In this video, we are breaking down Earth 42 and the Prowler Miles, as we find out towards the end of the movie, that Miles has in fact been sent to the wrong universe, due to the spider that had bitten him being originally from Earth 42. We will be pointing all the clues towards this twist coming in the plot, all of the number 42 instances that show up throughout and what this means for the characters going into Beyond The Spider-Verse. lots to go over so let's get into it!

Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul aka the guy who's getting as many Miles out of this movie as I can and this video we're breaking down Earth 42 from Spider-Man across the Spider-verse. The movie ends with a big twist and in it we realise that Miles has actually been taken to an earth unlike his own where things are slightly off.It's basically like that episode of Sliders where they think they've finally made it home but then one of them realises the gate doesn't creak like it used to so they leave cos it's just not the same.Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down what happened there and also all the clues that teased that there was a twist coming.Now this entire thing was set up all the way back in the first film which we pointed out in our into the spider-verse breakdown.-Hate hearing myself back I love how the film builds upon that as we know the main miles we follow would have likely have become the prowler had the spider not intervened.

this is insane... earth 1610 miles morales was supposed to become the next prowler and earth 42 miles j. morales was supposed to become that earth's version of spiderman....through no fault of their own..their fates got reversed...taking the lives of earth 1610's version of peter parker/spiderman and aaron davis/prowler/miles's uncle and earth 42's version of jefferson davis/miles's dad
I didn't even notice the building with the name "SAND MAN" on it. I love seeing new details in the movie every time I see these scenes.
That clip from Sliders used at the beginning made my stomach drop when that episode first aired.
The irony is that The Sliders DID make it home finally at episodes end. The reason the group assumed that they weren't on their earth, is because of the handyman not leaving well enough alone, and proactively fixed the squeaky Poarch door moments before they arrived. The next and final time Quinn meets his mother the planet is FUBAR. Revelations are revealed, and the final episode ends on a cliffhanger. Forget Quantum Leap, I want a season of new Sliders episodes lol.

So, my crazy theory is that Miles 42 is actually already a good guy. Prowler 42 fights against all the other villains but he does it on their level so he's not a symbol people can get behind. Like he's the lesser of 2 evil's kind of thing, but through working to try and help Miles get home he's sees there's another way to fight. Turning him into a less violent hero. Miles 42 seemed to almost feel disrespected at the thought that he needed help to be good, that's why I think he already is but more Punisher than Spider Man.

Miles 42 Spanish accent seems a bit more prominent because he spent more time with his mother when his father passed. Also his shoes are still untied because he never met Peter and went on the metaphorical journey of him no longer tripping over his own feet and mistakes and walking on his own. This Miles hasn’t gone on that journey. “Miles do you wanna end up EXACTLY like your uncle?”
His shoes aren’t “tied” because that’s a common style with black youth. They’re still technically tied and tight, they just loop through the lace-holes rather than making a bow.
This theory is DOA.
@@Aden_III wrong. Miles starts the first movie with his shoe laces untied and by the end they are tied. He even says it’s a choice in the first movie reflecting his irresponsible nature. “Do you want to end up just like your uncle?” He even drops and breaks the the goober because he stumbles on the metaphor of his irresponsible choices. Also it’s normal with teens because that is the most rebellious age. We even get a scene where Miles trips on his shoes only to be caught and saved from falling by his father. It’s was a metaphor for his irresponsible nature being a choice and his dad keeping at bay from the real life consequences except Miles42 didn’t have that dad, he had his uncle Aaron

@@Aden_III wtf are you talking about I’m black and 22, I’m not talking about when he tied his laces to loosely fit without hitting the floor I’m talking about when they are fully untied, all throughout the movie he laces them in that style and they fall apart and it trips him up and someone ironically points out that his shoe laces are untied, of course it’s a tool of the youth especially in black culture because a decent amount of it is based on rebellion. My point tho is that symbol of rebellion literally trips him up at pivotal times and the fact that he literally breaks the universe saving gooeber because of a rebellious fashion choice is literally what I’m talking about. It’s a symbol of youthful rebellion and he transitions into a practical responsible choice, which again is literally the difference for Miles and Miles42. One grew beyond internalized rebellion and accepted responsibility one didn’t, in fact after Miles42 falls from the ceiling and they show us his back the very first detail we got of is identity is his shoes. And the show he still has that short laced way of tying shoes that tripped Miles up in the first movie so much. Miles’s shoes have always been a part of his metaphorical identity and even the choice of shoes is intentional.
But do you believe he will be a villain? Because I believe he isn’t, but is definitely making immature but radical and effective choices. I think that’s why he’s prowler instead of his uncle. Miles is SMART, an effective web slinger, and apparently one of the best Spider-Men in all universes. His 42 is no different, but has no father and has no radioactive spider powers.
I loved the twist so much. They were like “your hair”, “who’s Spider-Man?” But it didn’t hit until you saw the mural of his dad.

Idk it definitely hit some people sooner I somehow didn't realise until the actual reveal but others saw it coming from the moment the send-back-home machine was introduced
I love how 42 Miles is clearly fluent in Spanish. Goes to show that he paid attention and got an A in class, unlike our Miles who was too busy being Spider-Man. Very subtle call back to the start of the film.

Earth 42 Miles isn’t a villain. He’s an antihero.
What if his dad was killed by the Sinister Six. Uncle teaches Miles 42 to fight and defend himself, while taking down the Six.
Miles Prowler and his uncle are the anti hero’s trying to simply survive. Twist!!!!
I like that theory. Hope they put it in the next movie

Everything about the twist is so good! The prowler theme being mixed in with Gwen's drums. The custom air Jordans (which if ever get released I have to get a pair) to him embracing his Spanish heritage and bringing out that inner dog in him. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds

This is a really interesting way to invoke the classic "evil twin" archetype in storytelling.
That entire scene with Miles tied up while Aaron silently works on the Prowler glove gave me HOSTEL type vibes. Creepy as F scene.

A little detail that sticks from the first film to the 2nd film is that miles still doesnt know what comic con is. But in earth 42, they have comic con.
When miles first meets spider gwen while trying to steal the PC he asks how many spidermen there are and Peter B makes a joke about comic con and miles asks "whats comic con?" He does the same when Miles-42 mom asks if spiderman is a comic con thing

I actually can't believe the first movie came out 5 years ago. I can't wait for the new one! Whenever a new superhero movie comes out, I'm honestly more excited for Paul's breakdown than the actual movie itself

@@vascocorreia3128 oh I heard that too. In fact, one of the guys at the theater was shitting all over our conspiracy theories after the movie. He’s a kid that worked there and just cleaning up our popcorn. And he kept saying all these things. After the zombie apocalypse of 2020 I don’t plan that far ahead.
Prowler Miles will definitely become a good guy, all that sadness and despair in his eyes, he’s not happy about being bad.
I already see Earth 42 Miles being the protector of their universe, but in an antihero sort of way. I could see Miles 42 protecting his world from the Sinister 6 in a Robin Hood sort of way, with Aaron helping him with tech and stuff.

I think you're right to a degree but the problem is Prowler miles isn't strong enough. I believe Spiderman Miles is gonna team up with him to take Sinister six down and than Prowler miles will help save Spiderman's Dad.

We talk a lot about how Prowler could become a good guy in BTSV, but how do we know he's not already a good guy (or a vigilante of sorts) at the end of ATSV? It would make more sense for Aaron and Miles to be sneaking around (like what they were talking about before the Prowler attacked Spiderman Miles) like they were if they were trying to do good against the Sinister Six who seem to be in charge... maybe the Sinister Six killed Jeff Morales in some way and they're looking for revenge, who knows? I don't think we should count out the Prowler as a good guy just yet.

Wrong, Earth 1610 Miles wouldn’t have become the prowler. Unlike Earth 42, Earth 1610 does have a spider-man(Peter Parker) to save the city from being in chaos. He’d likely live a normal life with his dad surviving as captain and thus avoiding the spider man “canon event”.
@@IAmKentori Nah man his fate was changed, when he had first met his Peter before he died. His spider-sense changed color ways from purple-green to blue-red. He literally switched his fate.

I think the reason why peter died is because miles showed up out of nowhere and distract him. the reason why he is there is because he try to figure out what happened to him. so it could be that miles is the reason why peter died

The green and purple color change is what really blew my mind… I love when stories quietly set up plot twists long ahead of time.
I'm pretty sure he's a vigilante. Saw the film 4 times and toward the end on the news they mention the sinister 6 and how there's a vigilante. Him and Miles are probably teaming up in some way.

Ooo, I feel like I already know where the third movie is going...
Basically, Prowler Miles shows Spider Miles around his world for a bit (with some quips and annoyed, begrudging begging for help on Spider Miles's part, and some begrudging tolerance on Prowler Miles's) and explaining his backstory. Eventually, Spider Miles spills on what he's been going through and how he's trying to save his dad. After hearing about the Multiverse and how Spider Miles's father is still alive, Prowler Miles hatches a plan to replace Spider Miles, aka the same thing Miguel did that lead to his universe being destroyed. Spider Miles doesn't tell him that though since he didn't think Prowler Miles intended to replace him, and besides, he doesn't like WHY Miguel wanted to stop him from saving his father so omits the "Canon has to happen or world is destroyed" part. Spot realises this, and intends on using Prowler Miles to beat Spider Miles, and then backstab Prowler Miles so he can kill Davis and maybe even his mom in front of Spider Miles. After all, what better person to use to beat your worst enemy but themselves?
Now, because Prowler Miles intends to do the nearly the exact same thing as what Miguel did that ruined everything, Miguel and Spider Miles eventually come to a temporary truce since their goals kind of align. (Miguel wants to stop Prowler Miles from ruining a Canon Event by replacing Spider Miles and saving Davis which is doubly worse than what Spider Miles simply wants, and Spider Miles wants to save his dad and universe)
As the movie progresses, we see Prowler Miles grow increasingly worried and suspicious of The Spot's motivations, especially after he helps The Spot gain more power and The Spot slowly becomes more and more unhinged as he grows in power. This leads to the spot occasionally leaving out hints to Prowler Miles about what he REALLY plans to do, and that's to ruin Spider Miles's life by killing his dad.
I feel like the climax would end up being Prowler Miles realising the horrible life he lead (and is currently leading) and the horrible actions he's committed, self-reflecting and regretting everything. He also ends up figuring out what the Spot REALLY wants to do (with a bit of help from a struggling Spider Miles, so the two end up forming a quick friendship since they're the same person with different motivations but did lead similar lives at one point so they GET each other), and as a result, eventually sacrifices himself to stop the Spot or at least confuse him, leaving Spider Miles enough time to finish The Spot off and ending the movie on a somber note.
Or I could be completely wrong, who knows what they'll do in the third movie kek
We’ve spent these two movies showing that Miles is more than worthy of the Spider-Man mantle and anyone can wear the mask but what matters is how you wear it. This Miles was meant to be bit because he was the hero of this story. I think he still is he just doesn’t have spider powers to help him in a fight against Spider-Man’s rogues gallery and the 6th Sinister6 member is probably kingpin who I imagine shot Jeff the same way he shot Aaron. This will be the first half and they’ll fight the sinister 6 and start to lose until Gwen and the others show up. The whole world of 42 proves Canon events can be changed because it’s still there without a spiderman but instead they have a Miles to hold it together the best he can because in true spiderman fashion he won’t give up even without the powers.
This is exactly what I was thinking, along with Gwen's universe not immediately collapsing after Captain Stacy revealed he quit. Pavitr's universe looked like it was collapsing because The Spot blew a gaping hole to escape so is that what it was for sure, you know? Miguel's team is shown to just lie to Miles. Miguel's chain of events is far different from what Miles is trying to do. Miguel literally replaced someone in another universe. Miles just wants to save his dad. It's shown events can be changed, how it's not truly set in stone. There's a theory Hobie knows this too, because in what way would Hobie ever be close to a police captain (there IS a theory he might have been the one to kill him though)? I feel like the loss of a loved one is what you initially need, and so far they all have except Pavitr, which is probably why he finds everything so easy. Prowler in the comics starts off as a villain then becomes an anti-hero, so maybe Miles-42 being that is a possibility since these movies tend to follow similar story beats, even if their way of getting there is different.
I really really want prowler Miles to become a good guy and an honorary spiderman since it was his destiny, idk how it'd happen though

So while the 42-universe is still there, there's still horrible consequences that happened to E42 when the canon is disrupted. So in a way, Miguel is still right that disrupting the canon of a specific universe can bring horrible consequences for that said universe.
Also, the problem is, we don't know when does disrupting the canon of some specific universes will bring more horrible consequences to said universes, like we know disrupting the canon of E42 would result in it become a worse place, while in Miguel's alternate universe where his daughter is alive, disrupting the canon of that universe caused that universe to be destroyed. So even tho there's some chances that disrupting some canon events might not bring more horrible consequences (at least not yet), it is still irrational to take such risks, especially among those risks is the literal destruction of a planet/universe.
And I said "at least not yet" bcuz it is still very possible, that those universes will got the horrible consequences happening due to their canon being disrupted, but we just don't saw it yet.

If we get a live action Miles, I don't think it'll be this one. I think it'll be their own, since he's confirmed to exist in the Homecoming
Miguel makes it a big point to Miles the spider was meant for earth 42. And how they don't have a Spiderman. But I feel even if earth 42 miles had gotten bitten, it wouldn't have lead to him being a hero. I feel he would've still become the prowler just now spider boosted, or just an evil Spiderman. Because to me whatever happened in his universe for him to loose his dad, lead to this Uncle Aaron feeding into that Miles anger and hate or aggression. Or maybe that Aaron also was way more bad than primary Miles' uncle, and got 42 Miles to become dark naturally since Miles idolized him. So I feel had that universe got the spider it'd still be bad if not worse.
Or maybe they're both good and the canon fixed itself by making miles a prowler type of hero/antihero in a evil world? We know nothing about this version.
we don't know for sure his father died before or after he meant to get bit by radioactive spider.
nah, if miles got bitten by spider, he would have saved his father with this power, which he wouldn't turn evil and live the same life as original miles
Even though its hinted the spider was gonna bite miles, considering there even wasnt a peter spider man in 42, it probably would of bitten peter if it followed the canon
Loved the shout out to Sliders, especially that episode, which was so awesome back in the day. Now *that* is a show I’d like to see remade.

The backstory for 199999/616 prowler should be he took things into his own hands. What I mean by this is that in the first films he said he didn’t want Vultures weapons in his neighbourhood but then either through seeing what Spider-Man had accomplished or realising what he was doing wasn’t helping he decided to use leftover Vulture weapons to build his suit and become an anti-hero. The part with the vulture tech would be cool as it would let them explain how he’s got his hands on such high tech gear in only 5 years and stayed under the radar. This could also mean they can give him some sort of anti-gravity tech like boots that let him run on walls or the ceiling or his claws which could give almost spider man like grip. This would make him a great villain for spider man to fight if they were allowed to use Spider-Man that is
Anybody remember how beat up the house was in Prowler Miles universe? That was the second thing I noticed and I was like damn the fam had to have hit hard times....really dont wanna have to wait til March but im excited!

First of all, that's a quick breakdown right here. The sequel might just focus on main universe Miles bringing earth 42 Miles and his uncle into the light while battling the main big bad who is the Spot, hopefully they not gonna make the story too similar to Batman v superman.

What confuses me is Miguel tells Miles he was never meant to be Spider-Man but wouldn’t it still be a canon event regardless of what universe the spider came from? Is the collider that pulled spider 42 into another reality not canon? Only way the collider wouldn’t have been created is if kingpin didn’t lose his family right? 🤔

From the looks of it, it looks like Prowler Miles is some sort of Batman like anti-hero figure who scares and punishes criminals.

I'm still thinking about it, and like he was about to get bit by the spider and the thing about spiderman is he's not a good guy just because he got super powers, he's a good guy because he chose to be a good guy so there's no reason not getting spider powers should make him a villain. Nothing about his trajectory before he got bit showed him about to turn into a villain, he did graffiti before and he still does graffiti and that doesn't make him a bad guy. Even his uncle was doing bad things out of necessity but wasn't really a bad guy. And I could totally see his father dying becoming an inspiration to honor his legacy and make him proud, just like with Uncle Ben. I'm thinking there's a misdirect going on here

@OkayAnnie it's like how Indian spider man, Pavitr Prabhakar is a variant of Peter Parker but is Indian. Miles G Morales is a variant of Miles Morales and is Dominican. Earlier in the movie Miles makes a joke about spider man being Dominican, and we see that earth 42 Miles was supposed to be bit. They reference so many little details in the movie that I doubt that's just a coincidence.

Hear me out: Everyone expects Miles 42 (I will refer to him as NeoProwler) to be a a cold, ruthless villain but what if that isn't the case? Instead, because of the radioactive spider not transforming Miles 42 into the Spiderman of his Earth the state of that version of Earth became much more dystopian than what it was supposed to be. In the movie it is implied that criminal syndicates dominate New York. Miles 42 may have to had turned to Aaron for training into the NeoProwler as a response just to survive and somehow ended up as a antihero because that's was what was needed at the current time. In a world so dark and evil, the "heroes" of that world may simply be the villains that are comparatively softer than the norm. Thus, NeoProwler might actually be more akin to slightly more ruthless Batman (sort of like the movie one that straight up brands criminals so that they get shanked in prison).

This reminded me a lot of those Marvel What if Horror comics, where everything that could’ve gone wrong went wrong.

I just don't understand how Prowler Miles stands a chance against spiderman Miles. All prowler has is tech right, no durability and speed. He's going to be fighting a more experienced Miles whos pretty much has full control over his electricity and invisibility. Not to mention spider sense.
Maybe he's like batman, a lot of experience with their tech. Miles doesn't have experience with fighting someone trained by prowler.
Both the same person though essentially so they’ll have similar strategies in battle
@@TJ-ik9on not really because Miles developed a lot of his strategies from peter and just experiencing his spider powers. The prowler would just not have that experience. One of his strategies like using his palm was developed from spider punk and prowler just wouldn’t be able to replicate nor even know that strategy

Not sure if this is true, but something I noticed was when Miles' was telling his mom he was spiderman at the end she asked if it was for comic con. In the first movie though Peter B Parker makes a joke about comic con when Miles asked "How many spidermen are there" and he didn't know what comic con was. Maybe there is no comic con in Miles' original universe but there is in others so that was the first clue hinting that Miles was in the wrong universe. Could be reaching but I thought it was interesting lol
That's not the first clue, the first clue is that when the Go Home Machine scans him, it says it's sending him to Earth-42.
In regards to sliders i remember that episode they actually did get back home that episode but thought that they didnt, Because his family finally fixed the fix

It would be great to give ProwlerMiles and Aaron42 their own redemption arcs, letting the multiverse help them heal through Miles and Jefferson. I think the story *can* run that way since Miles is set to challenge the "Spiderman=Suffering" trope... but I'm not optimistic that they will do that. I'd even say that they *should* do that, and allow Spiderfolk to break free of that bleak "canon" model that Marvel has embraced for *far* too long. That said, Marvel didn't learn that lesson from One More Day, and I suspect that whatever adventures Miles gets up to, we'll find him slipping into the same stupid rut, just like Tom Holland's Spidey did. For all their visual/technical achievement, I have a sneaking suspicion that these films will miss that opportunity to break open the Spiderverse "canon" model, and will just wind up reinforcing the status quo. I'd love to be mistaken on that supposition.
I think that we could possibly get a live action animated cross, seeing as we now know it is possible through this movie. Imagine Miles on Earth 199999. That would be cool.

Ending explained: Miles accidentally enters the wrong universe due to the machine bringing him to the universe of the SPIDERS dna. With that said, Gwen actually goes to Miles’s universe with a watch/machine that spider punk made, and realizes, along with Miles, that he is in the wrong universe. Gwen then establishes a team of spider people from the first movie and a couple from this movie to search for Miles. And that leads into beyond the spider verse.

I'm thinking Miles could possibly be his own mentor. He wasn't supposed to be Spider man so he isn't held to the same rules the others have. It could be the timeline correcting itself or creating a new path entirely.
