    As a water polo player, you know that you are doing good eggbeater when your upper body isn't moving so much. Even better is when it doesn't move at all. When you are eggbeatering, your lower body should be moving independently from your upper body. best way to practice is to sit in a chair or the side of the pool and work on alternating breastroke kicks. When you get in the water, back should be straight, legs underneath, seated position like you were when you practice in a chair or on the side of the pool, and little upper body movement. If you want to build endurance and leg strength, work on eggbeatering with elbows out of water for 2 minutes, rest. Then streamline position for 1-2 minutes. Really great exercise for building leg strength and endurance

    This video is great help to get a better understanding of what type of swimming will be done for most combat diving courses...thank you for your time and putting this together

    Really good. I'll experiment with some of this, for curiosity and possible survival use. Thanks, Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.

    The ability to read lips helps while watching this video. Throw back to the silent film era. Embrace the cold.

    I can float in the ocean or a pool for hours, pretty much until I get bored or thirsty. I can't do an eggbeater worth anything though. Any time I try it feels like I'm just making myself sink faster, and it really seems to stress out ligaments in the hips.

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 8 років тому +2

      +aluisious -- I'm exactly the same way. I just don't have the hip flexibility to get my legs way out to the side, which is needed with the eggbeater so your legs coming in are generating some lift. For me it's easier to just do slow flutter kicks and accept that it's not as efficient. Perfect arm sculling and breath control (big chest = better buoyancy) makes up for the lost leg efficiency.

    Maybe I'm old....maybe this is some new 'idea' from after I retired...but BEING retired from the Marine Corps after 21 years, and having been MCWSSI swim-qual'd (as well as SWET qual'd, which is a whole other fun project), I'm trying to figure out where the 'drownproofing' started. I mean, there wasn't anything about half-breaths, or preparing your trousers for flotation, or, well, anything...this looks like some YMCA half-training (after they quit using constraints and cinder blocks as starting points)...

      It's really about 2 things. Teaching water confidence and weeding out those who don't have it. What it's called is irrelevant, the basis is water con.

    Has drownproofing ever been used in actual combat to survive?

    • @MountainVisions
      @MountainVisions 4 місяці тому

      People don't really understand this has literally nothing to do with actual drown proofing. It's entirely (or almost entirely) about water confidence and weeding out people that shouldn't be there. If you try doing a lot of this stuff even as a good swimmer you will notice it's kinda difficult, and this is the stuff no on is harassing you with. So if you can't do this, you probably won't be able to do the future evolutions.

    What is negative /positive in water mean?

    • @hafizpreciouskwakye5046
      @hafizpreciouskwakye5046 5 років тому +4

      When you are negative in water, your body naturally drops slightly below the surface in water when you do nothing, when you are positive, keep a straight enough posture and limbs slightly apart from your body and you ll float naturally.
      In a nutshell, positive in water means you are less dense and you ll float easily,
      Negative is vice-versa

    That drown proofing is dumb as fuck. If your hands are tied behind your back the first thing you do in any situation would be to slide them under you and in front. Then assume the dead at sea position face down in the water arms crossed bellow you and hanging legs. You can bob up and down using the buoyancy from your lungs and only need to use neck to gain breaths of air.
