When Peter Schickele already invented the “{insert piece} but I got distracted” or “{insert piece} but it’s terrible and made me fail music theory” meme and outclassed them all.
Some great P. D. Q. Bach here. I have to say I love Peter Schickele's parodies: here he takes Mozart's piece and makes it his own, coalescing one or more sometimes contrasting melodies with the Mozart in counterpoint, which is both clever and often deliberately amusing. His musical humour knows no bounds!
It´s so skilfully done! I think my favourite bit is the Petrushka interruption in the finale and the lovely crossrhythm section in the slow movement. Loved it!
The song at 4:06 is "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair" by Stephen Foster. The piece at 7:17 is the theme from the Rachmaninoff 2nd piano concerto, which was popularized as the song "Full Moon and Empty Arms" 😊
For those who found it difficult to recognize Stephen Foster’s great hit, it’s also Bugs Bunny’s favorite song: I dream of Jeannie, she’s a light brown hare.
Brilliant ! Brings a smile to your face without doubt. Perfect for the Last Night of The Proms. But it's too musical and not woke enough for today's BBC !!!!
@@neilsaunders9309 It's a very good call Neil. I'm desperately trying to save this festival and I'm in annual correspondence with David Pickard. Like everything else the BBC tend to do, they fail.

@@nicholasd.5017 Lol, I just google it, I didn't even know that the two part of that song were the same song XD
I believe 11:10 is from Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel.
When Peter Schickele already invented the “{insert piece} but I got distracted” or “{insert piece} but it’s terrible and made me fail music theory” meme and outclassed them all.
He also beat Siivagunner to the punch by decades. They specialise in video game music, though
*Reads title* “Hey I know this one!”
*Proceeds to check that two tabs aren’t playing music simultaneously*

RIP Peter - a true genius.
May he rest in peace
So basically one can say Peter Schickele predicted the Classical Music Mashups XD
The Tristan Chord on 6:38 lol
Priceless. Saw PDQ twice for his NYC New Year's concerts...unforgettable.
It´s so skilfully done! I think my favourite bit is the Petrushka interruption in the finale and the lovely crossrhythm section in the slow movement. Loved it!
The Romance and Tristan chord got me! Looooll
How strange the change from major to minor

3:29 is Dixie
Classic! I performed this back in the day when I played oboe in Linköping Academic Orchestra, that was fun!
The Petrushka bit was hilarious.
Genius! Another brilliant chapter in the series 👏
Lol, this is great!
I also recognized basically everything, a part for the Menuet... maybe are those folksongs?
It's "Here We Go Looby-Loo". Probably unknown outside of America.
@@joshscores3360 nah we have that in the uk too
Ingenious! I remember enjoying his "Pervertimiento" in Manhattan fifty years ago!
All composition students should be made to study this.
And Mozart wept. But we, in the modern day, applaud his skill. RIP Peter, you were, are, and will be loved and enjoyed.
I think Mozart would have wept with laughter, as I did too
Closing it with Till Eulenspiegel is perfect.
2:39 Mozart 41, finale
2:44 Dvorák 9th, 1st movement
The OG Classical Music Mashup :)
A Brilliant Mashup!
Mozart vs Mozart vs different Classical pieces vs folksongs.
This is Mozart’s karma for his Messiah arrangement
derangement :)
6:22 is the "Anvil chorus" from il Trovatore! ("Chi del gitano i giorni abbella")
Do you know how Peter identified newly discovered sheet music by Ludwig van Beethoven? He did it the steinway😎
1:31 Is Mozarts first symphony, 1.movement
1:57 7:20 - Rachmaninow piano concerto
5:27 is the violin solo from Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade

Oh no! I'll never be able to not hear 2:17 again. 😭
I really wish this came with the introduction included in the album version. It makes it even better, IMO.
RIP, Prof Shickele.
That Liszt's piano concerto was genius!

Yes. 50-odd years ago the audience could be expected to catch the references and appreciate the stylistic incongruities, but today...
