maybe the book will be in hand when they want to start ruling from the tower. As always, thank you for leading this community Matt!
Whatever stream you do Matt, you should push for them to use the Stronghold rules in it...might help demo the way to use the rules for proud new book owners/future potential buyers!
Aaron Jolliffe i guess it depends on if the same players are in the upcoming stream. I'd also say the book is coming about because of how many people offered their firstborn for a chance to use those rules lol
I hope that the minis will be produced with either resin or grey plastic. I’m not 100% comfortable with 3D printed minis just yet, as they can have those build level lines on them.
The dragons becoming crystal as they age is awesome. I love the idea Matt. Maybe these crystal dragons eventually have all crystal scales, claws, teeth, and bones - articulated so they can move of course (slowly because of the weight? So no natural flight?) - the rest being flesh and blood. Would they be vulnerable to earthquake/earth moving Magic’s. Would they have a psionic defense to this? Perhaps the direction of their psionic abilities derive from protecting themselves from earth moving magic? Thanks for opening your creative process to us for commentary. Love your work!
The 5e spell, Shatter, makes creatures composed of crystal or similar roll their saves with disadvantage. I think there is another anti-crystal spell, but I cannot recall it.
The dragons look awesome! An idea popped into my head while you were talking about them maybe not becoming more gemstone encrusted: What if there was a tragic element to it? Like they still become more gemstone encrusted as they get older, but there's a point of diminishing returns where it starts to limit their mobility or make them sickly until ultimately they start to turn into statues. There could be a gemstone dragon "graveyard" filled with these statues, or maybe they migrate to secluded areas to spend their final years before succumbing to the crystallization. Could be a lot of room for some cool stories!
In one of the campaigns I'm playing in, My dragon born monk is part of an entire village of Metalic Dragon born whose eldest elder is actually a silver dragon. No one from the village has ever seen him though, He's almost a myth to the people. So I love the idea of dragonborn PC's working with their respective dragon types.
The work put in this campaign is SO TREMENDOUSLY GOOD. Thank you Matt and Team, you all doing a fantastic job. Im so so happy to finally get to back the project :DDD
Finally got round to chucking my tuppence into the kickstarter. Stream supporter with all the loot. Amazing achievement on how successful the campaign has been and I wish you luck with producing the final product. If the quality of your UA-cam is anything to go by I'm sure you and the team will smash it. P. S. Some day I might support the channel even more and buy your novels but too much on my reading list as is.
Matt, as someone whose first non pre-gen D&D character was a Sapphire Dragon using the Council of Wyrms module, I am very excited for the gem dragons and minis. However, you bring up an important point in the video: when was the last time anyone ever fought a metallic dragon? I will also hypothesize that minis are at their most useful when used in combat (when you pull out minis and/or battlemaps...you know what the players generally do next!). Despite traditional alignments, here's to hoping you and the team can generate some compelling background and lore that might find the characters in combat situations with these miniatures. Whether as enemies, allies, or just a test of worthiness for the information they are protecting. I would hate for all these minis to end up in a box or a shelf and never hit the game table! Let us know if you need any help/ideas.
I'm really excited to see some example stat blocks for the Ruby Dragon and the Ancient Sapphire Dragon. Hopefully those are previewed soon, I'd back the kickstarter just for that honestly.
In seriousness, the concept art for the dragons are really cool and, if the 3D prototype is an indication, there's a WHOLE lot of awesome going down with those. Very happy to be a part of this and EXCEPTIONALLY pleased with the transparency and communications.
Woah, that model is awesome! I wish I could get a hold of it because I serously wanna show people and giving them a real thing would be awesome. Keep up the good work dude!
Those dragons are so cool. I can imagine this weird back tentacle manipulating various odds and ends in its lair while conversing with the PC's a la Dr Octopus.
That dragon mini actually looks incredible *already*. I was thinking that the prices were insanely high, but for all the art and the size of them... I mean they're still way out of budget for me, but I'm seeing that it's somewhat reasonable :) And I'm excited for the book obviously. I'm thinking hm, hm, about the physical copy over my PDF. But I'm a (very nearly) broke student, so we'll see. Once again, congrats to you Matt. Way to go :)
Smart. Very smart. I've got one of those KS designations - Superbacker - and I've only ever seen a few first-time Kickstarters with solid goals who stuck to their guns and as a result they delivered a quality product on time or very close to it. It's far too easy to get caught up in the excitement and start adding/offering far more than you'd planned or can handle. You're doing right by your backers. ;-) ... wish I could back (did, and then cancelled) but my wife and I just bought a house, so it's a no go with Kickstarters for awhile.
I like the catfish chins. I like the idea the dragons remaining somewhat fleshy...it gives them a more alien feel when combined with the head shapes, and especially with the tentawings
I'm really looking forward for the stream of your campaign as you sound like a solid example of one way to do it right. Because I lack stuff. My descriptions are non-existent. Really non-existent.
Hi Matt. This is all looking great! I have recently discovered your channel and I am enjoy your ‘running the game’ series. I notice you mention novels that inspire your campaigns. Have you considered doing a “recommended fantasy novels” video? I have read a lot of the modern popular series and interested in finding more too read!
It's pretty funny that some of the people are mentioning that the sapphire dragon appears to look alien like. I love the concept art for it and it also happens to remind me of the big beasty, the Moorwen, in the movie Outlander. In the movie Jim Caviezel stars as Kainan, a soldier of sorts from a very technological planet. During his travel in a ship, the Moorwen unknown to be onboard wreaks havoc and causes the ship to crash on the planet....EARTH! He basically teams up with a bunch of vikings to take on the monster. I'd really suggest you take a watch if you get the time Matt, if you haven't already seen it. Anyway, Kickstarter looks super awesome and I can't wait for it. Thank you for the update videos and keeping us informed!
Please do make them psionic dragons. The crystal flavor goes perfectly and I love the idea of psionic-flight dragons with those little vestigial wings!
I’d love the idea of the older the dragon the less scales you get and the more gemstones (or whatever you wanna call them) you get from harvesting the dead dragons corpse
A neat way to think about it might be like Dalmations. Dalmations are born all white, they get their spots as they get older. So a metallic dragon, or indeed a gemstone dragon might be born with much more lizard, or skin like, hide but become more hardened as they get older. Who knows, maybe the bigger gems are kind of like dragon warts. But cause they are dragons they're pretty and useful instead of ugly and gross.
That prototype and the art look fantastic. I can't wait to incorporate these dragons into my campaign! Also, I feel that the gemstone dragons should be more psionic in nature, rather than arcane. For one, the psionic dragon concept jumps out at me way more and makes them feel more unique compared to chromatics and metallics.
I'm totally having these Dragons be like ancient Wizard type beasts. Intelligent beyond even a Mind Flayers comprehension. Also how cool would it be to see these guys show up in Critical Role?
It is amazing how far you guys have come along on this project! Good job to you and your friends Colville! I love the minis and they look so cool. Question about the Topaz Dragon does it have four legs and two arms?
That mini looks SICK. Amazing details, really want to see a pro paint one up all fancy like. I also like that its not on a base, quite a few minis I've seen have some kind of base that kinda ruins the look for me.
I know you said this was the last update, but since I'm thinking of buying more dragon minis from the add-on menu, I have a question about how similar each species is to the other. Basically, I was assuming that I could get five adult minis, and then paint them gold, red, blue, green, and purple to have one of each species. But this wouldn't work if some species have kept their wings instead of evolving tentacles.
Matt, maybe as they age, the gems naturally just get larger and therfore more valuable and magically/psionically chargable. They get bigger, gems get bigger and some smaller more abundant in the scales while younglings have just less developed gems.
Having watched The Ancient Magus Bride or w/e it's called, I think it would be cool if their death is when they become fully crusted with crystals. Could be used as focuses in magic possibly or collected to sell as a black market power enhancer/magic drug?
It looks like your artist has seen the Droconomicon before. There's a bit of a resemblance to the landwyrms in the flightless dragons. they look amazing either way
lol, it's likely that it has more to do with mythology of dragons, since that's where they came from to start with, I was just kind of noticing the similarities. I actually like the ruby dragon way more than any of the landwyrms from the Draconomicon
The dragons look amazing and the stronghold rules sound amazing. I'll defenetly gonna try them out as soon as i get the book. Would it be possible to add a plage to get the 3d print files of the dragons?
I think the "wings" should be made separate and then slotted into place. If that happen, I think some work on the area around where they will be slotted would be needed.
I can't wait for your D&D stream to start! I'm thoroughly enjoying Critical Role, but I think your DMing will be fantastic! For some reason I imagine you and your players being more tactics-minded, as well as generally more free-roam (murder-hobo ;) ) oriented, which would be superbly entertaining to me.
I am... in a weird way, both incredibly sorry and envious that I couldn't afford to pledge more than what I did :( I wished I could help a little bit more because I just realized that, yeah, I really, really like the more fantastical and old style vibe you as a DM and a creator put in your work. I mean, having an epic quest is fun, but creating a stronghold and having NPC that show up to you give a sense of realism and immersion that otherwise you can't get. And yeah, I also wished I could afford one of those minis. I wouldn't even play with temp probably, but I really like painting them (not quite sure how good I am at it though).
if you whant dragons with crystals/gems sticking out of them you should have a look at the Shatterer from Guild Wars 2. maybe that gets you some inspiration for the "back" of the dragon ;-)
Man. I just got the book. It's beautiful, and I'm falling love with the gemstone dragons. I missed out big on not backing at a higher level. Is there any plan to make gemstone dragon minis available with future purchase or along with the kingdoms and warfare kickstarter?
if the metallic dragons are good, the chromatic dragons are evil, and the gemstone dragons are neutral, how is the emerald dragon neutral evil? wouldn't that be a chromatic alignment?
Someone can correct if I'm wrong, but my read on that distinction is that a neutral EVIL being is going to advance the cause of evil without being overly concerned with the balance of power between Order and Chaos; it is evil, without placing any particular value in either of those things. As such, it is willing to support whichever or whomever advances its goals without concern for chaos or law. A NEUTRAL evil being, however, is most interested in preserving the balance of Order and Chaos, but likely is also willing to do abhorrent things to achieve its goal, and perhaps even relishes in some of the "dirty work" required. Also, it might lean towards strategies that result in death and misery and collateral damage when deciding how precisely to preserve that balance.
Not only do I love seeing these products come to life, I love watching the process of watching these products come to life. Thanks for taking us along for the ride, Matt.
I love how alien the sapphire dragon looks.
Good luck Matt you're a river to your people and inspired me to do the same.
I'm so hyped for these dragons that I already introduced the ruby dragon as a plot hook for my 1 on 1 campaign
I know right? I'm already thinking about how I can implement them into my game.
I'm right their with you
Cool stuff! ps: Keep up the good work pal, my cousin and I are just binge watching your videos :D your content is really entertaining to watch. The way you present information is clear and interesting, infact I've also been watching you to learn from you as a content creator myself.
The Metatron's Comment has gone unnoticed? I thought that you have a lot of common fans.
I love watching how giddy you get with each update Matt. Your excitement gets me more excited for the book.
That's gotta be the coolest thing in the world. To be holding a physical version of a thing you helped make in something that you love that thousands of people can't wait for. Rock on.
I might make these crystal dragons the dragons of the Underdark or something!
Alexander Wood what an awesome idea!!!
I don't have the $$ for the full set of 5, but boy is it tempting!
but, but, but, deep dragons and shadow dragons are rocking the socks off of the underdark already x
The dragons look awesome. If my opinion is worth anything, action poses would be great! Looking forward to seeing their final art, and eventually the finished product.
The dragon's back should definitely have scales, but more hex shaped like the gems or the Giants Causeway.
Thank you for your enthusiastic transparency and clear explanations! That dragon is really exciting. I hope that the minis will be produced with either resin or grey plastic. I’m not 100% comfortable with 3D printed minis just yet, as they can have those build level lines on them.
Those dragons are FANTASTIC. I love the concepts and the execution. Well done!.... I may need to add that wyrmling to my pledge...
Metallic dragons are metal incarnate! They just change taste over the course of their life from glam then epic and death metal at last! 🤘💀🤘
The dragons becoming crystal as they age is awesome. I love the idea Matt. The Emerald dragon looks really excited to be neutral evil.
"Yay! I'm gonna wreck some players!"
The dragons look awesome! An idea popped into my head while you were talking about them maybe not becoming more gemstone encrusted: What if there was a tragic element to it? Hey Matt, if there are crystal dragons are there crystal dragonborns?
Why not? That would be awesome to add those in!
babassoonist I want it
Yes. Hell, there might be a whole Flight of Good King Omund's Dragon Phalanx.
Matthew Colville is that what dragonborne wizards are in your setting?
In one of the campaigns I'm playing in, My dragon born monk is part of an entire village of Metalic Dragon born whose eldest elder is actually a silver dragon. No one from the village has ever seen him though, He's almost a myth to the people. So I love the idea of dragonborn PC's working with their respective dragon types.
It's been so cool to see this go from drawing to 3D to printed sculpt. Thanks for sharing the process with us.
Your transparency during this kickstarter reminds me of my other favorite crowd-sourced project, Star Citizen. It's refreshing and encouraging.
very excited for the work. thanks Matt, for sharing the production!
The work put in this campaign is SO TREMENDOUSLY GOOD. Thank you Matt and Team, you all doing a fantastic job. Im so so happy to finally get to back the project :DDD

I told my self I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a mini but these dragons ate making it really hard not to spend money on them.
Woah, that model is awesome! I wish I could get a hold of it because I serously wanna show people and giving them a real thing would be awesome. Keep up the good work dude!
Gawd almighty, these dragons are flippin' sweet. You've got some wonderful talent behind this, but you know that! :D
So cool to see you this happy Matt. Keep rocking on man!
SUPER HYPE. these things are so amazing! props to the modeler/artist!
I love how excited this has made not only you, but the community.
Those dragons are so cool! I can't wait to see the finish product
Those dragons are so cool. I can imagine this weird back tentacle manipulating various odds and ends in its lair while conversing with the PC's a la Dr Octopus.
That CUUUUTE Wormling is probably Matt making a character for his cat!
Vid quality seams amazing today.

Can’t wait for the add-on shop to go up so I can choose me some dragons!
Smart. Very smart. I like the catfish chins. I like the idea the dragons remaining somewhat fleshy...it gives them a more alien feel when combined with the head shapes, and especially with the tentawings
In my head I imagine the crystal dragons turning to solid crystal, when they die.
That could be used for some neat storytelling I think!
The topaz wyrmling looks adorable
Oh wow imagine what a crystal dragon that could change form would look like in different forms
As far as I'm concerned all of these dragons are cool and very friend shaped.
Please do make them psionic dragons. The crystal flavor goes perfectly and I love the idea of psionic-flight dragons with those little vestigial wings!
I absolutely love the topaz wyrmling model.... might have to sign up for a mini after all!
This is looking great! Thinking about introducing them in my campaign!
Man, that really makes me want to become a colvillain. Those dragons look dope.
I’d love the idea of the older the dragon the less scales you get and the more gemstones (or whatever you wanna call them) you get from harvesting the dead dragons corpse
Those look sick. I can't wait to get them and get them into my game! I'm excited for myself, I'm excited for you, I'M EXCITED.
"Without further ado," proceeds to ado
haha love you matt
Definitely getting the Evolve design vibes off the dragons!
Project Covillefield? The minis are looking really good.
Love you and your work, please never stop creating even if you transend youtube please never stop
I'm sooo ready for the warfare video! It'll fit right into my campaign.
These are freakishly gorgeous.
i really like the idea of dragons made entirely out of crystal, i hope it doesnt get dropped!
I'm totally having these Dragons be like ancient Wizard type beasts. Intelligent beyond even a Mind Flayers comprehension. Also how cool would it be to see these guys show up in Critical Role?
OMG I had my video speed set to 1.5 from watching streams!!
Prototype mini looks AWESOME!
What if when the dragons die they turn into that gem?
Just waiting to see that Amethyst Dragon! I can only afford one of the adults, so I'm hoping we can get a good look at them both before buying
There's a bit of a resemblance to the landwyrms in the flightless dragons. they look amazing either way
I think it's 940% likely the artist has never seen any art from D&D3. Or 4 or 5!
lol, it's likely that it has more to do with mythology of dragons, since that's where they came from to start with, I was just kind of noticing the similarities. I actually like the ruby dragon way more than any of the landwyrms from the Draconomicon
Oof, my wallet. Now I really want to up my pledge to include the dragons.
So many videos! I love it!
The dragons look amazing and the stronghold rules sound amazing. I'll defenetly gonna try them out as soon as i get the book. Would it be possible to add a plage to get the 3d print files of the dragons?
It must be providential that I grew up in Colville WA!
Matt! Cannot wait to hear about the campaign stream! :)
I think the "wings" should be made separate and then slotted into place. If that happen, I think some work on the area around where they will be slotted would be needed.
That's entirely up to the manufacturer.
Just a heads up. I think it would ship better in pieces.
I bet some people would love those prototypes. perhaps a prize for something? unless you just want them. that would be cool to
THEY LOOK SO GOODDD
Those dragons look sweet! :)
Love the art for these! Will the finalized art for the gemstone dragons be in the book?
From somewhere i got the notion that metallic dragons scales grow thicker and more metallic infused with age... maybe just my imagination.
I am... in a weird way, both incredibly sorry and envious that I couldn't afford to pledge more than what I did :( I wished I could help a little bit more because I just realized that, yeah, I really, really like the more fantastical and old style vibe you as a DM and a creator put in your work.
Man I really want this book. But I have to pace myself as I still don't have the DMG yet
if you whant dragons with crystals/gems sticking out of them you should have a look at the Shatterer from Guild Wars 2. maybe that gets you some inspiration for the "back" of the dragon ;-)
A full gem dragon might be a cool sentient magic item or material for crafting high level magic items.
Man. I just got the book. It's beautiful, and I'm falling love with the gemstone dragons. I missed out big on not backing at a higher level. Is there any plan to make gemstone dragon minis available with future purchase or along with the kingdoms and warfare kickstarter?
And Colvillain pledge secured
Holy crap! Thanks so much!
Already got the idea for a shopkeeper with the topaz dragon
Brits are like us Canadians, they're fine, we're fine, everyone is fine. You're good Matt. You do you, bud!
You're gonna get one big final push of backers. I know I have to.
brilliant content 10/10, you heard it here first.
if the metallic dragons are good, the chromatic dragons are evil, and the gemstone dragons are neutral, how is the emerald dragon neutral evil? wouldn't that be a chromatic alignment?
is it supposed to be chaotic neutral maybe?
It's the difference between a neutral EVIL dragon and a NEUTRAL evil dragon.
Matthew Colville, maybe I'm being dense, but I'm not sure how that distinction works in practice. Can you elaborate?
Overwhelming levels of neutrality.
