In this video one example been solved to find the unknown parameters used in soil mechanics.
"A wet soil sample has a mass of 2.290kg and a volume of 0.0015 cubic meter. After being completely dried in an oven, the mass of soil sample is reduced to 2.035kg. The value of Specific gravity for the soil sample is 2.68. Determine the bulk density, unit weight, water content, void ratio, Porosity, Degree of saturation and Air content.
Bulk density is the ratio of total mass divided by total volume.
Unit weight is the ratio of total weight divided by total volume.

The formula he used is correct for gravimetric water content; the most commonly used water content.
