    Good info! I have a Beautyrest I purchased 15 yrs ago and it's an "extra extra firm" model, no pillowtop. I added my own 2" cool gel topper, and that combo is divine! I'm a side & stomach sleeper and the most firm coil mattress with no extra padding is wonderful as you don't get the typical sag from a pillowtop and you can add your own layer for cushioning & change it out as needed. My Beautyrest is still going strong, believe it or not.

      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Hi Dave. To avoid over-paying, getting recommendations on stores from friends is really helpful -- those stores depend on word of mouth. You can also compare the materials in the mattress you are considering to other mattresses online, and get a general idea of what something similar costs.
      We realize it's a generalization, but good-quality mattresses these days usually start in the $600 range, with most that we've reviewed right around $1,000 (queen size).

      Hi John. I can certainly empathize with your confusion and frustration. Have you tried taking the GoodBed Quiz yet? We created it for exactly this reason. It works by asking you all of the relevant questions to fully assess your requirements (including some factors that might actually be important to you but that you would not have otherwise thought to consider), and then using a proprietary matching algorithm to search across all brands and stores to find ones that match your unique needs and preferences.
      From there you can watch (or read) our reviews of those mattresses to make sure they really do meet your needs -- saving you a lot of time by eliminating models that aren't likely to suit your needs.
      If you haven't already done so, you can take that quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
      I hope that's helpful.
      If you have any remaining questions after this, don't hesitate to come back here and ask.

    Wow, you know more than the people selling the beds. It's such a tough choice. We bought a Beautyrest Black hybrid plush, and it felt great until around day 25 when our backs started hurting a lot. Now we have one more chance to pick a new one, and it is very difficult to choose with so many options. Do the pillow top models in this series hold up over time? I have heard of pillow tops breaking down, but I don't know if newer technology keeps that from happening.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Ryan. Very true -- it's a bewildering number of models for sure. As for pillowtop models, we do generally think that the cushioning materials break down quicker, but a lot of that depends on how soft they are initially, and of course the body weight and sleep habits of the sleepers.
      One option we really like for those that prefer a plush/soft feel, but are concerned about losing support is to buy a somewhat firmer mattress, then add a separate plush mattress topper. That way, you can easily and inexpensively replace just the topper when it becomes compressed or too soft.
      Hope that's helpful!

    • @RyanOlsen
      @RyanOlsen 3 роки тому

      @@goodbed Thank you for your reply. I ended up choosing the Beautyrest Black Hybrid X-Class Medium (same as the other one but medium feel). We did exactly as you suggested by buying toppers, after we bought our last mattress and found out it was way too hard (we had it for 11 years). This time I wanted to buy the mattress that would be great, and not have to rely on toppers (these beds are expensive, so they should be good on their own). So, what do you think of the choice I made? In your experience, does that model hold up and continue to be reliable/comfortable over time?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Hi Ryan. We don't do long term testing over multiple years on these models -- I don't know any reviewer that has space and time to do that. But we do look closely at the materials with an eye to red flags. We didn't notice any obvious ones that would make us think this collection would last more or less than average (in the 8-year range), but it depends a lot on your body type, mattress usage, and the initial softness of the bed. Be sure you have a solid foundation -- that goes a long way to extend the life of the mattress.

    • @RyanOlsen
      @RyanOlsen 3 роки тому

      @@goodbed Thank you for your honesty and help with this. It makes sense that you wouldn't personally have long term experience with durability, plus there are a lot of factors that could change things (one reason bed reviews are hard to go by). You saying there were no red flags raised is a good thing to know. We'll hope for the best. Keep up the good work, because these reviews are very helpful.

    We bought a King "BR World Class Euro Top" that we now need to replace

    we loved it. Any info for that? It looks to be about 14" deep.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Hi -- thanks for the comment. That's always a tricky question -- Beautyrest does not tend to do direct replacements (which is very frustrating for owners, I know). But even if they did, I can guarantee you that the mattress you love now would feel different from when you first purchased it. That's because all mattresses soften up over the years.
      If you're looking for something in a pillow top or euro top that doesn't have a lot of memory foam, I'd suggest having a look at the Beautyrest Silver or Beautyrest Harmony Lux collections. Both include those pillow/euro top options, come in a variety of softness levels, and do come in 13" to 14" mattress heights. All are hybrid mattresses, with pocketed coil spring units, and will have the traditional feel and bounce that you probably love about your current mattress.
      I hope that gives you a good starting point!

    I just ordered the BRS900 Medium Pillow Top. I managed to get it for only $499 (closeout sale)! Would you say that it is pretty comfortable? My fiancé is closer to 200 lb, where as I am just under 150, and we are both side sleepers. Can you also speak to the cooling sensation on the top cover compared to the BRS900-c? Edit: I did want to add that when I checked the customer reviews, the BRS900-c got lower scores overall than the BRS900. Thanks!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Wow -- that is a great price. Nice going! "Comfort" is a matter of personal preference. One person's "too soft" is another person's "too hard" so it's very subjective and just depends on what you like. I can tell you that "medium" is the firmness that most people tend to order, and the pillow top should give you some additional softness and cushioning depth on top.
      As for the "moisture wicking" cover on the "C" version, we just don't have a way to test that. Our position with most passive cooling features is that they might make a small difference, but it tends to be subtle. For those that have issues with sleeping hot, choosing a mattress with a coils support unit will give the best air flow -- and we think air flow is the key to feeling cooler.
      Enjoy your mattress -- you found a great deal!

I have had a total of 3 nights and am experiencing lower back pain in the morning after sleeping on it all night. My question is, is this normal for a new mattress in this model? Hi Matthew. Thanks for the question. There's definitely a break-in period for mattresses. Some say it can be up to 30 days, but in our experience it's about two weeks. If you aren't sleeping better after that, then it might not be the mattress for you.

      Good question. So we generally don't cover Costco models, but just looking at the specs online, the BR Silver is going to have a fair bit more comfort material than the PressureSmart. However, the PressureSmart will have a slightly higher coil density. Basically, we'd expect the BR Silver to feel a bit softer at the surface but have a very similar feel once you get down to the coils.

      Hi Leila -- Thanks for your question. I can't say I remember a crinkly sound on the Beautyrest Silver mattresses that we tested, so it's possible this could be related to a material or feature that is specific to the version that is sold at Costco.
      More generally, I have certainly experienced a crinkly sensation when lying on a mattress, so I definitely know exactly what you are talking about. It is not particularly common, so I would not characterize it as "normal" in that sense. However it is not necessarily "abnormal" in the sense of it being a defect either. Rather, it's just a characteristic that some (but not many) mattresses do have. TBH I'm not 100% sure what causes it though.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Marie. We get this question VERY often. But even if there were a way to tell exactly the name of the model you bought years ago (there isn't), I can guarantee you that the mattress you enjoy right now doesn't feel the same as it did when you first bought it. That's because all mattresses soften up over time -- it happens gradually, so your body just adapts. But if you took your mattress today and compared it directly to your brand new mattress back then, you'd be very surprised at how different they feel.
      In addition, Beautyrest has changed the materials in this collection several times over the years, so today's Silver collection is made differently than the same collection years ago.
      Rather, if you want to stick with the Beautyrest Silver collection, you can use our GoodBed quiz to figure out which one in the collection is closest to your needs and preferences today.

    Does this contain fiberglass?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 роки тому

      Hi. Thanks for the question. All mattresses are required to include a flame retardant. Many brands (and/or models within brands) use fiberglass for this. But keep in mind that it comes nowhere near your body, and is contained underneath the cover. The other major type of fiber used for flame retardance is silica dioxide.
      Unfortunately, since mattress makers are not required to disclose the content of their fire socks, it's really hard to find out whether they are using fiberglass, silica dioxide, or something else. So that best way to know for sure is to call the manufacturer. Also, be specific about the model -- some lower end/cheap mattress lines of a particular brand might use fiberglass while more expensive mattresses might use silica.
      I wish I knew the answer on this - manufacturers make it hard to know specifically what they use for their required flame retardant.

    Does this mattress use any fiberglass as a flame retardant component?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 роки тому

      Hi Alex.
      Mattresses are required by US law to have a fire retardant. Most use a fire sock -- basically a cover that's under the regular cover. It can be made of a number of fibers like wool that's a natural fire retardant, or they can go with the cheapest material -- fiberglass -- which can be an irritant if exposed to it for some people. Other manufacturers use chemical fire retardants applied to the foam or to a fabric. It really varies a lot. What's more, most manufacturers don't talk about the fire sock or whatever retardant they're using at all. Best thing to do is ask your retailer or contact Beautyrest directly. Here's their number: (877) 399-9397
      Hope that's helpful.

    I bought this mattress from JC Penney. The minute it was delivered I noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the mattress. It was so strong that it made me dizzy. I wanted to return the mattress but JC Penney doesn't take returns on mattresses. So, I'm stuck with this mattress stinking up my house for nearly 2 months now. I'll never buy a mattress from a store that doesn't allow returns again.

      Ugh -- that sounds awful. Most mattresses do have a 'new mattress smell' but it typically dissipates in a few days up to a couple of weeks -- especially for one like this that does not get compressed and vacuum-sealed for shipping.
      One solution we've heard of (but not tried) is to sprinkle dry baking soda on the bare mattress -- then leave it for a couple of days before vacuuming it up. Just like in your refrigerator, the baking soda is supposed to absorb odors.
      If you try this, will you please report back and let us know how well it worked?

      Ha, that's actually quite understandable Jerry! For people who have a sense of what they're looking for, our videos are a great way to understand the real features and characteristics of a product so you can determine whether it's right for you. But for people who aren't sure yet what they want or need, you would need to watch a lot of these to figure out which product is best for you. To save you the time of doing that, we created an in-depth quiz that walks you through all of the key considerations and then helps you hone in on a short list of options that best match your unique requirements. From there, you can watch or read our explanations of those products to choose which one seems the best for you, and confirm that it meets your most important criteria.
      If you haven't already taken the GoodBed Quiz, you can find it here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/

      I went to a mattress store here and they led me to the $5000 mattress first, but I thought are those $1000 mattress that bad?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 роки тому +1

      @@jerryRp90x There is certainly going to be a quality difference between mattresses at those price points. But perhaps even more importantly, the value you should get as you move up in price should be finding a mattress that has more of the fit, feel, and features that line up with your needs, preferences, and priorities.
      Think of it like an apartment. At a lower price, you can find an apartment that matches some of your criteria, but not all of them. As you go up in price, you can find options that match more of your criteria. And also like apartments, you will generally find the more expensive mattresses use higher quality materials and construction.
      I hope that's helpful.

    This mattress SUCKS. I got a firm with pillow top and has severely sinks in the middle since day one. It sinks low and you feel the coils. It feels like your sleeping on a box spring. Don’t waste your money.

      Ugh. Sorry it isn't working for you. We do these videos so that you can see what our tester looks like on them - particularly on the edge. At about the 3:00 minute mark, you can see our tester talking about the softness of that pillow-top model.
