  • My old Braun 340 shaver is still working fine apart from tired NiMh rechargeable batteries.
    Let's tear it down - replace the batteries and reassemble it.

    Thank you for the video! Just repaired my 340, if you tear the head completely apart, the trimmer doesn't need to get removed. Screws are all torx8. I've now Varta 1600 mAH in lets see how long they last...

      Thanks for the comment. I found out too late you don't need to take the trimmer off and bent the trimmer spring on my spare one. I did end up using a torx bit - what a hack! My batteries are still going strong so I'm sure yours will be fine.

    Excellent video, many thanks. I combined this with another vid showing how to re-insert the clipper drive by dismantling the head, inserting the white plastic internal part with the pin, then re-assembling the head. Either way, it's fiddly and there's a great chance for these small bits to break if you are unlucky enough. Mines's now charging and this shaver is still better than the Remington thing I bought 6 months ago which sounds like a chainsaw and keeps snagging my moustache!

    Thanks a lot for this help. I have had some sweat on my back, but, one hour later, my shaver works again for a new life. The 2 first screw need a TORX 9x40 screw-driver. I have got one.

      Well done. I tried getting the torx screws out with a small flat bladed screwdriver but it just didn't work.

    I think the O ring is one of two that fit around the posts of the top part where the two screws go down which attach the top part to the main body.

      Thanks, that make sense. I'm going to have a look at the other shaver pretty soon (the one that doesn't work) so I'll be able to confirm this.

    I ordered the proper batteries for my 3040s . They were about £11 for 2 but they have them tabs on the side to stop them falling out . I've had the original one's in it for must be 10 years and the shaver is still £50 to buy down from £119 so £11 is a worthwhile price to make it new again.

      With the benefit of hind site I would do the same. Using the Tripplikit Super Battery charger I measured a good one that I took out and found they are very low internal resistance. This is best for providing the high current required for the motor. Also, as you say, they don't fall out.

    Great video. Thank you! I took my Braun 340s-4 apart to make sure I was ordering the correct batteries, realized there was a 5 day delivery, so decided to re-assemble and use it as-is until the new batteries came it, but would you believe one of the torx screws at the top snapped just as I was tightening it?!!! There appears to be enough of the screw protruding that I may be able to remove it with plyers, but now where the heck do I get a replacement screw???

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  Рік тому

      Annoying that one of the screws snapped off on you. Thankfully it didn't happen to me so I'm not sure where you'd get another one. I can't remember exactly what kind of screw it is but the first place I'd look is eBay.

    The trimmer was the reason I was saving the shaver and I can’t see how to reattach it! X-D
    Edit:
    Never mind. Surprisingly simple, if fiddly. There’s another teeny tiny hole in the shaver itself that the spring needs to fit into. Then you line up the sticky-uppy bits on the shaver to the grooves in the trimmer and slide them back in.

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes very fiddly. I managed to damage the spring on one of mine so the trimmer doesn't slide up and down very well. It still works though if I'm patient with it.

    I ran into this weird problem when replacing the batteries, The LED on the board blinked red and the motor was constantly running. I noticed that the contacts on the replacement batteries are a abit longer than the old original Braun batteries, so there might be a problem there. (A short maybe?)

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  4 місяці тому +1

      I had to "adjust" the battery contacts to get standard AAs to fit. Also, I have another identical shaver on the boat. Changed the batteries in that and it was acting strange (can't quite remember how). In the end I found that one of the batteries I had put in was duff. Something to check?

    • @xn0gaming
      @xn0gaming 4 місяці тому

      @@TripplikitElectronics The batteries were brandnew, so I guess its unlikely they were damaged or unuaable. I did notice a faint burnt smell coming from the board, so I think there might be a damaged component.

    If you installed the head before the rubber grip, all you need to do is loosen the upper screws for 1-2 millimeters and shift the head upwards. The rubber grip will pop into place with a gentle pressure. Fasten the screws then and all will still work fine.

    Today (after 29 days) I first time had to re charge (took some 2 hours). The 1600mAh seem to be double of the original cells. They made 16 days when new as far as I remember. In ebay you can find cells with the pin which directly fit into the the shaver (and several other models from Braun as well). I used standard AA cells plus a M6 brass washer (outer diameter perfectly matches the AA diameter) to increase contact pressure.

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  2 роки тому

      I'm sure mine hasn't kept going as long as yours despite having bigger capacity batteries in it - I wonder why. Replacement original batteries are available but very expensive - much cheaper to adapt a standard AA. The M6 washer is a good idea - better than bending the tabs on the battery holder as I did!

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  2 роки тому

      I put Lloytron AA NiMh 2700mAh rechargeables in. Any good quality AA NiMh rechargeables would be fine. The larger the capacity - the longer you can go between charges.

    I just need a confirmation : i've found two types of battery dimensions, what are exactly the length needed ? 50mm or 44mm ?

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  Рік тому

      I used standard AA rechargables which are 50mm long. The originals were the same size but with a raised metal "tab" on each end so I had to bend the battery holder slightly.

    Thanks for the video and explanation. With your help I changed the batteries of my Barun S3 with two Panasonic Eneloop AA Ni-MH batteries. Now the charging time is less than one hour, but the shaver can only work about 5 minutes. Has somebody the same problem? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    • @TripplikitElectronics
      @TripplikitElectronics  2 роки тому +1

      Personally I have had no experience with these batteries. I've had a quick look but haven't found any detailed specifications on them. Maybe the shaver charging circuit thinks they're full when they're only partially charged. You might try some "conventional" NiMh batteries for comparison.

      @@TripplikitElectronics Thanks for the help. I changed the expensive Panasonic Eneloop with some cheap chinese batteries and fixed them with some tape on the board, now the problem is gone, it can last at least 20 minutes. In one sentence, expensive doesn't mean good, choose the right one!

    YOOTUBER : WATCH THIS VIDEO AT 20:00 BEFORE YOU COPY TRIPP'S MISTAKE.
    Nice tips, worked for me and good try but hey, must say i'm feeling rather smug as I ended up putting everything back in order it came off ;-)
    People who watch and follow this video to the letter will simply copy your errors.
    Why not take this video down , do it again and get it right? At the very least put a warning in the title that this clip MUST be watched through before commencing work?
    I believe the o ring you have left over comes from the inner side of cowling removed at 3.35
    also my machine also had only the two screws holding the battery cover so I think its a standard thing.
    I found standard rechargeable AA size 2500mAh batteries work fine with a minimal tweak of the contacts.
    Cheers!

      When I do a video like this I prefer to show how a real person takes it apart (including sometimes getting it wrong) rather than an 5 minute expert "how to" video. I find these inevitably skip over something they think is obvious but is absolutely not obvious to me.
      Having said that, you are right and I think I should make clearer at the start of the video and in the description that you should not always follow exactly what I do. I might also try putting some text on the screen, during the video, when I am not doing it exactly correctly.
