Hi Jason, thank you for this very informative video! I was able to find the original full size installation instructions from Teraflex for installation on a Jeep YJ. The way you have oriented the Z-Boxes in your installation is indeed the correct way according to the original manufacturer. Frame mount hinge to the outside for the front and frame mount hinge on the inside for the rear. I have just started the installation on my RC4WD Gelande 2 Cruiser. I am installing a complete set of Teraflex Revolver Shackles and Z-Boxes front and rear. There are no corresponding mounting holes in the frame, so I'm using Permatex Steel Weld Metal Epoxy to attach the Z-Boxes to the frame. I used some of the mounting components from the RC4WD Leaf Spring Kit to mount the Revolver Shackles at the front and oriented the hinges toward the front bumper to avoid interference with the steering linkage. I am using the RC4WD VVV-S0120 Ultra Scale Hardened Steel Driveshaft "Ver 2" (80mm - 110mm / 3.15" - 4.33") with no drop-out issues. I also had to purchase the RC4WD Z-S2111 Trail Finder 3 Front and Rear Leaf Spring Mounts in order to mount the Revolver Shackles at the rear of the frame. Once I have both front and rear suspension mounted to the frame, I will then determine the length of shocks to use. Currently the 80mm Rancho ones are too short. I will most likely go with 90mm ones.
Wow Glenn, your build sounds awesome, glad you were able to make it work! I never thought of checking the 1:1 installation instructions but I guess that goes to show that RC4WD really makes these things true to scale. Good luck with your build, it sounds like it's coming out great!
Thank you for sharing, I did this upgrade but I did not put the the boxes on the front just the back , and I took out the inner springs out of the back shocks it performs excellent
Thank you for explaining, I read where rc4wd said to get two sets of the shackles. And one of the Z boxes...I guess they already knew, putting Z boxes in the front wasn't really worth it. Even though you added them...thanks for the vedio 👍
this is awesome! recently started following, and I'm getting the tf2 soon as well and watching this upgrade made me feel more confident about my first upgrade thanks
Very nice upgrade, what i miss is more droop in every scaler/crawler suspension.Any 1:1 droop in half of there suspension travel for a good flex. The most RC springs are to stiff or hard to articulate well.
One quick note about the z-boxes up front... By snugging up the bolts you can " dumb them down" so they are not so free... Or you can lock them closed .. I have done both,
Good vid. I have the older T Boxs front and back on my TF2, But in the back i have mine flipped like your fronts and bolted to inside of the frame rail. And I have had them setup like this for over a year with no probs,
I'm not 100% sure but i think when RC4wd had T Box's listed they said they do fit front and rear. I'm hard on my TF2 . My susp holds up well. But i have 8 full leafs. 2 red and 2 black on front and 4 black on back with long helper on each leaf pack, Still have 4 and half inchs of flex
Very good upgrade video. But this is the problem with leaf springs a lack of movement as my Gmade Sawback has the same problem. But that is only used for trailing only.
The RC Cave awesome thanks ! i will make a video once its all fixed up, also i have heard of using the metal return spring from the pull start of a mower for a softer leaf spring i think ill try it see if i can get a lil more flex but also cant have too much flex so we'll see
Very nice Jason. You gunna do the D110 Shock-hoops and 100mm shocks up front, 90mm in rear? You'll pick up another good inch and half. It's funny how alot of guys think Shooter-shackles and Z-box's are cheating but to me...some real Toyota guys use them on their real 4x4 so what the big deal. I did the O-ring modification and moved the leafs around a little....short leaf on top for anti-wrap and mediums on the bottom for support. I get about 3 inches of flex. But curious what kind of flex I would get if I put my Shooter-shackles one it. Also....you gunna do the Motor-drop conversion on that one?
***** yes..Josh is run'n longer shocks. I've tried 110mm King Shocks and they were too long. 100mm are better. Right now I'm running 90mm all around. I'm really happy but later will buy the 100mm. It really helps. I really am getting about 3 inches with those simple mods but just moving the leafs around wouldn't have given me the flex I wanted...the O-ring modification is where I'm giving credit to. Are you with "RC4WD Trailfinder Fan Page" on Facebook? Thats where I've gotten most my tips. A friend Nathan Crandall is getting right at 3.5 inches of flex with no Shooter-shackles or Z-box's. All he did was the O-ring modification and the Chino-modification(hard to explain without pictures) and from just looking at it , it looks stock. I seen his truck and got to hang with him last weekend. Truck runs really good and the suspension is very smooth and compliant. Nathan's a great guy. Mid Life RC has a very extensive video of the motor-drop conversion. I can't out do that video or add anything to it...it's a good one....you should do that mod while your waiting on parts. Only takes maybe 30 minutes at most. Tom
Hey Jason. The 100mm will work in the back but you'll need to run them on the inside mount. The Trailfinder Facebook page you have to spell out just like this "RC4WD Trail Finder2 Page". Those exact spacing. Just ask for permission to join. Terry will approve it fairly quick.
***** No problem, your welcome buddy. I've had my TrailFinder about 3.5 years or so and less than a couple of months ago I put the Revolver motor in it then the motor-drop conversion and then I found that TF2 page.... it's really renewed my interest in my Truckfinder. I've done so many modifications to my Trail Finder that it performs easily as good as an well set-up SCX10 with weights in the wheel and a low turn motor. Tom
***** Your right Jason. Just hope...even with all the upgrades that it holds together with all the attention it's been getting. I've never babied it but now it just makes sooo much torque and with the offroad enhancements I drive it even harder than I used to. I just know a lot of guys have been having problems getting the right parts for their TrailFinder 2 lately and don't want to be one of them guys. Tom
***** you know Jason....I don't think I ever paid a $10 fee to be in the Super Saver club. But I know I'm a member.... definitely some good savings over a regular customer. I bought my first kit , a Clodbuster there in 1989. I bought my daughters Honcho a couple of Christmases ago for $290 to my front door. Great customer service. 8 or 9 years ago I broke a knuckles on a Wednesday(Tower was closed because it was 1am)....had a 2.2 comp on Saturday and was leaving for the comp on Friday with my two boys. They had the knuckles to me in 24 hours. Ya.....let's see RC4WD have that type of customer service.... they won't even pick up their phone. RC4WD never sent me the wrong part(but I hear it alot on TF2 fan page) but they're shipping and customer service sucks and since they redesign their website you can't hardly find anything. Tom
What size shocks are you running with your teraflex shackles? I just swapped out my stock 70mm front and 90mm rear shocks for 90mm & 110mm shocks. I'm waiting for my red leaf springs and my teraflexes to arrive and get them installed before I decide if I need leaf spring lift blocks.
Are you running all of the springs on both front and rear with those shackles and Z-boxes? My truck squats a little more than I would like with my set-up. I am running the large springs both front and rear and medium spring in the front only.
How are you? Thank you for such valuable information. I just bought an RC4WD Trail Finder 2 "LWB" RTR Scale Truck w/Chevrolet K10 Scottsdale Hard Body, and it has this big Problem. The suspension is too harsh. I'll get these parts to update it.
Hey, thanks a lot for watching! That's awesome, it's a fun crawler you'll have a blast with it! Tinkering is my favorite part, I spend 10x more time on the bench than actually driving it : )
Great informational video! My tf2 will be here Tuesday, and I will be using all your helpful info. Is there a way you can by chance post a quick link of the shackles and z boxes, so I know for sure I'm getting the right parts? Thanks in advance, awesome work sir!

The RC Cave I also know that you can take leaf springs out to give it more flex but don't know how many to take out. Have you done this? I was thinking of just doing the main link and the smallest one, thanks.
Sorry I didn't see your comment. I had actually already upgraded the drive shaft on mine so I didn't have that problem. Maybe try a longer drive shaft?
i know im off the subject but i been running leafs for 5 years my rig is full scale and a single speed but i hate how stiff it is so im just giving up and putting the 4link and 3link on it and a 2speed trans i know thats not scale but i think is going to be bad ass and faster i just think i will run it more and it will keep all 4 tires planted on the ground at lest better no more comp just fun its retired

RC4WD makes some upgraded driveshafts called "Punisher" drive shafts, you may want to check them out. Although, it sounds like your problem is that you have so much articulation that the drive shafts are extending too much, is that right? I know the punishers are much stronger because they are made of metal, but I would have to look up the length of the punishers to see if they are any longer...
Hi, this is a nice informative video I must say. I have a question, is this setup better (articulation wise) than a 3/4 link setup? not sure which way I want to go.
I haven't, but mine gets pretty close. I imagine you'll have to limit the travel just a bit to prevent that, or go with some upgraded drive shafts like the punishers, which you would probably have to do eventually anyway because I hear the plastic ones often break, although mine have been just fine.
Sorry I didn't see your comment. I had actually already upgraded the drive shaft on mine so I didn't have that issue. Was your problem resolved with a longer drive shaft?
Or buy 20 cents worth of O rings and install them on the leaf screws top and bottom. Your welcome to your wallet. And you have the added benefit of a circle symmetrically fitting both front and rear screws!
+The RC Cave (Jason) I know what they do, but it looks like they add roughly 10mm in height thats why I had to ask. :) I'll get mine soon, adding these to the shopping cart. Thanks!
Yeah, RC4WD stuff is insanely expensive. Check out Tower Hobbies and join their club. They stock RC4WD and you can get some coupons, which will help a little...
mrk107 . In Japan and other countries like England they call the Toyota pickup trucks Hilux until late 1995 . Here in the USA we called them just Toyota Pickups if the truck was an SR5 then we called them that . I know I owned 4 Toyota's trucks in my life time . The The last I bought was in 1995 . The New model . It was the first Toyota truck that actually have a name for the first time here in the states . This was my last new Toyota I bought and it was the first Toyota Tacoma . All other models before that was hilux or just Toyota . I notest on Craigslist that people are starting to call earlier models Tacoma's when they are not Tacoma's . This sort of pisses me off when people do this . In late 1995 was the first year for the SE 2200 to end and the beginning of the RE2400 engine . The RE2400 had a lot more power than the RE2200 and with the 5 speed trans it got upwards of 30 MPG . My Tacoma got 32 MPG and it was 2wd with the 5 speed . My wife and I put almost 300.000 miles on that truck in 21 years we owned it and only replaced tires Brakes pads , clutch kit . Batt , and a starter . That was it . Best truck we had ever owned . Then Toyota made them bigger and taller and that sucked .because when they did that the MPG went down the drain to about 25 MPG . I am just letting people know the history of the Toyota truck and the Tacoma truck .

purchasing a TF2 myself soon as well, im excited to get it ! ive owned scx10 and a wraith always wanted a more scale realistic truck

Great mod. I'll get those on order for my Marlin asap. You have my like and sub. Thanks brother.
Great vid! But Running z boxes backwards is no good as they'll want to swing the leaves in the wrong direction
I didn't realize that, thanks very much for the feedback
Great upgrades and mods bro!
MIDWID!
I have a k5 blazer and i put the z boxes on the front and back
Nice 👍

Hi just curious I have the 1/24th scale trail finder 2 and I love to do something like this, i was just wondering if there's any sort of mods like this for the smaller rig
I don't think RC4WD makes these for the smaller version...
Did you have to get longer driveshafts for yours? After the zbox n shackles? If so what did you get?
Will these work with the lwb version
How come no one in the RC world knows how revolver shackles are supposed to work?
All you have done here is made a rigid shackle lift. The shackles are supposed to be
collapsed on them selves, then open up when flexing, thus maintaining stock ride height.
Sorry for coming across like a ºIº ...
maybe a little experimentation is in order.
Keep up the good vids!
I have a question, if I want to put these on my tf2 the revolver shackles are completely different from the z-boxes? The RC Cave thanks so much I'm 13 and am getting into the hobby.
The RC Cave also, on my tf2 I had to replace both of the drive shafts with metal ones, did you have this problem?
The RC Cave I also know that you can take leaf springs out to give it more flex but don't know how many to take out. Have you done this? I was thinking of just doing the main link and the smallest one, thanks.
Thanks you've been great help to me
Cool thanks
Are you having any problems with your drive shafts popping out under articulation ??? I purchased this complete set and I'm having problems now.
Sorry I didn't see your comment. I had actually already upgraded the drive shaft on mine so I didn't have that problem. Maybe try a longer drive shaft?
Quality video. Nice job!
Great video and nice upgrades.
Cool explanation! Well done!

Thank you sir..i will do..:-)
Are you running the shock springs with that setup
Hi Victor, yes I am running the stock shock springs. It works great, but this one mostly just lives on my shelf...
cool vid my friend:)
Could I just run the shackles in the front and back and just not do z boxes at all?
I'm pretty sure you could, can't see why not as long as there is good tire clearance
Jason, with the revolver and the z boxes up front do you notice any sloppy steering?
I have this problem bro
Looks like a must do upgrade for these!

They work good have this setup on my blazer
The Upgrade works very good👍
after installing the zbox on the back my drive shaft falls off. what drive shaft would you recommend
Great video ....question: 4 shackles and 4 Z boxes In total ?
2 of each
I followed the instructions in this video to install teraflex in the front area but the steering is slipping somebody help me? :(
Sorry to hear that. What you you mean by slipping, is the steering linkage hitting something?
Yes :(
Maybe need more OZ on my servo?
You did the Xboxes and shackles on the front?
were the internal springs in the shocks removed?
Question did you have to change your front and rear driveshaft ? I just did the rear lift on it and my driveshaft keeps coming off ?
I didn't have to on mine. I think the punisher drive shafts are a worthwhile upgrade if you need new ones. but I'm not sure if they're longer...
sixtochino have you solved your problem? if so what did u do?
Hi, this is a nice informative video I must say. I have a question, is this setup better (articulation wise) than a 3/4 link setup? not sure which way I want to go.
The RC Cave Oh I see, I think I'll stay with leaf springs. Thank you for the input.
The RC Cave Thank you, hope to see more of your videos.
Can these be used on a bruiser, or mountaineer?
Looks very nice, cool vid
Hi,I just got mine,my rear shaft keeps slipping out, do i need a longer shaft? Where could i get one. HELP PLEASE
Yes longer shaft
So I just installed the z boxes in the front and my drive shaft slips out. Did you run into this problem
I haven't, but mine gets pretty close. I imagine you'll have to limit the travel just a bit to prevent that, or go with some upgraded drive shafts like the punishers, which you would probably have to do eventually anyway because I hear the plastic ones often break, although mine have been just fine.
Garrett Williams longer drive shaft I think I went with punisher for the wraith
Can't find em at rc4wd. can you give me the part numbers for them,.Thanks
Wow! it's like 50$ cheaper at RC4WD than on amazon. dang.
The revolver shackels are like 100$ cheaper at RC4WD. than on amazon.
Oh yea forgot about tower hobbies thanks. and yep your right. I looked up Teraflex it's self my bad it was there that the price was high.
Thanks for the information about tf2
You are welcome, thanks a lot for watching, I appreciate your support!
awesome video!!
I just tried this on my 4Runner, stick drive shaft isn’t long enough?? Did u have the same problem
You will need to get a longer drive shaft if you do a lift or more articulation
Sorry I didn't see your comment. I had actually already upgraded the drive shaft on mine so I didn't have that issue. Was your problem resolved with a longer drive shaft?
Or buy 20 cents worth of O rings and install them on the leaf screws top and bottom. Your welcome to your wallet. And you have the added benefit of a circle symmetrically fitting both front and rear screws!
bonita camioneta
dude that is so sweet!..
Love what you did! I'm subbing. Gotta do that to my new (first) tf2.
Watch the video too from "Race730" he makes with longer shocks and this set up a unbelievebale articulation!

Wow nice
Thanks a lot my friend, I really appreciate it!
How much does these lift the truck?
+The RC Cave (Jason) I know what they do, but it looks like they add roughly 10mm in height thats why I had to ask. :) I'll get mine soon, adding these to the shopping cart. Thanks!
I had the exact same truck but real
$70 just for the shackles ? Don’t think so
Yeah, RC4WD stuff is insanely expensive. Check out Tower Hobbies and join their club. They stock RC4WD and you can get some coupons, which will help a little...
Thumbs up) I subbed)
That's not a trail finder. that's a early 80's Toyota Tacoma.
Jeff Mullinix So true. I had a lifted 94 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab with the V6. It was reliable and looked good too.
👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot 😃
