      Ford "Performance White" is basically the same quality as Walmart rattlecans. (i have an 08 police interceptor). almost every one i see on the road has paint peeling and chipping in the same places. i dont know why. if i had to guess, its that they use less overcoat (if any at all) to make it easier to remove the police decals before they get sent to auction. the end result is a sort of semi-gloss white that isnt hard to reproduce on a budget.

      @@bluv6430 Supervisor, Chiefs Duty and Watch Officers here in my area of Pennsylvania have cloth upholstered seats and no partician between the front and rear seats as they don't transport subjects in custody.
      Now the majority of radio units have hard shell enclosed covers over the rear seats to eliminate seems and crevices that subjects in custody may try to hide contraband in.
      I was a police officer and in spite of pat downs some contraband can be missed especially in underwear and body cavities, the subjects who have been arrested before become wise and hide their hidden items they don't want found on them down between the bench and seat back and unless you sweep inside the seats after every transport you don't know which subjects had it in their possession at the end of your shift.
      Plus if they vomit or urinate the fluids can't get under the seats with the enclosure covering it.

      I like it. If you ever travel to southern WV, western VA, or east TN it sounds normal to me. If you go south of that, people actually sound less "southern" than they do in that area. (I live about 4 hours north of beckley, WV. No southern accents here, travel south 4 hours and it's as southern as you'll ever hear).
      That region is just about the friendliest place you'll ever find, from there over to nashville. You come from the north, and wonder if people ask you how your day is going (people you've never met before), what's the catch? What do they want out of me? Someone strikes up a conversation like that north of the Mason Dixon line, they're usually going to ask you if you can spare some money for them in the next sentence.

The fact that he has the whole car so well kept, and kept as a labor of love, as well as the photo of his grandpa, and his grandpa's truck kept in the trunk door, is absolutely fantastic. It's a labor of love, as a tribute, from someone he loves. That's what being a family is all about. He's also going to college, living life, reaching for his dreams... that's a good guy right there. I've also heard that those P-71's are a lot of fun to play around with, and you can get a ton of horsepower, performance, and fun, out of those easy to work on, 4.6 V8's in that big, open engine compartment. It’s very sweet that you keep your Grandpa’s picture in the car. Newer cars that rely on touch/electrical-tech systems are fantastic until they give you trouble. I’m not looking to impress anyone. I just appreciate a solid built vehicle that uses mechanical controls and has a lot of room under the hood. Most of these newer cars make it nearly impossible to replace simple consumable parts like belts and such. I think they just want to discourage you from doing the work yourself so you bring it in and pay out the wazoo for labor. I really like this Crown Vic. I’m
    keeping my eye out for the interceptor variant for sure.

      @incub8 5 років тому

      Yes, and one thing that's cool is if you have an alarm installed, some have an optional normally closed relay switch that will go "open" when the alarm activates. I placed that NC switch in line with that inertia switch so that if my car was stolen (and alarm activated), it would just go a block or so since the fuel pump would be shut off and the thief would end up stalled. I figure it was easier than doing an ignition cut-off.

    You have to be very careful picking the car. These cars are driven all day long day after day under the worst type of driving conditions. (stop and go city traffic) They are driven hard. Unless you are ready to do the transmission like this guy did, and possibly an engine rebuild, you are in for a lot of expensive problems. They don't get rid of "good" police cars, they get rid of the ones that have too much wrong to justify the cost of repair.

    • @southernNCfamily
      @southernNCfamily 5 років тому +19

      Hahaa. While that would be good for tax payers, most services "retire" a car after a set number of miles or years in service. Regardless of condition. I've been in public service 12 years. I'd say depending on city/state you live in. 75% of these cars last years after service. Thus the reason most of them end up as taxis.

    • @SGobuck
      @SGobuck 5 років тому +8

      Not all of them get used as patrol cars. A lot sit near the courthouse and seldom get driven. Some end up as detective cars. Some have street appearance packages and aren't blacked out with spotlights on the door pillars.
      You do have to watch those composite intake manifolds, but for the most part these things are figuratively bullet proof

    • @nunya9555
      @nunya9555 5 років тому +3

    • @SargentandGreenLeaf
      @SargentandGreenLeaf 5 років тому +5

      They get rid of them based on the budget allocated to the car for repairs and maintenance, if it's a 75,000 budget then for example the car can get a new transmission and new engine the year before, and be at 74,500 budget and now it needs a new radiator which would push it over the 75,000 allocated budget, and the repair would be rejected, and the cop car need to be sold immediately, say it was at 74,800 of the budget used, and it needed a new right front tire, that would push the limit of the budget for the car, causing it the need to be sold, because if the cop car was continued to be used and the tire blows out , then the city can be liable for death and damage if the cop car hits someone, because they didn't maintain the tire, and the paperwork says you must maintain the vehicle but not exceed the budget, would matter nothing that you had put a new engine and transmission theweek before, theyd sell it anyways, trust me, I'm correct

    I like Crown Vics, good material to build on. It's the best car for a full frame with rear wheel drive and rack and pinion steering.
    Every time I see one on Craigslist for sale with no title I buy it for peanuts. I only keep the frame, suspension, and drivetrain.

    Those rims are so handsome. I like your tastes. I also like the center console and the aftermarket radio setup. Congrats on owning one of the last of the V8 Interceptors! Your gramps would be proud dude! Who needs an SN-95 if you could easily get 2 more doors for way cheaper and with practically the same motor, just tuned for police use and cruising, eh? God bless ya!
