  • It was big news here in Britain when the original HMV store established in 1921 re-opened after a few years of being empty and then another retailer being in situ for another couple of years. Record sales on vinyl are once again the mainstay of HMV just as they were more than 100 years ago but with a complete floor of home video on the first floor this should be a destination for anyone heading to London so make a note of 363 Oxford Street, London W1. In addition we have the HMV subsidiary FOPP just along from Piccadilly Circus by Cambridge Circus so there are two good reasons to head into central London now.
The Unbox Fox has just visited both this original branch of HMV and also FOPP so take a look at his massive haul here: • London 4K and Blu-ray ...

There's so much humanity in just ... going outside. Leaving your living space. Interacting. How much I miss the 90s. No Amazon, iPhones, or Social Network.

I miss HMV so much. They closed up shop in Canada unfortunately. I used to purchase so many films from there. This is a wonderful channel. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thanks for making this video John......I made the visit in today....and really enjoyed the choice of the 4K bundles....picked up the Rocky and Mad Max bundles. Left with a smile on my face and a bit of a lighter wallet. Well chuffed. Will visit again. Cheers. James. 😃

What a shop, I was so excited when Hmv announced a new store in Dublin last year but to my amazement there was no 4k / bluray section, since then they have introduced a token display but not worth the journey, I could get lost in that store for hours, great video yet again.

So glad to see the return of the flagship original store. Thanks for the virtual tour, John. It's the best I can experience from here in NZ. Looking forward to visiting at some point in the future on a trip back home. I still remember the shock of seeing it gone on one of my previous visits, so it's fantastic to see it open again.

Can't wait to visit London again. This store wasamazong the first time I saw it in 1990. I was so sad when I visited with my daughter 5 years ago, that it was closed.

Used to love visiting hmv Oxford street back in the day. Plus the virgin megastore and tower records.

Its always a good sign when the staff create some DIY signage shows theyre engaged, i used to work in s record shop in the 80s and we set up a train set in the window going round with CDs in the wagons!

Really glad you made it. It is an amazing shop. I do quite a bit of work in an office down the way on Hanover Square so look forward to visiting again later in the year. Best wishes, Dave

We had HMV come back to here in London Canada, hidden at the back of Toys R Us. No sign out front or anything. Takes up a section of the store with records, T shirts, 4k Blu-rays etc!!! We haven't really had discs in stores here for several years. Spent like $300 lol Miss the heyday of physical media that seems to still be alive in London England.

Bought many a soundtrack and sell through VHS film there in the 80s. So glad it's back.

I went last Saturday, after visiting HMV in Sheperd's Bush and before visiting Fopp in CG. It's a great to see it back but I felt a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stock. I think I prefer the squeeze through to the basement of Fopp!

  • @Private-Hudson

    Great content as usual John.

Another great video, thanks. This brings back memories, lived in London and Essex from 88 until 92 and one of the things I always did when I got the odd Saturday off work was heading down to this store. I can honestly say this is where I started collecting movies. I think around that time retail VHS movies started to become more affordable, I think prior to this they were horrendously expensive. Probably aimed more at the rental shops. Pretty sure my first purchase in the store was Aliens. Anyway, once again, thanks for sharing this. Cheers.

Hi John, I too remember this shop so well. It's good that it has reopened. let's hope studios keep making new discs which seem very scarce these days. Thelmma brought back memories, when we screened it to Ridley and his friernds. Thank you for the update, and as always a great video.

  • @holocube

Thanks John, I've walked past this store many times and had no idea this was hiding on the 1st floor! 😅 Time for a visit

  • @Kazimation

I made sure to visit Fopp in Covent Garden after watching your store review, took some friends along and came away with some goodies. I'm heading to London this Saturday so I may have to give this place a visit, it's been forever. I 've wanted that version of Thelma & Louise for a while now, may have to pick that one up. Thanks for the heads up.
