Oh this was marvellous, and I am so in agreement regarding 'plastic', and 'starting at home'. We have recently bought a house, and the discussion is entirely around how to manage our energy, ground water, compostable waste, and 'bugs'. A 'home' is not just a place to exist, it is a place to foster those things you believe in. A good home both protects, and provides growth, for those who live in it - which just highlights the plight of those who are 'housing insecure' - which is a tragedy, especially for the young.

I've never been able to get my head around astro-physics.......I have read the first chapter of Stephen Hawking's 'Brief History of Time' about 20 times and never get any further! Argh, brain pain! Thank goodness for Meerkat poo.....that is something I can understand! Have a fabulous week chaps. :-)

It's weird... Paul is really good at maths, but he has issues around visualising some of the cosmological theories. I'm terrible at maths, but as a child I was glued to astronomy books and my telescope, so my ability to visualise the concepts is quite deep rooted even though the equations and numbers are well beyond my grasp. I love it! Enjoy your week too!

When I was a child in Arizona, there was a contest to come with a name for this cartoon cactus 🌵, as part of a reducing litter campion. I can’t remember the name I sent in, but I remember the winning name was Wild Bill Pickup. And I was really mad because I thought it was such a dumb name. I hadn’t thought of this in so long, but your conversation about a litter campaign when you when kids brought it back. Hoping your week has much joy. 😊

Cheeky Prince! Are you sowing direct or in lil pots? I think I'll get mine started in the greenhouse this week! Hanwell Zoo sounds a little like the sanctuary by us that had the fire - sadly one half of the meerkat couple died, as did a giant tortoise ( I know - it's ridiculous in the grand scheme of things but I did shed a tear or two ...) We have asked them about their poo (!) but it gets recycled by the adjacent garden centre. The biggest moaner I've EVER known - a woman I had the misfortune to work alongside for eight years - was also the one who insisted it wasn't 'worth' doing anything about anything as nothing ever changed. Oh the irony!! Anyhow great chat and off to snoop around your upstairs bit!!

There is an area we walk where people are really good about picking up after their dogs, however they leave the bag with the poo next to a post. ???? One day there was a lady walking along this very long path who had a bag and she was picking up these little plastic bags of dog poo, I asked her if she was part of a group that does that as a service in that area and she said, "No." she was doing it just because. I will never understand people who pick up after their dogs but leave a plastic bag behind full of poo. This lady was taking action. I let her know it was appreciated.

This made me chuckle throughout. So many great updates as well. We try to be neighborly about picking up rubbish but I sometimes will wait to see if others will pick up their own rubbish a day or so. We are pretty good about picking up in our front yard but are apt to be less tidy in the back yard. LOL There is always more Richard! 🎋🎋🎋🌿🌿🌿🍀🍀🍀🍀🌴🌴🌴🌻🌻🌼🌷🌼🌻🌷

Good discussion, v much enjoyed it. I’m enjoying seeing my bins emptier as time progresses. This morning my orange pulp from the juicer, egg boxes and shells, loo roll holders and loose tea have all been chopped up and composted. It also disappears within a week. it’s quite a nice ritual doing it and I’m
old enough not to care what my nosey neighbours think ☀️

I'm still tired from yesterday's clean up at our local park by the river.
About 20 of us showed up, most with gas mowers and strimmers. I brought a rake, as my cutting tools are electric, and there's no electricity there to plug into. We burned the dried grass and leaves.
After several hours, we were served pizza and beverages. I stuck to Pepsi this time.
Two weeks ago, we did the village clean up. Hot dogs, with a choice of beer, cider or pop. I had a cider. We filled a pick-up truck with garbage bags. The dump takes the clean up bags for free.
Lots of hands made the work go quicker.
Now, if only I could get a couple of armies to do my yard and house. So much to do, so little me.

Cooking lunch in Toronto. Periodic bursts of laughter.
    You two are so naughty.
On the disgusting topic of disgusting trash: I was clearing dead brush from an
area behind the perimeter fence of the allotments this morning until ice pellets
accelerating from the sky convinced me it would be a good idea to go home.
I walked out along the new paved bike trail. We are applying for a grant to plant
a pollinator garden in this area which now that the snow has melted looks rather large!
At least 45 feet by 14 - 15 feet. I did clear 12 by 12 today and stacked the trash.
I was thinking if this would be England I could eventually make a big bonfire. Over
here that would score me a lot of noisy fire trucks and a big juicy hefty fine. Maybe
even a psych evaluation to check for pyromaniacal tendencies. It's Toronto ya know...
    they pathologize everything over here.
Someone(s) are scooping their dog(s)' poops into those very colourful plastic bags
and flinging them onto the trees. So it's like a very shitty Christmas in the decor department.
WTF? Seriously. Jerks will do things when they know that no one can
see. I am not going to undecorate the trees even though I can see them. No.
There is one of these colourful almost fluorescent bags of poop in the area I am clearing. Have not
got to it yet and will be using instruments with long handles.
    Not moaning. Just reporting.
I think a member of our group who loves to take pictures with her kickass digital camera
should send these decorative tree images to the city counsellor's office. Not that I think anyone
can do anything about it. Not really. Signs are not a deterent. We already have signs at the
allotments but people come in when they are not supposed to
and don't even bother to pick up after the dogs. It's horrible.
Just in case you don't realize this, Toronto is a world class city. Yes, definitely. Hm.

In our little village ppl will complain about your bit of kerbstone not being weeded properly rather than having picked up plastic litter from the accidentally ripped open plastic recycling sacks on recycling pickup day. So much to plastic blindness, even in a small community. I have sown lobelia and cosmea in our kerbstone just last week, let's see how ppl will find that :D We had all the time the moment the Kyoto treaty was signed. If all had bloody well stuck to it, we would not have the problems now. I am soo ticked off.
I so love the image of the singularity and I was not disappointed. Imagine, we look back into the past, it might have already changed its shape, its colour, its size; and we do not know about it.
The other 27 countries do not know about Halloween and Guy Fawkes Day, they do not celebrate these. As most European countries are still Roman Catholic influenced they rather celebrate 1st November which is All Hallow (Remembrance of all Dead) and 11th November which is Martinmas/Saint Martin. The first is a bank holiday so they wanted to make sure that we all can have a lie in from drinking the night before because of Brexit.

Hooray for the Black Hole mention Richard! For Paul ;) : ua-cam.com/video/13qDxyJRCjo/v-deo.html (it's the institute where my partner works (on the tiny detector in the telescopes)). And as far as I understand, why they didn't do it before is because technology and (hu)man nature wasn't that far to be able to work together. They worked hard on improving the telescopes to be able to work together. And they needed to work together to 'photograph' the far away black hole (with many telescopes pretending being one strong big one) as 'our' nearer black hole is difficult to 'photograph' as we are in a flattish ring and between us and the black hole there are many other things (like Richard said). But I'm also not a scientist! Nevertheless very exciting. :)
