I got my first chessbook from my grandfather, a book printed in the 1940s. It was of course out of date but I started reading it out of curiosity and Kings gambit was the first opening covered. The strategy and stories about the opening really got me interested in chess and to this day 20 years later my love and nostalgia for the kings gambit is still very strong!
Kosteniuk has a good attitude about it. It's really frustrating to get shut out, but it's an honor to be able to play so many of the world's best players and it will improve your own game. And you get to choose which of those two things you focus on.
Probably the reason why she joined the tourney. She did say she’s prepared to begin her suffering. Im guessing she was referring to losing to all the top players.
I mean, as brutal as it is, because she is the only woman in the field, she is also simply the weakest player in the field by quite a wide margin, so playing a very sharp opening against her makes sense.
@@nialljasper2481 Of course not, I never suggested that. It's just a bit brutal that the only woman in the field is getting crushed. 2500 is not "slightly" weaker compared to 2750 / 2800 though, that's a huge gap.

Nepo is a brilliant and exciting player and a very worthy opponent to play Carlsen but even months later I still don't understand how he played so bad.
Under pressure anyone would crack. His team supposedly pressured him to win so he took some risks he shouldn't have. If he played like he always did the matches will all be draws and they would end up in a tie breaker Armageddon where both Carlsen and Nepo have a chance to win
If you play the Kings gambit, you should know the Wagenbach variation. It's very odd but it has claimed a few masters scalps. It goes 1 e4 e5 2 f4 e x f4 3 Nf3 (or similar) h5. This line produces some very odd positions for the K gambit. It is not uncommon for both sides to end up casting queen side. Its very hard work for black but if black makes it out of the opening black is ususlly on top.

So, what was exactly the reason Alexandra took place in this tournament? To lose every single game (bar one at the end)? How many more proofs till they all realise that women can not compete with men?!
White could actually give the Queen after knight takes the rook on on f8 because you still have the bishop pair and black now has back rank issues that paralyzed there position
