    So glad I'm not alone. I envy girls who don't have dry skin. Having dry skin is so hard when doing make up you have to be sooo picky with the products you use. I'm thankful for no acne but dry/flaky skin ssuckksss!!

      PharmaAnalyst Coconut oil also clogs pores, unfortunately. It just made me breakout.

      Madame Red I used it and it made me break out too! I never break out so I know that that's what it is. I also used it in my hair and I think it caused me to lose hair :(

      Nat S. I've never had negative effects from putting it in my hair. coconut oil definitely has a lot of benefits, its just not the best to put on your face since it clogs pores :/

    I am almost 44, have no wrinkles yet, and the only thing I use / used / will keep on using for my *extremely* dry skin is the Nivea blue tin cream as a moisturizer day & night and also as an eye cream. It is greasy if you're not extremely dry, though. Fair warning! Don't say I didn't warn you! :D I always used baby oil to remove make-up, and sometimes I use a few drops of sweet almond oil underneath my moisturizer. Just dropped on a cotton pad or ball and wiped over the face - this is when I don't wear make-up, which is frequent as of late. My doctor at the time recommended the sweet almond oil to us when I was 3! Best rec. ever!

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 8 років тому +2

      MsJenna12
      No washing in the evening, and plain water in the morning - otherwise it dries my skin out too much, even plain water does dry my skin out. I sometimes oil-cleanse (it's a whole technique). This is all doctor approved.

      Omg That's what my mom has been using since she was a little girl!! She used on my all her kids as well. And she still uses it after her showers and she has like no wrinkles on her face and she's almost 50

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 8 років тому +6

      Shammy S
      I use a few drops of oil (adjust to taste) on a cotton pad or ball and rub that over my face, massage it in well, then wipe off the excess with a few fresh pads. It cleans. But that's it. I often use that underneath my moisturizer. It's also providing your skin with a barrier of oil, so moisturizer goes on better.

    I would love to see you try out Korean skincare. I've recently jumped on the bandwagon and have noticed such an improvement in the texture of my skin. Most products have natural ingredients and aim to moisturize skin. Sounds like something you may enjoy!

      I used to really love Korean skincare and I still do, but for sensitive skin, which I have REALLY sensitive skin, I don't think its a good choice. It's really hard to tell which products are suitable for sensitive skin, because its hard to try out products or ask for samples if you're not in Korea. There are also no websites, to my knowledge, that provide recommendations of Korean skincare for sensitive skin, and even when the ingredients are more natural, the products are also in general, harsher on the skin.
      One of my Korean friends who was actually a K-pop trainee said that this is because the Korean skincare focuses on the belief that you "exfoliate the sh*t out of your skin and replace it with products". This works on most skin types, and I like it for when I'm not in a location where my skin is hypersensitive but otherwise I find that even when I am using 2 emulsions, 2 hydrating toners, a moisturizing serum and an occlusive cream, my skin still ends up red, dry, and stinging by the morning or halfway through the day.

    Kathleen!! The night-a-mins product contains BHA (Beta-Hydroxy Acid), whose actual ingredient name is Salicylic Acid. That's why it makes a huge difference! :) "BHA exfoliates both the surface of skin and penetrates to do the same within the pore. That means BHA treats concerns like red marks, brown spots, wrinkles, and sun damage as well as those that develop inside pores-namely blackheads, whiteheads, and breakouts." AHA's are great too, especially for anti-aging and skin texture of any sort (cleared my spots and scarring) since it works on the surface. BHA's are only better for breakouts because it penetrates into the pore. Both similar effects, just different levels of skin :) Hope you found this helpful x

    • @DianaxSalim
      @DianaxSalim 8 років тому +1

      What would you recommend for someone who has bumpy textured skin. They're not spots they're just bumps all over my cheeks and it's making me so insecure, looks horrible with and without makeup! You seem to know what you're talking about. Thanks in advance xx

    • @angiehernandez6400
      @angiehernandez6400 8 років тому +5

      +Diana Rasoul Definitely by using a BHA leave-on exfoliant! (For these reasons: it gets beyond skin’s surface to exfoliate pores and has antimicrobial properties to kill bacteria that might be making matters worse. Plus, salicylic acid (BHA) is related to aspirin, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent.) Paula's choice has a great Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid or gel leave-on exfoliant! Her products, as Kathleen mentioned are fairly inexpensive too. I would suggest starting off by using it twice or 3 times a week, then daily in the evening. The only difference between the gel/lotion is that the gel sinks in a lot faster, but it doesn't really matter because you can use any product right after the exfoliant anyway. Here's the link for the liquid: www.paulaschoice.com/shop/skin-care-categories/aha-and-bha-exfoliants/_/Skin-Perfecting-Two-Percent-BHA-Liquid-Exfoliant and here's their expert advice articles on skin disorders: www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skin-disorders

    Thank you so much for introducing Drunk Elephant to me. When you talked about that serum way back I put off getting it because of the price, and then I finally bit the bullet and LOVED IT. Then I purchased their entire line (sans the oil and lippie) and my skin looks so amazing now. I have bad acne, I'm talking bad. Some people say they have bad acne with a few breakouts but no, I have cysts like... have been prescribed Accutane on several occasions but haven't taken it yet. My skin looks great now. I still break out, what average people probably consider bad, but since DE it's not nearly at ALL what it used to be.

      I use Rosehip Oil for my Rosacea the oil should not have an odour at all, if it smells awful it's probably rancid - I know this having purchased from Amazon and when it arrived it smelled horrendous when I contacted the company they told me not to use it as it had probably gone off and sent me a new one, to make the oil last longer keep away from sunlight as this causes it to go off quicker X

      +Jessie LC yeah it is sorta a mixture of earthy and fishy almost. That's good to know i keep it on my bed side table and use it like every other day. It does tend to stain my skin yellow/orange right when i put it on too. Which is a little annoying if i'm wearing a white teeshirt. Mine is 100% organic cold pressed rosehip seeds i believe.

    One thing I do every time I wash my face is dry my face with a paper towel! I've heard that using the same towel more than once can be bad for your skin especially if you're using it to dry your hands as well. It can cause more dirt and attract bacteria onto your skin. It's more work and money to use a paper towel but ever since I heard that I can't use a towel. I specifically use bounty paper towels, the half sheets work very nice ! That way you don't use a whole sheet and it gives you the option to use half.

Okay - that sounds weird - but seriously, all of your info and insight is amazing! You're totally gorgeous, but you're not just another pretty face. I appreciate that you give smart, honest, and really in-depth reviews and demos. I've recently been on the fence about purchasing a couple of high-end items, and your reviews (along with some others' reviews) have given me exactly the info I was looking for, plus you've saved me a bunch of money! Anyway, thanks for all you do! :)

    I have extremely dry, flaky and sensitive skin so I can't wait to try some of these products! For a boost of moisture, nothing has worked for me like the Sephora Lotus sheet mask. I am sensitive to many ingredients like aloe, oat and rose extracts and citrus oils but this doesn't irritate my skin at all. It leaves no oily residue and makeup applies over it beautifully. I highly recommend it!

    Hi Kathleen! I know you posted this video awhile ago, but I have been having so much trouble with my skin lately that I purposely searched your channel for a updated skin care routine. From watching you for year I knew we had very similar skin types, dry, sensitive, sometimes acne prone, basically unpredictable:) I trust your makeup reviews so much, so after watching this video I bought the Kakadu face wash and the Sensibio micellar water and I have to say I am amazed at the results. My skin has been calm, clear, and brighter since I started using this combination at night before my serum. I honestly thought I was going to just have to go to my dermatologist or an esthetician to buy some crazy expensive products because I was so tired of waking up in the morning with a new breakout, or dry patches, or huge pores. I one hundred percent believe in these products and their effectiveness and encourage anyone with similar skin to try them out! You are so honest and your beauty shines through in all your videos, inside and out, and my crazy skin and I thank you so much!

    I agree with you on the packaging. Pump or tube skincare products is better. They won't get contaminated by our hands and sooo much easier to apply. I hate jar moisturizers!!! :/
    And even though it comes in a Jar, I do love the Clarins Multi-Active Jour Day Cream Gel it smells divine. But I am combo so I get the gel. You would probably enjoy the same thing in just the cream (targeted for drier skin types) same scent, same ingredients- just thicker than the gel.

      From what I know they are milia, you never mentioned whether they can be extracted or not, if they can be extracted they'd most likely be closed comedones and can be treated with tretinoin though not everyone has had success with it. Whatever they are though, if you have had problems with them for a long time, it's best to see a dermatologist bc they can really examine your skin condition in person and give you the right treatment.

    From what you said about your skin sensitivity, dryness, and few breakouts, I think a trick of mine may work! I though my grandma was CRAZY when she told me this, but it works wonders. If I find one particular spot on my face extremely dry and I don't have much time to fix it (less than 24 hrs), I actually use a very thin layer of Aquafor healing ointment (yes, I am talking about the Vaseline-like stuff) on the dry area. I have done this after getting out of the shower, and by the time I have picked out my makeup and blow-dried the dry spot was gone! I know it sounds strange, but as long as you are not acne prone, it works well and is very sensitive.

      I used to have that exact skin type and now my skin is incredibly clear! Number one, look at what you eat, often certain foods can cause more inflammation in your body, and acne is a form of inflamation (look up dr andrew weil, he has a whole "diet" centered around that), for me that meant cutting out most milk and cream products (but that's ok cause almond milk is delicious and Ben & Jerry's has non dairy now) and making sure I get plenty of Omega 3s. As for products, I cleanse with African black soap. I've found other cleansers that work but the Shea Moisture African Black Soap is hella cheap (somewhere in the 5-ish dollar range and it's at Walgreens, Target etc). It's a bar and it looks weird but it works so well. Next I tone, which brings the skin back to its optimal pH and helps it battle all sorts of problems. I literally just mix half apple cider vinegar and half (filtered or bottled) water in a little travel bottle and swipe that across my face. For moisturizer, even if your skin is oily you NEED to replenish that moisture so your skin doesn't get irritated (acne is a form of irritation) and doesn't overcompensate with excess oil. The important thing is to find something without fragrance because most fragrances are super irritating. I've heard good things about Paula's Choice, however I'm on a budget and use the Shea Moisture problem skin moisturizer (I really like Shea Moisture lol and I've tried a lot of brands), it has tea tree oil which is a great antibacterial ingredient. It's an interesting texture, very thick but dries to a velvet-y almost matte texture, great under makeup actually. I sometimes then follow up with a few (I'm talking like 3-7) drops of an oil, argan and jojoba are both nice, especially at night or when my skin is feeling dry. I also occasionally use masks, I love the Shea Moisture (big surprise) problem skin clay mask and a HOLY GRAIL of mine is using raw honey as a face mask (seriously, if you use nothing else I recommend here, use raw honey it's amazing). Aaaaand yeah that's more than enough for one youtube comment lol sorry I'm a huge skincare nerd.

      I have the exact same skin type. I've been using sunflower oil to take off my makeup, yes to cucumbers daily gel cleanser, alpha skin care enhanced wrinkle repair cream, apple cider vinegar toner and la roche-posay mineral sunscreen. The alpha skin care enhanced wrinkle repair is the one product that has really helped with my skin texture. I definitely agree with Chris B, when i cut out all the foods I had a sensitivity to and started taking vitamin D3 my acne really cleared up. Another thing that was causing my acne was the laundry detergent I was using to wash my bed linens (WAYYYY to much fragrance); and make sure you change you pillow case every night. I hope this helps.

I get those gross clogged pores on my nose and honestly I don't think it really does anything for them but it's helped so much with texture and dark spots. the 2% would be more effective but the 1% is ok if you have very sensitive skin as besides being an exfoliant salicylic acid is also an anti irritant! also out of the 2%'s they have i lovee the clear regular strength one. it has the same formula as their "resist" one (minus the antioxidants) but is way cheaper

      I use the 2% liquid exfoliant by Paula's Choice too and it's my holy grail. It has completely transformed my skin. It is an acid which peels your skin (gently) and exfoliates all the dead skin off, unclogs pours and brings all the shit in your pores (esp the nose) to the surface. After a warm bath, if you give your nose a gentle squeeze, all the gunk comes spilling out lol it's really good. If you use it long enough (2-3 months) you will realise that you skin texture has changed and your tone will become very even. Good Luck.

    OKAY, so i have tried literally everything on my face. IT ALL GAVE ME A RASH! I have such sensitive skin, plus it's combination so it's extremely oily in my T - zone and dry on my cheeks. I have been using 3 of the artistry Hydra - V skin care products on my face, and they are the facial cleanser, the toner, and the moisturizer. At first, my skin was kind of itchy, but I assume that was just my skin getting used to a new product. After using it about 3 times, the itch was gone. My skin is so textured, and just by using these 3 products every day when I get out of the shower, some of my skin texture has cleared up in large portions!! Plus, i am moisturized for 24 hours without being oily in an excessive amount. ITS AMAZING! 12/10 would recommend!

    How did she know that these products would work ? Did she do some kind of research or what ? I need help with dry sensitive skin care products as well but scared to spend so much money on something & it doesn't work . Even though I want to invest money into skin care .

      Tati Hernandez I can definitely say that the drunk elephant night serum does work because I have combo skin but mainly on the dry side these days. I started using the night serum because my skin was just terrible. It was blotchy and red. The texture of my skin was just bad. Let me just say that it cost 90 dollars which to me was like 😱😱😱. But I took investment and I saw how nice my skin got. Now I kinda got sick and tired of using it so I stopped for a while. And now I noticed that my skin is bad again which means I gotta start again. Lol ooh yeah, a little goes a long way. I purchased the bottle around April or may and I still have some in the bottle. So yeah, give it a try if you want to see a change. It definitely worked for me and hopefully it does the same for you.

    I have super super sensitive skin and so many products dry out my skin too much or give me those little bumps everywhere and cause texture problems. I started using Shaklee Hydrating Toner a few weeks ago and it is a toner that doesn't have alcohol in it, so it doesn't dry out your skin or irritate it. It's really helped with my texture and my skin feels so clean. It's definitely my holy grail product. I'm obsessed. It's super moisturizing as well.

    Kinda shocked you don't use any oils on your face though since you have a dry skin. I have normal to oily now but I used to have such an oily face but the oils do help a lot. I'm off to Sephora to ask for Samples now goodbye next pay check 💸💸💸

    I'm pretty sure it's for all skin types but the image brand spot treatment is AMAZING!! For an average pimple, it will take one night to work, and for a bad pimple, it might take 2 or three. But if there's an area where it's just starting to form put it on that area and it is GONE the next morning. Holy Grail pimple treatment for sure.

      It's not just "everyone on UA-cam" if you do research on skincare routines many PROFESSIONAL skincare experts recommend a whole routine that is usually:
      Pre-cleanse
      Oil cleanse
      Cleanse
      Acid tone
      Hydrating spray
      Eye cream
      Serum/treatment
      Facial cream
      There is a scientific purpose to this with benefits for each thing, and it did not just happen on UA-cam recently, it has been happening for years but now we have a platform like UA-cam for people to share all kinds of things 😉

    Thank you for this video - I love skin care and I really love seeing what other people are using, especially those with beautiful skin like yours. I also use the Glossier Milky Jelly cleanser and I have noticed that there is something in it that has made my eyelashes grow! Other people have noticed this as well so it's not just me but I just think it is so weird and wonderful that a cleanser makes lashes thicker and longer!

    Hi Kathleen
    Just a comment on your concern about skincare products being in jars...I am a somatologist & the only reason I probably know this, is because I have been for so much product training, it is ridiculous, but if your product is in a jar, it usually has a very stable formula. As long as u use your product within the set expiry date, it should be fine. Also keep an eye on the colour of the product and the smell, because if that changes, it usually is a sign of the product starting to expire. I can’t remember which product house training I did, but I remember the trainer telling us that it takes about 5 years for them to design their product jars specifically so that it keeps the product from being influenced by the elements.
    I hope this helps!
    Love your work and u are extremely talented
    Nadine

    I recently found your channel and am so glad I did! I have fair, sensitive and very dry skin too. I love that you mention Paula's choice. The Resist Daily Moisturizer with SPF is a holy grail for me, I like it even more that the one you mentioned. The super antioxidant serum from the skin recovery line is really nice too. The Resist Intensive repair cream is a must for MN winters. Tata Harper Resurfacing mask is a wonderful product for helping texture but doesn't irritate my super sensitive skin.
