I first heard this song on the radio in 1975, I was 15 years old. Every time I hear it’s like a Time Machine that takes me back to that very exact moment in my life. Thanks for the gift of time travel and rest in peace Marty🙏🏻
What an absolutely wonderful moment. The girl in front that we can't help but notice, is perhaps all of us. You look at this intimate setting, hear that gorgeous tenor voice delivering vocals right then and there, only a few feet away, that are now part of our neural tapestry (true for me), and you have one unforgettable powerful and emotional experience. There's a reason Marty Balin didn't like big arenas. This is just so sad.
I'm quite sure that is Cathie (sp?) Richardson who was with the group (vocals) after both Marty and Grace left. The guy at the table with her I have seen in interviews with band members. I think he was with the band at some point as well. His name is Dave or David. I did not make note of his last name.
@@gabriellestjames1691 cathie richardson sang w big brother and the holding company after Janis died but not w JA. This gal doesn't look anything like her
Meh, I liked Marty in the Airplane days with a half pint in his pocket and an attitude. The latter days Jerry Vail Vegas lounge act crooner routine-not so much.
It really wasn’t possible to truly recreate the studio version of this live, and 33 years later, to do it acoustically with people blabbering a few feet away, I think he did all right.
Marty here it is 2023 and your sultry sweet voice is still reaching out to new fans everywhere. Rest In Peace Marty, Thank You for all your AMAZING music ! Love IS THE MAGIC WORD ❤
What a magical moment in time, I would have loved to have been there. I respond to Miracles just like the woman in front--just something about that song. RIP Marty
Just one more of my life long favorites, from the first time I heard it on the radio in 75. I was only 8 years old lol. This is just one of those songs that only can be sung by the person who crafted it.
thank you for posting this. great quality and crowd. I could only imagine dining and having marty balin sing his tunes to the crowd. may he rest in piece. this was the best song about makin love.
I heard this song was about 7 or the 8 for the very first time at my wonderful grandparents house. A day I will always remember like it was yesterday! Love it!
So grateful for your music...I taped this for my Sis funeral in1976 along with a few more of yours ! I’m covered with goosebumps listening....this song is so beautiful and I wish I could have said this to you in person Marty***
My absolute favorite song. Hearing windmills, rainbows..burning love always Marty.. feeling the power so easy..love really is the answer..ain't nothin better Oh baby baby baby ..missin' you with sugar on it.. I'm still dreamin
I was 5 years old when I heard this song in my parents Monte Carlo and still this sone is still my favorite and yes I tear up because the love to loves have been Good bad ugly and heart break and yes love keeps this world together but too much heart break and hardly women love anymore yes I am in socal so if you lived in CA and Socal love is pretty much dead my I always try to keep love alive but it's turning dark and hanging onto strings but hail to Jefferson Air Plane and Starship and hope one day I can say I have a beautiful loving caring trustworthy woman till then it's pain suffering and holes of emptyness and if you have never felt this then please don't comment bs stuff thanks
One thing I love about the bay area is going out for dinner to z nice place and being surprised when you walk in to see a wonderful musician such as Marty singing
I know everyone loves the studio version. I do too. However, this version is just fine. Marty is what, mid 60's here? Still has a very good voice and considering the lack of a large group, they still manage to layer quite a bit here. I'm sure it sounded great to the audience. This isn't the best recording.
a band I had did a cover of this song and it was right at the edge of my range to sing so it's cool to see Marty sing it so effortlessly! whereas I had to struggle to hit the high notes :-) I always wished my vocal range was a little higher that would've made this song easier to perform! would've loved to've had the high range of Mickey Thomas! so we could've done "Fooled around and fell in love " one of my all time favorites.. With Mickey's high range I gotta think that doing "Miracles" would've been cake!
I could only find one live performance of him performing this song with Jefferson Starship back when it was a hit...anyone have a link to any other live performance? This is the greatest love song ever written and the original recording is so much better than this . . watching him sing it live when he was young and gorgeous is amazing
There’s a rock volume called The Summer of Love or something like that. Marty was at the center of putting a lot of the most notable concerts. He was a big player in making it all happen. He played to a very sparse crowd alongside the lead guitarist whose name I forget. I felt sorry for him. He deserved better. Met him briefly.
You can talk about this left and right. But the bottom line is that MB wrote one of the best classic rock songs of all time. An in this effort, this was never his ambition. When Jefferson Starship got huge, he was not amused with uber fame. More to com on this later.
I feel sorry for all of us that werent there and missed this.

If nothing else it is the ultimate baby-making song.

Agreed 100%.

The chubby guy with the beard claps the way i do: left over right.

Very respectable performance considering the circumstances yes

He wrote some dandy songs. This isn't one of them. Jesse Barish wrote it.

Even in a smaller gathering like this, it had to be a fun time because it was so intimate and people singing along.
This is my favorite song, ever.

What an awesome moment in time!
Marty nailing it live all the years later just shows how legendary he truly was

AWESOME. Thanks for posting this. Brilliant.
Wow! Vic Smith from Bodacious DF!
Gotta love the chutzpah..."I had a taste of the real world, when I went down on you" Thought he'd skirt that one. Woohoo!!!!
No doubt brother!! Every time me I heard that sound I always had that maniacal smile on my face as no one got the song like I did !! Hehe🤑
This is a song that def was missed by the censors at the time. Great sensual lyrics

Must be fun for Marty to watch people in the audience sing his song to him simultaneously.
I wish I'd been there too.. alone with him naked sharing a doobee

Wow. What I wouldn't give to have been in the audience.
Awesome.. Timeless 👍🇳🇿
Hi all, I got to see Marty and Grace in Jefferson Starship. Their vocals where "off the charts""... Night Ranger was 'lead in'
I like this because the lady sitting across from the fat guy is having so-o-o much fun

I wish i was there, Id do the backup right
legend plays then over the PA system, Smith party of 4 your table is ready...
That answers that question, Yes they can almost play it intoxicatingly.
♥️♥️♥️

Damn where was this? Looks sooo fun
Literally says it in the video description.
Always loved this song not the best but RIP Marty you are missed.👍

Was that Grace in the front row...with the white shirt ?
He looks so bored. Can't blame him. I loved him.
List ten. Listen to the chris moon group
California hipsters in their Dollar Store sandals. lol
Folk strummer Frank needs to learn the goddam chords.
Wish the audience would shut up. I came here to here Marty, not those out of tune dregs in the crowd!
Lady in the front row sang it better.
That over served woman in the very front is annoying
Just pick up the tempo a little bit... not feeling it Marty 😀👍
Yes quite slow. Would have liked it a bit faster. The lady made this video more exciting. Love many of Marty's songs.
My favourite Jefferson Starship song and Marty sounds amazing here
