I promise you that if you cut your hair your curls would come back to life. My hair looks like yours and I think we have the exact same texture judging by how your hair looks whether it's natural, blown out, straightened, or curled with an iron. Right now my hair is as long as yours and its super healthy and curls exactly like yours BUT when my hair is shorter, my curls are a lot more defined and bouncy. It's just the weight of all that hair and lack of layering that weighs it down.

Agreed! I have naturally curly/wavy long hair and recently cut bangs and there is a HUGE difference between the curliness of my bangs and the rest of my hair. I agree that the shorter your hair is, the more defined and curled it will be.

If you think coconut oil is moisturizing, try the mixture of olive oil and almond oil!! it turns the dryest hair silky!
and if you have trouble getting products out of your hair just go for the apple cider vinegar rinse, its natural!!!

Don't put it at the crown of your head (where your roots are) and your hair won't get greasy but definitely wash it out with sulfate-free shampoo and it makes a difference in leaving hair non-oily feeling

Wow this is amazing. I have the same exact story and I felt you were just telling me my life. I hated my curly frizzy hair and all I did was straight my hair since 5th grade, and I am now 23 FINALLY feeling comfortable in my natural hair the past year. I learned what Tori Kelly uses in her hair and MAN it's amazing- NYM sea salt spray when hair is damp and then NYM curl cream after to decrease friziness. I barely touch my straightener nowadays and I feel so free. I'm writing this as I just started the video and now I'm just so excited to learn of more products from you Kathleen! Thank you for providing amazing content and just being in so sync with my life without even knowing hahaha! You're awesome!

oOoO I like your tip about using a mask instead of conditioner! Same hair type as you guuuuurl! Also try R&B by LUSH as a leave-in conditioner when you want to wear your hair natural, it's SO bomb!

My curls had faded out as a teen too, however when I started to use the devapoo zero lather daily cleanser for curly hair paired with the conditioner, after a week or two of use, ALL my curls came back + more. I also use the Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner (in the white and purple bottle) after every shower & I feel like it locks in the moisture even more, plus it smells AMAZEBALLS. They sell the set all this at Ulta, I really recommend you try it if you want to revive your curls!
Another thing I do to avoid heat, like you said, while diffusing my hair is putting the blow dryer on the cold setting. It does take a little longer to dry your hair but worth the benefits!

You should try Bumble and Bumbles Curl Line! They have an abundance of different products that are targeted towards all different types of curls - from wavy to afro curls!
The shampoo and conditioner are really light weight but do a great job of cleaning and hydrating the hair, and the conditioner can even be used as a leave in. There's also a primer, which is a misting spray you use after you've towel dried your hair, it helps prevent frizz, hydrates and works super well in combination with their defining cream! It also reactivates your curls a few days into a wash. Bumble also has a great dry shampoo!
I'm not 100% sure if there is silicone in the product, but if not, I think you might like it :)
My little girl has the same exact hair- texture and frizziness as you, except the color treated part. And I have thin, straight, short hair, I was having a hard time figuring out what to use on her beautiful curly hair. Your tips helped out so much! The Coconut and hibiscus and the African black castor oil line from Shea moisture ( anything from Shea moisture really) is the only thing I use in my curly hair. They're a natural line and cruelty free. I cannot use anything else because my hair will dry out and my curls are not defined. Used them for about three years now and my hair is so long-lasting strong and healthy 🌸

I use Garnier whole blends nourishing shampoo and conditioner avocado oil & shea butter oil. And I also use the hair mask. it deeply replenishes and restores. You can get it at CVS Walgreens Wal-Mart. I'm sure other places but that's where I've seen it. it's amazing. I love it.

I've found the OGC Moroccan Argan Oil Weightless Healing Oil at target and it makes my hair look so soft and shiny and frizz free when I'm running out the door and my hair needs a pick me up. Even though you know much more about haircare I've found it works really well and you should try it out! :D

Yessss. I am someone with pin straight hair, but one of my daughters has curly hair from my husband and I am always so clueless with what to do with it. I have a really shit combination for hair. My ends get super wavy, practically curly, and dry, while my roots are flat as fuck and get oily the next day after washing. And I try to balance out my hair by concentrating the shampoo and cleaning/volumizing products at the roots and keeping conditioning products at the ends, as well as trying not to wash daily, but to no avail! Anyone have any advice? 😭

Same!! I don't know the solution either. I go through a lot of dry shampoo trying to help with my oily roots.
Ok, so your roots are probably over reacting to being dry, thus creating an over abundance amount of oil to contract the dryness,,,just like acne on ones face. Try using a good shampoo that has no sulfates and pharabens. I recommend Alterna Caviar or Living Proof shampoos, yes they are expensive but you will see immediate results. They try using AG Sleek argan/coconut conditioner for your ends. I'd love to hear if this works for you as I work at Ulta and have recommended this combination to tons of people and everyone seems to love it!
+JeriMNGIRL unfortunately my hair has always been oily, as far back as elementary (or at least as far back as I can remember). When I was a kid, I hated taking showers, and would allow my hair to get super oily. But not over-drying my hair never took care of the oiliness. I do use a sulfate free shampoo, and I have used Argan oil in the past but it's wayyy too heavy on my fine hair (I can only use it as a mask, and even then it doesn't seem to do much). Thank you for the advice though! And that's funny cause I work at Ulta as well! (I'm better with makeup than I am with hair though lol)
I also have long wavy HEAVY FINE hair and it doesn't weight my down,,,the mixture is a perfect combination,,however my friends who have short fine hair can't use this stuff. FYI--not sure if you know this but any product you buy at Ulta, you can try it, use up to 1/4 of it and return it if it doesn't work out for you. This is a great way to try expensive shampoos to see what you like or don't like,,,and Sephora will even give you a small (tiny) sample to take home and try first. GOODLUCK!!!!

The L'Oréal Ever Curl is great. It's sulfate free and has tons of different products including a cleaning conditioner, styling products and more. I love all the L'Oréal ever pure lines bc they are great for colored hair and you can mix and match for ur hair needs.
Rachelle Rockwell You need to use a sulfate shampoo to remove the silicones in your other hair products. Build up is a nasty ordeal. If you’re goin sulfate free, you also need to go silicone free. It’s a huge switch to make, but it’s worth it for curlies. And there are so many good drug store products now.

my favorite curly hair shampoo HAS to be Carol's Daughter Black vanilla shampoo. it's sulfate free, it's for dry hair and it smells awesome. my hair is really thick and curly and it really works to get the gunk out of my hair while leaving it soft and shiny. i've been using this shampoo forever, it's a pretty good price and you can get it at walmart😊

Hi Kathleen! You could always use a diffuser on your blow dryer on the cool setting so you don't do any heat damage on your hair!

and also, my favorite shampoo is the AG Hair Care cleansing cream, it's huge and has pink flowers and it's foam free but it doesn't make my curls puffy or frizzy and it's conditioning and it's gr8 for texture also

Try the Shea Moisture High Porosity Shampoo and Conditioner! Silicon free. Paraben free. Sulfate free! I think it might work well for you!!
I brush my hair when I have my conditioner in my hair in the shower
+Chastin Kierner I use a wet brush while my hair is wet with conditioner in it, that's the only time I can brush it! lol any other time it would frizz up and break off.
your hair is the weakest when it's wet, you should try using a pick or a wide tooth comb to get tangles out when your hair is wet

Omg this is by far my favorite video of yours! My hair is curly/wavy (somewhere in between) and I struggle with it all the time! I love to wear it natural and I'm always looking for new products. My favorites are the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus style milk, OGX Renewing + Argan Oil, and the OGX Moroccan curling perfection defining Creme. For shampoo and conditioner I the Tresemme Expert Botanique nourish and replenish line. It's made with coconut and aloe Vera. I also really like the OGX shampoo and conditioners.
1-I looove coconut oil for my hair!
2-My favorite dry shampoo is "Batiste Tropical Coconut & Exotic" it's the best out there and inexpensive.
3-Kathleen you should try the L'oreal sulfate free shampoo " I use the one for dry and damage hair" and I love it! +KathleenLights

Saaaame about hating texturiser, i want silky soft. For me bumble + bumble curl defining cream is the only thing that will control the frizz, I can't feel it in my hair and it doesn't make the curls crispy.

Also, SUGGESTION: try dry shampoo at night right before bed and just use fingertips to rub it into your scalp. This eliminates any white residue and let's it really sink in and in the morning it's amazing. Sometimes I will sleep in a high ponytail after this and that adds some volume too which is great because I hate texturizing products as well.
