Knight Solaire, sun of the God of Timber(sun, light) used this perfectly crafted iron sword as a demi-god. It scaled C in both str and dex. Its usefulness its in its simplicity and move-set, the scaling is only a plus. For those who knew about the Balder Swag Sword in Dark Souls 1, you know more than noobs how effective this weapon is. People who came into the souls series late wont know what we are talking about or wont at least appreciate this sword. I beat the game with just using this sword in Dark Souls 1 and I intend to for Dark Souls 2, just cause.
*THIS IS IMPORTANT PLEASE READ* This tip is mainly for newbies. *Even if you are not in the Heirs to the Sun covenant*, you will still get a Sunlight Medal for summoning a phantom of that covenant, this means you should always ALWAYS, summon a sunbro, as down the line, it will be helping you a lot. :)
PvP is a disaster this time out. I'm nearly finished NG+ and I've been invaded by 1 red phantom and 1 blue phantom. Yet I can't set foot in Grave of Saints, Doors of Pharos or either Belfry while online. I get invaded so often it would take six hours to get through the area. Plus it's either 2 on 1 with the Belltower Bitches or me vs. the entire level with the Rat Pussies.
Some notes on this sword: - The B/B scaling (A/A scaling with +10) is what makes this weapon viable (because otherwise it's just a base-damage nerfed longsword), and that means a 'quality build' (i.e. 40/40 dex/strength) is a must if you really want to justify using this sword over other choices in its class. - The double one-handed R2 thrust is the closest thing in DkS2 you can get to the one-handed thrust R2 that the DkS1 longsword had (and which the DkS2 normal longsword moveset has tragically lost), so this is a particularly nice choice of weapon if you prefer to face-tank with a shield rather than dodging. - All in all, the Sunbro Sword is intrinsically designed for a player-character that focuses most of their stats on physical ability, uses a shield frequently, and are more concerned with PvE than PvP. And *since this is exactly what Solaire was all about* in DkS1, it makes perfect sense. - I don't quite agree with the OP's assessment that this is an ideal weapon for PvP. That being said, the R2 two-handed attacks are sneaky good for PvP, because they have a deceptive 180 degree hit-zone with more reach than it seems.
Grabbing this for my Oscar of Astora cosplay. Closest thing to an Astora straight sword in the game. Thought of infusing it with magic but heard that effs the scaling up pretty good
An alternate but longer method of getting Sunlight Medals are the Falconer Knights seen in Things Betwistx in NG Plus and beyond. They are a rare drop, so join the Covenant of Champions and bear with the grind.
I've played this game for months now and I've never seen a single player summon sign and I think I've only been able to invade once and I've never been invaded
In my own opinion the best thing to go along with this is *Lightning on weapon *sunlight blade(miracle) Not much but in my opinion these would make the blade a lot more fitting to the name
Reloaded Past yeah bit late, but your reply was also late. Perhaps English isn’t his native language? It’s not for me and before DS2 I’ve never read the word copse and didn’t bother about its meaning, Jumpin might’ve just quickly read over it and thought it’s corpse
I finally got the Sun Sword after an eternity of fighting Falconers in multiple locations. I am still short of 10 Sunlight medals to max out the covenant. I like this sword and I worked hard to get it. I'm playing Dark Souls II SotFS again while I previously played the Cinders Dark Souls III mod. I played Dark Souls II back in Summer 2018 and I tried to remember my progress in the game. At least I figured out how access Aldia and fight him. The Sun Sword did its job to beat Aldia after trying to find him. I'm still rusty since I played Dark Souls II back in Summer 2018. That was after I beat Dark Souls III at SL1 NG+7 and I defeated Soul of Cinder without taking a hit.
btw the temple knight set is called the arkdrake armor btw its easy to get the weapons but harder to get the armor its self since you have to farm it lmao
yeah i already found it but no one on youtube has made a arkdrake set youtube video yet so thought it would be good to do a video about it btw i play on ps3 not xbox
Trying to get this Right now, Its fucking impossible so few peope playing and even fewer summoning and the drop rate for medallions on enemies is awful. Somebody save me.
+Kallum Kelly you need to have offered a total of 20 Sunlight Medals to get the Sun Sword. Have you already gotten the Sunlight Parma? If so, you're halfway there to the Sun Sword.
"Huntsman's COPSE." Copse means "a small group of trees." Corpse means "a [usually dead] body." A in strength and A in dex. Holy nuts! That is high as shit! I really wish we knew exactly what the scaling would be, though.
This sword is a good option if you want to pary it up with somthing like a great hammer for pvp. As you can use it's quick atks to get a hit in to trap them for a large damage hit of the great hammer.
I have the red iron twin blade which I found in shrine of amana and it's basically a greatsword made light and put on both ends of the sword lol. It's amazing especially with lightning added on it.
Another way to get Sunlight Medals is from those Giants roaming around Harvest Valley, though, be warned, they are a rare drop! So, you will need equipment that increases Item Drop Rate and, jus to be safe, I recommend joining the Covenant of Champions so they keep spawning! That's how I got mine up to Rank 3! (Not the Trophy, I already had it! With the Covenant of Champions! Those Old Knights at Heide's Tower and the thrusting worm things jus outside where you find the Rotten drop Awestones! I found the latter out farming Titanite, the former by accident...) I'm currently looking to farm Rat Tails and whatever else I might need, so I will need to look up who drops what I need!

Chris Wells Actually, scaling with a stat is only worth it up to 40, so 40 dex and strength makes this weapon do 350 damage per hit, which is around 30 damage more than the longsword with the same stats. The sword also has a slightly better reach than the other straightsword class weapons. By the way, poise doesn't mean shit in Dark Souls 2. This sword can stun someone in full Havel's with 2 swings. It's a decent weapon, certainly not overpowered by any means. It certainly isn't on par with the almighty - and ridiculously in need of a nerf - Moonlight Gaysword. Also, with 40 dex and strength, you're putting yourself at a severe disadvantage against any spell users. That being said, I use a 40/40 build and don't mind getting occasionally cheesed to death by a kid using hexes.
I guess I don't understand scaling either, I went with a strength/intelligence build and a +10 raw zweihander, greatshield and pyromancy flame with flame swath and fireball. I mostly two hand the zweihander unless enemies are too quick. If I catch em off guard from a distance they get scorched.
I'm kinda noob in DS2 but I'm playing the PC version and it seems like this weapon got nerfed. Now it has B and B scale for STR and DEX. I was really dissapointed, because it took me two days to farm those sun medals and now I got a useless weapon. Or maybe it will raise to A when you upgrade it to +10 ? Help me here.
Remember that the standard longsword has C/C scaling, and no one-handed thrust combo. This is what sets the Sunbro Sword apart from the other longswords/broadswords.
do people even remember why it's called "quality build"? if they did, they wouldn't be saying it in reference to DkS2. the definition of a quality build was C/C scaling, not 40/40 (that was just the preference of most people). some builds did 25/40, 30/40, and so on do you guys remember how different the scaling was in DeS? do you realize how different scaling paths in DeS are compared to upgrades in DkS2?
It actually has horrible scaling if you add lightning. My Sun Sword +10 went from A/A to B/C. Unless you have a LOT of faith/int, I wouldn't recommend.
Quality builds are dead in DkS2. The scaling difference is so minimal from levels 1 - 40 that you may as well just use a buff build or go for a higher hitting weapon. Considering greatsword class weapons hit for a good bit of damage, and at the same time swing nearly as fast as a katana, you're much better off using a str/faith build with a lightning infused greatsword and buffing it with sunlight blade than going 40/40 with the sunlight sword.
I ran a faith str build and the Heides Knight sword +10 SHOULD NOT be overlooked its SO good it hits for around 380-400 a hit since I have 40 str and 40 faith.. and it weighs nothing and does lightining damage.. you can get like 5 swings out of it so fast with under 15 stamina points(forgot what its called)
Hey bud you should make a video on how to get the temple knight set its easy to get in shrine of Amana also you can get the actual shield from lost bastille near were you get the wander set as well you have to explode a couple barrels to find it though lmao
I think my best great sword is my black night great sword not to be confused with bkugs witch I also like. but I like it cuz it's super long and has good scaling
No fast sword deal 400 damage without enchant or magic(no rings no buff) but this one has 375 at 40/40 amd more at 50/50, vangaryan is good oponent but moveset is worse, like much worse. now add to this 400 dmg, rings, fire magic and you will get 1combo kill, this weapon is best fast small weapon with great moveset. two handed run attack is soo good like katanas
Just drop them anywhere near bosses, i always get summoned near smelter demon and the medusa chick in earthen peak. If you arent there yet then put them down at the beginning of the zones you're doing and hopefully you get summoned while trying to complete them. It'll give you experience on that zone with jolly cooperation!
Yeah, the communities pretty lively. Ideal spots, that I've found, are the Forest of Fallen Giants, while you're still low level, The Iron Keep and the King's Gate Bonfire in Drangleic Castle. The last one especially, you get people within a HUGE level range, I get summoned almost non-stop there.
can anyone tell me how to do the jump attack that he does here? i've seen people do it a few times, and i feel like i'm doing something wrong because i can't do it, i just fall of a ledge and die
Depends. If you have the 360 version, you need to just flick the left stick while simultaneously pressing the right trigger. It's a little tricky, time wise, you have to kind of get a rhythm for it.
It doesn't have anything to do with actual jumping, save that both involve the left stick. You can preform a jumping attack anywhere at anytime, warranted you get those controls right (which I imagine are pretty much the same on the PS3 controller).
u dont need this unless ur pure melee no magic build. this sword is only good when not infused, and on my melee/miracle build only does 328 dmg. heide knight sword is better for me.
and alternatively for a high int build you want to use blue flame (found from the leydia pyromancers in crypt) which isn't that great for melee but it also lets you cast spells with the R2, giving more options, this off-hand with a mlgs is great for NG+
It's Solaire's sword. Recall that Solaire was all brawn, all face-tank. As such, the Sunbro Sword's superior physical scaling and moveset versatility suits that concept perfectly. So you're right, it's not for mages. Solaire was definitely no mage.
Heide Knight Sword is actually really amazing with a faith melee build. I had my first character using full Alva + the Heide Knight Sword at +10 with some miracles coupled in, and I beat the game easily, and almost never lost in PVP. I just grew tired of using the same weapon over and over, really.
Chris Wells i think it is due to the fack you need cracked orbs to invade there is no infinite invasion item... which is the main reason i dont invade
***** the dragon soapstone you need to be summoned but the bell tower ring lets you invade infinitely.
im playing offline , how can i get it?
Gerelmaa Sergelen You play online, otherwise you can't.
Why is everyone so pissed about him saying huntsman's *corpse* calm down
Nice video, didn't think the demand would be so extreme for this weapon. But overall, nice Dark Souls 2 Guide!
Some notes on this sword:

You are honestly one of the best tutorial dark souls 2 players I've seen thanks so muchz
I just realized this guy sounds like Leo from Leo & Satan, no disrespect intended.
When I saw the scaling I was so happy I invested. Praise the sun!
The Sun Sword was a pain for me to get in Scholar of The First Sin,but when I got it I was a master in PvP
I've played this game for months now and I've never seen a single player summon sign and I think I've only been able to invade once and I've never been invaded
"Huntsman's Corpse" -_-

It's pronounced "huntsman's COPSE" A copse is a small group of trees. Are you inside the corpse of a huntsman? No.
Oscar Reece who the fuck cares honestly who cares?
Chill out lil timmy

Just for the record, it's Huntsman's Copse, not Corpse. Copse means a small group of trees, which fits in with what the area is.
Played 90+ hours of DS2 and experienced no invasions. Finally figured out my NAT was strict and how to open it. Let the games finally begin
Lmao, feels bad man.

I had always doubted of this sword. but now you've opened my eyes. I'll try it.
If I get the game, I'll be sure to get that sword. Screw greatswords and ultra greatswords, who needs them, other than Cloud Strife wannabes?
ur enthusiasm reminds of the sun guy
i miss being on dark souls 😟 its been such a long time since I've played

yes I already miss the sunlight spear now that the new update came that rendered them completely worthless even the great one too
You can also farm sunlight medals offline, in NG+. In Things Betwixt you can kill those guys with falcons to get them most easily
I have the red iron twin blade which I found in shrine of amana and it's basically a greatsword made light and put on both ends of the sword lol. It's amazing especially with lightning added on it.

It has the lowest counter strength of all edged weapons. Only the Shotel has lower poise damage. It's only advantage in combat is it's low stamina cost per swing.

Dagoth Ur So out of curiosity does this mean that scaling is pointless in this game? For example is my Moonlight Greatsword worth the int for scaling?
I guess I don't understand scaling either, I went with a strength/intelligence build and a +10 raw zweihander, greatshield and pyromancy flame with flame swath and fireball. I mostly two hand the zweihander unless enemies are too quick. If I catch em off guard from a distance they get scorched.
Just a quick question. How many points is in your health because you have an insane amount of health
It raises to A when you get +10
and still even if it was just B/B I wouldn't call it a useless weapon that would still be a really good scaling.
Remember that the standard longsword has C/C scaling, and no one-handed thrust combo. This is what sets the Sunbro Sword apart from the other longswords/broadswords.
I just left the sun covenant but if I join back will all the sun medals restart? 😟
Huntsman's COPSE
It's Huntsman Copse, not Corpse. Just a heads up.
copse not corpse
Is there any way to tell how many sun medals you've put in?
do people even remember why it's called "quality build"? if they did, they wouldn't be saying it in reference to DkS2. the definition of a quality build was C/C scaling, not 40/40 (that was just the preference of most people). some builds did 25/40, 30/40, and so on
do you guys remember how different the scaling was in DeS? do you realize how different scaling paths in DeS are compared to upgrades in DkS2?
It actually has horrible scaling if you add lightning. My Sun Sword +10 went from A/A to B/C. Unless you have a LOT of faith/int, I wouldn't recommend.

you can imbue it with magic too so it does physical, lightning and magic damge, does that make sense to do or not?
it does xD

I think my best great sword is my black night great sword not to be confused with bkugs witch I also like. but I like it cuz it's super long and has good scaling
Let's say I got a friend to summon me and we let time run out, will I still get a medal since it does say I fulfilled my duty?
In my experience, you have to beat the area boss without dying in order to get the medal.
If you use the sword, just don't infuse it. That ruins the scaling
No fast sword deal 400 damage without enchant or magic(no rings no buff) but this one has 375 at 40/40 amd more at 50/50, vangaryan is good oponent but moveset is worse, like much worse. now add to this 400 dmg, rings, fire magic and you will get 1combo kill, this weapon is best fast small weapon with great moveset. two handed run attack is soo good like katanas
p.s in pve no need in fast weapon(best choise one heanded is bandit axe)
When do i praise the sun? every day xD thanks i think i will go with Sun Sword myself thanks Jumpin!
Praise lord gaben and you will get the 50% off sword!!!
I wanna see some pvp with that "sowrd"

"Huntsmans' Corpse"... *cringe*
I know does anyone know how to say it properly it annoys me so much Copse not Corpse
I'm kinda sad that it's not called 'Huntsmans' corpse' :( That sounds more badass to me
How do you even say Copse?
Supreme Sloth By looking up pronunciation, I think it's a word closer to 'cops' but it's not cops : P I guess you take the r out of corpse xD
Supreme Sloth Co-piss one word... like having to Cope with bad news there is no R haha hope it helped
I still prefer the broadsword but that's just me thanks for clarifying how to get that fucking sword God damn things like a fucking unicorn to me!
What armor is that???
I can see a dual sunsword build coming on :D
I remember when I had bad fashion... I wasn't born
Good video but its Huntsman's COPSE, not corpse. Copse is a collection of trees.
Can you get the sword without co-op?
I don't know, but in ds1 you could get sunlight medals as a rare drop from enemies late game. But in ds2, im not sure.
How can get double medal I only get 1 I also first game I play it right now ps3
What is the best sword/axe in the game ?? ;0
Just got this for the 360, do people still leave summon signs and shit? I can't get any help whatsoever. and yes I am human when I look for them
Just drop them anywhere near bosses, i always get summoned near smelter demon and the medusa chick in earthen peak.
The last one especially, you get people within a HUGE level range, I get summoned almost non-stop there.
thanks :) my xbox has just broke now so I can't play it for a while tho xD just my luck
You're welcome. Hope you get that sorted out.
can anyone tell me how to do the jump attack that he does here? i've seen people do it a few times, and i feel like i'm doing something wrong because i can't do it, i just fall of a ledge and die
Depends. If you have the 360 version, you need to just flick the left stick while simultaneously pressing the right trigger. It's a little tricky, time wise, you have to kind of get a rhythm for it.
no i'm playing on the pc, but with my ps3 controller, i know how to jump, but always fail with the jump attack
CognizantCheddar Trusty Patches called Solaire an idiot, but one powerful idiot. Who cares, hes our idiot.
CottonPanzer Heide Knight Sword is bloody brilliant
Huntsmans COPSE dude... Huntsmans COPSE!!!!
it looks like it has the move set of a longsword
It doesn't. It's moveset is only shared with the Fume Sword.
Nice!
Hey, to Rank 3 in Heirs of the sun, I need 30 sunlight medal or 60 sunlight medals? I'm confused
30
Rodrigo Cicerelli 35
Hey dude, thanks for the vids, going for the sun sword :) What's your highest level? Cheers again.
stats?
Good sword but I prefer the one found in undead crypt that can be used as a catalyst :3
Blue falcion or something like that I think.
Daniel Luce Blue Flame
Yea that one lol. I'm not a mage so idr everything about mage stuff I'm told
