    Good video but a bit inaccurate in places.
    I have been running and fitting LPG systems for nearly 20 years. I've even designed and built my own LPG systems for cars where no system was available.
    1. LPG gives equivalent power to high octane petrol. (You should be running E5 anyway).
    2. ALWAYS have the "Flashlube" system fitted. It's essential for top-end lubrication due to the high temperature burn with LPG.
    3. LPG burns very clean indeed, in fact on most Japanese vehicles, emissions are so low as to be undetectable on an MoT test.
    4. LPG should give an approximately 7% reduction in fuel economy. Not 28% as mentioned.
    I run a 3·5 litre V6 Nissan Elgrand 5 speed automatic. I get around 35mpg on a run and up to 26mpg around town on petrol; and 33mpg on a run and up to 24·5mpg around town on LPG. A Toyota Alphard should do slightly better in 3 litre form due to Toyota engineering being slightly better than Nissan. The 2·4 litre Alphard will probably burn more fuel due to the engine having to work much harder coping with the 2 tonne weight of the vehicle.
    Very good video, well and simply explained. Thank you

      Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and write back too.
      I’ve copied this from drive lpg.
      You can also enter the local prices of Petrol and Autogas if you wish. This calculator is based on a typical MPG "loss" of 20% on Autogas compared to petrol (the energy in a litre of Autogas is less than in a litre of Petrol.)
      I agree with you that the Nissans would need flash lube but the alphard 3l appear to have more resilient valves. Flash lube never hurts though but I stopped using it 40000 miles ago. Runs peachy….most of the times.

      Lpg does burn very clean but it does require a good engine that runs well on petrol.
      I can’t remember what I said I got here
      But it’s always improving.

      Hi David,
      Can you please provide me with the... Rough formula of the equivalent mpg of LPG? I hope I'm making myself clear- I'm looking to find out how to compare the cheaper running costs and distance of LPG as opposed to petrol and diesel mpg. I understand the slight loss of power and mpg drop of LPG engines, but not the equivalence.
      Cheers!

    Just to clarify for us all. The 3 litre V6 had a four speed auto until 2005, and a five speed until 2008. The newer V6 model, with the 3.5 litre, had a six speed auto.

    My local LPG petrol station in Old Kent Rd, London cost £0.90p a litre.
    I have a Honda Odyssey 2.4l
    It can do 130 miles on a 38 litres LPG tank and 180 miles on motorway..
    There's alot of petrol station around London has discontinued selling LPG.
    It is getting harder to find LPG around London now 😕

    Interesting post. I'd be interested what your thoughts are on converting my Vellfire to LPG in 2024 as many forecourts are now removing LPG. Do you think they'll be replaced by BioLPG?

    • @Cuttothechase
      @Cuttothechase  9 місяців тому

      It’s not a clear decision anymore. It all depends on where in the country you are. If you’re in Birmingham the yes for eg. If you are in the highlands or say Edinburgh then no.
      You really need to way up all the pros and cons for your needs. I hope that helps.

    • @CraigAbrey
      @CraigAbrey 9 місяців тому

      I'm based in mid Kent. There are a few locations supplying LPG but these are slowly disappearing. I've read that BioLPG can be used in current LPG tanks, but haven't come across any forecourts supplying it. Interested to know why you'd convert if in B'ham.
      Great channel BTW.

An extra 230miles of range (currently only going 500km = 310 miles on our smaller engine size petrol in our camper conversion so adding LPG is nearly 1.75x the range if we get similar millage to you! Plus a bit of a fuel saving). Sounds like it's worth doing at ?about £1.5k to install?) - fellow Edinburger Alphard owner!

      2.4 litre would be the cheaper to run. Chain instead of belt. Easier access to spark plugs. About 27 to 29 mpg I think. 3l does about 23 to 24 in my hands.

    • @Cuttothechase
      @Cuttothechase  2 роки тому +1

      Some say it does run hotter but my vehicle has done abou 60k on lpg without any valve damage issues. I believe that the Alphard’s have hardened valve seats and hence they work quite well.
      I have about 140000 miles on mine as the odometer reads 180000 , a mixture of kms and miles.

      I am absolutely not an expert, (so bear that in mind if you're making any decisions based on what I say! 🤔) but I have done quite a bit of research on this subject lately. I think some of the older systems did have problems with burnt out valves due to the lack of inherent lubrication in L.P.G. I believe the newer systems get round this by installing a "flash lube" system that involves injecting a lubricant into the system, this is stored in a little tank that requires topping up periodically (not a big job, it's just like topping up your washer bottle). Hope this helps (remember.... NOT an expert!!). 😁

    • @Cuttothechase
      @Cuttothechase  2 роки тому

      @@simongray2533 that is spot on however with these engines, a lot of them have the lube fitted but don’t use it. Like mine hasn’t seen line applied for 2 years.

      I rarely have any oil in that valve saver. I thinks the valves on the alphard are pretty hard and resistant to heat. I would assume that the need or not for valve saver is dependent on each vehicle.
