Hello! Welcome aboard! Booktube is a rather friendly place and I am certain you will enjoy it. Also, I am so excited to have another Booktuber to give recommendations! As you say of yours, my Goodreads want to read list is massive and I don't want it any other way. Again, welcome aboard, sir!
Many thanks Scott really very glad to be here and get to meet some great people and some great books too. Finally made my newbie tag video quite nerve-wracking but I did enjoy it so much, can't wait to try some more of them, these tags are such a good idea and very entertaining. all the best Mark
Really thanks a lot, it seems like a very friendly community. I am actually watching your introductory 'newbie' video, very interesting indeed I am looking forward to learning/hearing more from you.
Subscribed! What a refreshing channel! For quite some time, I have been watching booktube. I have recently decided to start my own channel. In doing so, your name was mentioned in conversation so I thought I would check you out. I’m glad I did!
Hi Mark, welcome to Booktube!! Thank you so much for commenting on my recent video, I'm not sure what happened but I can't see your comment anymore so I will reply you here😊 I love Goodreads but I also have so many books that I'd like to read having spent maybe a bit too much time on it 😅 How amazing that you've lived all over the world! I look forward to your future videos😊
Oh that's a shame Misa but actually it happened to one or two other people as well. I am trying to remember what I wrote, ah yes I think it was about wanting to read the 47 Ronin book as well, because I spent a few years living in Japan and I really enjoy the culture and the history. I think on one of your other videos you mentioned Stalin at the Court of the Red Tsar, it is a very interesting book and you should definitely try it. I see you mentioned that you are a pianist and that you enjoy Russian culture I wonder have you read The Lost Pianos of Siberia by Sophy Roberts I haven't yet but I am seriously thinking about it :) I enjoyed your videos, the ones I have seen and I look forward to more. Hope you are having a good weekend. All the best Mark
@@BookTimewithElvis Oh I haven't read the the Lost Pianos of Siberia, my interest is piqued so I will look for it! I recently picked up a few more books on Russian (Soviet) history by Orlando Figes, to reaquaint myself before leading into the Stalin book as it's been a while since I read on that topic! Have a lovely weekend to you too!
@@BooksandSushi yes I was very interested in it as here in the Czech Republic we also have random public pianos seems like everyone here is a pianist except me :D Orlando Figes is interesting I really enjoyed his book Natasha's Dance but I know he had a few issues and controversy over some of the things he did to other authors but then that doesn't detract I suppose from his own writings. I listened last night to your podcast A Couple of Musos I have to ask, did the drunken man who damaged your husbands saxophones pay for the repair? I really hope so :)
@@BookTimewithElvis Thank you so much, Mark! According to Julian, no he didn't get the repairs paid for but fortunately I don't think it was a major fix. Musicians have insurance for things like this but it's not prevalent practice here. I have just read up on the controversy surrounding Figes, I hadn't been aware of that and I also read Natasha's Dance around 2006 which I enjoyed; I see that there have been a number of scandals since then which are definitely concerning, although I do enjoy his writing.
Oh definitely I am sure Elvis will make an appearance at some point 😉 he's not one for standing still for long so I'll have to film him while he's not looking. Thanks for the welcome I'm rather blown away at how friendly this community is. I'm not exactly sure what the 'newbie' tag is but I will certainly give it a try ☺️
@@BookTimewithElvis ... just put "Booktube Newbie Tag" into the UA-cam search box and filter it to show you just tag videos posted this week. That's what a lot of us do to find new Booktubers.
hi there, I am a retired English teacher in Germany originally from Britain where I was a Mathematics teacher Can I inquire how you ended up in Czechia? And not just one of the urban centres but a small town near (?) the Polish border. How is your Czech?
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment John I wish there was an interesting story as to how I ended up here but the truth is I had been teaching in Asia for a few years and I wanted to be closer to my parents in the UK and a friend of mine suggested CR so I gave it a go and 9 years later I am still here. I knew from living in a small town in Japan that one has a better experience or maybe a fuller experience living away from bigger cities where I may have been inclined to have only other expat friends so I just searched language schools in smaller towns and ended up here and I don't regret it for a second :) My Czech on the other hand could be better it is a tough language I did German at university and speak Japanese from my time there but Czech so far has been my biggest linguistic challenge :) Mark
@@BookTimewithElvis If you think Czech is hard you should have a look at Finnish 14 cases and a tendency to try to keep their vocabulary "pure" a bit like German So the word for restaurant in all the countries around is based on the French word "restaurant" whereas in Finnish it is "ravintola" - the room of eating at least it starts with an "r". German is my eighth language and I have to say it is still hard for me. Mostly because I want to discuss Goethe or some history etc and use my German mostly for buying bread etc. The writing system for Japanese is "fun" I studied Chinese for the hell of it as an evening degree course and it is a walk in the park compared to Japanese writing.
I don’t like fast reading either. It’s more rewarding to contemplate as I go.
Definitely Sharon and thank you for commenting :)
Hi Mark, just checking on some of your older videos. You have lost weight. Lookin' good, dude. 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thanks a lot very nice to hear it's certainly an ongoing battle 😀 but I feel much better already
My son, Michael K. Vaughan suggested your channel. As usual I bow to his every wish. I am looking forward to your videos.
Well Janice may I congratulate you on a well brought up son with superb taste :D thanks so much for your comment :) Mark
Welcome to Booktube! I, too, am obsessed with Goodreads. The "to read" list will never end. Peace!
Many thanks for the welcome I am very much looking forward to being part of the community :)
I kept hearing positive things about your channel and I finally got a chance to watch a video. A belated welcome to Booktube.

Thank you so much and yes I am beginning to understand that, I have significantly added to my list after watching a few videos :)
Funny this video came up in my feed! Hard to believe you only started in March. Feels like much longer.
Yes it has gone by so fast but i really enjoy it :) thank you so much for taking a chance and following me :D
My goodreads want to read list has over 1300 books on it! 🙄 Cute introduction! Looking forward to seeing future content!
