As an American who enjoys watching these clips, I've always wondered in the back of my mind "Who is responsible paying for damages in these kinds of races?" When the drivers smoke a guardrail or a barn or some random persons car or a vineyard or whatever, are the drivers held financially responsible? Is it the sponsors of the event? The event organizers? Or is it just an insurance thing?
Well red bull certainly gave one driver wings. It makes me wonder how many of these drivers actually walk walk the course and get familiar with it before hand as most seem to be surprised as they approach obstacles at far to greater speeds with obvious results.
Just drive it slower ! My goal would be to finish the course. I know I wouldn’t set any speed records but my car wouldn’t be totaled and I’d finish the course.

All of those making comments about slowing down and the lack of skill of the drivers have never raced. You are always on the edge and pushing it, or you are just out there making laps. Do you think a single record holder “took it easy”? It is hard to explain if you have never raced, you just always want to go faster, just a few tenths quicker. It gets in your blood and you can’t stop. Besides, rally racing and hill climbs are two of the most difficult racing styles in all of racing. You are driving on a narrow road that wasn’t made to be a race track, with weather often a factor too. With the many turns, it is easy to get off on the upcoming turn and come in a bit too fast or clip a guard rail, so there will be some wrecks. I would love to try both some day, but there just aren’t any races near where I live.
One advice... don't use a french made car. They must be dirt cheap as they are featured in every single rally and hillclimb videos that involve crashes
I always wonder whether there is enough money in this to justify the potential (and not that unlikely) loss of a race vehicle. Even if it's "just" a self made one.
@@waswolltihr1526 we built an old Chevron F3 car from the 70s back toghter from the boxes. It is driven now mildly but not at all slowly. Usually in hillclimb because there is less wear and tear so one set tires is good for an entire season. A rebuild or more spare parts would simply be the end. And a crash almost certain death^^
Hill climb organisers should carry out a driving test for entrants who wish to race precious cars like classic Lancias, Alfas, E30s and 205s. The ones who can't drive should be given something like a Citroen DS3 or BMW Mini in which to lose control, as they'll be just as desirable after a crash.
Why should you, or anyone else, decide what a person does with their own property? If you own the car, you can with it what you want, that includes destroying it in a race.
@@mopar_dude9227 That's a good point, too. Perhaps just a small test for 205 drivers, then. If they can't drive, they're given any of the latest BMW grilles with a car attached.
Shit happens when you're racing that's why so many are against street racing and say to keep it on the track because of stuff like this and why proper safety equipment is so important and vehicle tech inspections are done . It is sad to see so many people with so little driving skills have millions of Euros to race those beautiful Porsches, Lotuses, Ferraris and crash them. Waste of money, waste of cars, time. What is the point here? Total lose-lose situation imho.
Most crash car drivers have several characteristics in common. 1).- They do not know the path or route they are going to go through. (Curves, straight lines etc.) 2).- They never stop stepping on the accelerator when they go around a curve. 3).- Drivers believe they are playing a video game. 4).- It is seen that they have GREAT cars at their maximum revolutions but it shows that THEY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE IN REAL DRIVING IN RACING
