Spectre Custom Gunbarrel Sequence [After Effects]

- To date none of the Daniel Craig Bond films have done the iconic Gunbarrel sequence correctly. They're either too quick, have a badly textured gunbarrel, have a 2D gunbarrel or Craig is waving the gun around during his walk when it is supposed to be hidden. The last two especially apply to the version seen in Spectre. I wanted to have a go at creating a modern version of the sequence from scratch in After Effects.
The first thing I did was digitally remove Craig's right arm during the walk on to make it look as if it is by his side, like it is in all the previous gunbarrel sequences. The gunbarrel itself was about 2-3 days of work. It was difficult to get the movement and 3D style distortions to look good but I think I got there in the end. It was also important to me that the gunbarrel opened up to the opening scene rather than some pretentious text. The one thing I wanted to keep from the Spectre opening was when the gunbarrel darkens and Craig becomes a silhouette as I thought it was a nice addition to the sequence.
Overall I am very happy with how this turned out and I hope you enjoy it.
Small little adjustments made huge results. This is infinitely better than the original. Not showing the gun during the walk, the swaying of the gunbarrel when the blood drops and transitioning into the first scene. This is how it’s meant to be.
I really liked the Spectre gunbarrel because, although I hated the fact he swings the walther, at least it finally returned at the start and overall good, but this is the BEST gunbarrel EVER
I still don’t get why Spectre’s gunbarrel didn’t transition straight into the opening shot of the film. It would’ve made for a great gunbarrel as the first 2/3 minutes of the film all takes place as one long take
GamingAndStuff I have a theory...and I could be wrong. But, one of two things might have happened.
1. Maybe they lost the original files they had for the Brosnan gunbarrel sequence.
OR...
2. They had the original files, were planning to use them, but decided that they didn't want to offend people who hadn't gotten the taste of the Brosnan films (or at least the ones that were bad) out of their mouths, and they thought using a reflective gunbarrel was too soon. That's my two cents.
@@cinemagraphic6324 “lost the original files”… bitch, it’s a movie from ‘95, I don’t think you know how movies are made, lmao
Because they wanted that pretentious “The dead are alive” title card in there, even though it has no (almost) bearing on the plot.
Sam Mendes, innit. Wrong person for the job.
I didn't realize how bad it was until you redid it. As a James Bond fan, nicely done!
Indeed very nicely done!
Yeah. I didn't realize how bad it was until now. I had actually thought it was my favorite, but this improves it so much.
They never quite get it right on Craig’s era. I forgive Casino Royale fr trying something else. This one had the best gunbarrel rifling and is overall the nearest to a proper one that Craig has had. Your adjustment makes a tremendous improvement I think.
I really loved the Casino Royale one, it worked well in my opinion.
All of them shouldve been like Casino Royale for Craig. It would add some flavor to his run.
The casino royale one was fucking amazing.
Casino Royale was amazing and it kinda makes sense since canonically (in tbe books) it's Bonds first ever mission and he still wasn't a MI6 agent. Quantum got a nice walk but awful music and design and way too fast. Skyfall did it pretty good, decent music, good walk and best design ever, but it was at the end and the blood dripped too fast, still pretty good. Spectre finally again at the start, best Bond music ever, great walk but he swings his weapon, the gunbarrel doesn't move and it doesn't transition in the movie. No time to die amazinf music, decent walk and design, but no blood tho I can understand it. Craig really had the potential to beat Brosnan in the gunbarrels but he got really unlucky
Definitely better than the original
I don't know how you removed Bond's shooting arm as he walks along to avoid showing his gun before he shoots, but well done. Let's hope they do something like this for the next film. And I hope they continue having the gunbarrel sequence back at the very start of the film where it belongs unlike Craig's first three Bond films (even though the Casino Royale opening made sense).
Andrew Chapman I guess he added a mask in the color of the background and some keyframes to move it along Craig’s walking to cover the arm:) Much more impressive is the light reflection effect imo. That looks highly professional; great work from the guy who created this!
@@MJTributeChannel2040 The light reflection effect is from the Pierce Brosnan films, so he probably used that as a basis, at least.
@@MJTributeChannel2040 Thankfully, the background is white so it's a lot easier to do than it otherwise could be.
I like what you did with this sequence. It always bothered me that his gun arm was swaying. And the barrel opening into the scene reminded me of past Bond movies! Great job!
My thoughts as well. That’s what I loved about Brosnan that he didn’t sway his weapon arm so that his enemy never saw the gun coming.
@@EdLlewelyn Not just Brosnan, every Bond did that. Even Craig himself in Quantum and Skyfall gunbarrels. I don't know what happened here.
I liked that the white pattern in Pierce Brosman's gunbarrels were in 3d and also had the shape of severall countries. But Spectre decided to use the 2d texture, from the Licence to Kill gunbarrel.
Excellent job! This is how it should’ve been. I also liked how, maybe not on purpose, it zoomed in on a the giant skull that is reminiscent of the old Bond that wears hats and smokes.
Thank you for this, lord I don't know how the directors have gotten it wrong in every Craig movie.
Better than the original!
This is absolutely perfect for Craig's Bond! If we get anything even close to this in No Time To Die, we'll finally get a great traditional gun barrel for Craig and considering its his last outing as Bond, he deserves it
No Time To Die's didn't even have blood
@@callummclelland7959 But there was a reason for that, as is seen later in the movie.
@@callummclelland7959 But he finally tried not to show his weapon
WAY BETTER THAN THE ACTUAL VERSION. Bond’s fun shouldn’t be seen and they should’ve kept the 3D gunbarrel.
I miss it being at the start! This looks so much better!
I love the subtle liquid wave effect the blood has. That's such a mindblowingly great detail you added.
I was thinking of doing this very thing, but glad someone else did the work instead! SOOO much better. Can not figure out how they screwed this up.
I think it was Sam Mendes fault (does he hates Gunbarrels ? I don't know, but in SF it wouldn't ruined its first sequence - as he said, back in 2012 - if SF'Gb was fading away or finishing in a FRWL/GF style) but B. Broccoli & M; Wilson also gave their blessing... and sometimes I wonder if they still care about the artistics trademarks (see the Craig era's posters for instance)...
this is the best one on youtube
Your version is the best
This is the way bond needs to be
Very nice! The one complaint I had about the Spectre gunbarrel was how he was all casual like with his gun. Glad you took care of that.
This! This was the original intention in the script I read.... nicely done!
It’s like Brosnan’s gunbarrel sequences.
RTV brosnans will always be better
Ok seriously, I think this version is sooooo much better than the actual film
Best spectre gunbarrel recreation out there
Wow, you did everything correct! Hid his gun-arm properly, reflection in the gunbarrel etc. nicely done!
Great job. I love the circle becoming the first scene in particular.
So much better, that whole "The Dead are alive," thing really wasn't important in the opening, I want to see Cary Fukunaga do it this way for the opening of No Time to Die so we can at least have one correct opening with Daniel Craig
If this is what it looked like in the film, it would’ve been regarded as one of the best gunbarells in the series
Perfect! This is the way it should always have been, from the beginning! I never accepted this intention of the producers to reject the classic gunbarrel when the "Craig era" started ... I was very happy with the return of the gunbarrel at the beginning of Specter, although it was not a complete return. Now, your edition, that was a tribute of respect!!!
I didn't have a problem with the 2d gunbarrel in Spectre, since that's how it looked before GoldenEye.
That should have been in the movie 1000%
Very good edit a lot better then film version
super waaaayyy better is this sequence!! excellent job
Fuck yes. I don't know why they found it so hard not to use a static image. What Kleinman did for the Brosnan gunbarrel of having it be a fluent animation looks soo much better.
that is pure gold right there
Great job, you made the gunbarrel design better and you hid his arm, great job, the only two details that made me dislike this gunbarrel are now gone
GOD man! This was EPIC! That's how every Craig's movie should begin! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! I LOVED IT!
just 1000x better
This is great. I thought I was the only one who was bothered by Bond swinging his gun around in the original. Well done!
Definitely much better now that you have corrected it!
This would’ve been epic if they even added the moving barrel and started the movie like this
THIS. So well done, my God.
Shocking, positively shocking.
Amazing!! This is a much better transition from Gunbarrel to the Movie than the actual movie. That ridiculous "The Dead Walk" type message appearing after the gunbarrel just felt out of place. It's great to see that gone in this video.
Anyone else notice that the gun’s muzzle flash was noticeably absent in the original and was restored here? Very nice detail.
I think your gunbarrel has a case for best of all time! This is great!
Very Brosnan-esque; absolutely love it!
I like the transition to the movie, but honestly have no problem with seeing the gun in the original version, it's not like the audience think he's unarmed... Still, the flawless amendment you applied to that is impressive nonetheless :)
Much better!!
Yours is infinitely better! Good work!
The producers need to fix Daniel Craig's last 4 movies with this barell
The way it should have been done!!!!
Much better!
If this was what it was in the movie it would have been my favorite.
Much better. Good work.
I was actually genuinely surprised to see the Gunbarrel back at the beginning of the film for the first time in 13 years, but I was disappointed with how bad it looked
It looked good until the needless text, and apart from the visible gun arm. The previous two films had crap looking rifling
Beautiful . Goes with Specters Aesthetics soo well
Great work, the great music didn't deserve a very bad gunbarrel sequence!
Very well done!
So perfect
Awesome! You should do this for Casino Royale as well. I liked the one in Casino Royale but it’d be interesting to see
This is how the gunbarrel should have been. Nice job
This is how James Bond's gunbarrel should be
This is absolutely fantastic! Amazing job!
This is fantastic
I like both to be honest
Great job. I struggle to understand how they're still getting things wrong with the latest Bond films. They should hire you. You're doing a better job than the official VFX team!
They should've hired you.
I too would be interested in how this was accomplished.
This is so much better!
Speechless and outstanding!
This would have been the best gunbarrel, if this was the one put-up in the final release.
perfect.
Snappy and deadly.
Brilliant job
Outstanding!
That pose is 100x times better than Skyfall, arguably this is my favorite gunbarrel post out of all Bonds.
I thought Daniel Craig's pose here looks perfect. Even better than NTTD. If only he hid his gun before shooting.
This really is amazing! Please do a VE Breakdown or Tutorial!
Nice!
This is incredible, well done
Amazing. Very well made :3
love it! The gunbarrel looked awful in Spectre, but this was way better!
You improved on it so much
Send this to Calvin Dyson immediately!
You've done an excellent job here mate! Awesome!
I dont why they kept fucking up the gunbarrel sequences with Daniel Craig. You can argue that the one in Casino Royale implies that James Bond was just a rookie then, but for the most part, if it ain't broke, dont fix it.
Wow, wasn't that easy Sam?!
SAM?!
this should be the one !
Calvin Dyson is gonna like this
Top work. That right hand really annoyed me haha!
Perfection
The one thing I do like about the spectre version is the the classic opening showing the gun barrel itself. The rest your version has in spades
Yes, I like your version way better!!😊
It's gorgeous
So clean and well done 😁
Well done sir!
Great Job! Amazing!
I would love to see something like this in the Gunbarrel or No Time To Die that could be a reference to the Brosnan Gunbarrels
Amazing!
