- ** UPDATED: INSERT WITH ARROW POINTING DOWN ** Showing those that don’t know how, to change the cabin air filter on a 2017 Subaru Impreza. Put this together because I couldn’t find a clear one on here.
Works with 2018 as well. Best video on this I've seen.

Wanted to say something for anyone watching. The filter actually goes the other way. No slight to the poster. There was a mean worded comment saying similar thing I just wanted to say it nicer for anyone who is watching in the future replacing their filter. Nice video!

I'm certain popping tabs on side isn't required. Those tabs are only for construction of the C.A.F housing. Only top and bottom tabs on C.A.F. access panel holds access panel in place. Everything else is correct. 5th Gen Impreza

Great video. But you may have inserted the filter upside down. The AIR FLOW arrows should be pointing down, because the air flow moves from the top to the bottom (that's why the top of the filter was the dirtiest). That's a design flaw by STP
According to the Subaru manual the arrow is to be pointed up, not down. The arrow does not appear to be the direction of air flow
Not sure on that…I’m not a trained professional and I suppose now one says up and another down 🙈 haha I’d have to check! If Subaru says up it must be 😅
Kindly disregard advice from individuals advocating for pointing it downward, particularly for this model and year. Always consult the vehicle's owners manual for accurate information. As per the manual for the 2017 Impreza, there's an explicit caution notation indicating that the arrow should be directed UPWARDS.

i think you had inadvertently placed the new cabin air filter in the wrong position. when you took the old one out, the filter linings were in a horizontal position and that the new one was placed vertically and the arrow for air flow was on the opposite direction. just for your info. the following link i think was the right steps in doing so ua-cam.com/video/l6fZmpUr1tg/v-deo.html for you info

You put it in upside down. The arrow shows airflow direction and the air flows top to bottom.

I was able to confirm, since your filter has the words "Air Flow" the arrows need to be pointing down. Otherwise if the filter doesn't say Air Flow then you would insert the filter with the arrows up (confusing, I know). Actually, if it doesn't say air flow next to the arrows, the arrows still indicate air flow, EXCEPT if it says "up" next to the arrows.

I did not 😄any auto place will do the trick! (I got mine from O’Rileys or Autozone I believe

One problem...
You put it in upside down.
The word "up" next to the arrow on the old filter has nothing to do with air flow direction.
Your new filter is not the same brand as your old filter. Similarly the word "up" and the words "air flow" don't mean the same thing. "Up" simply means "this side up". Air flow, on the other hand, is downward. This is evident from the fact that dirt collects on the topside of the old filter. So dirty air enters the top of the filter and goes through the filter resulting in clean air entering the blower motor mounted below the filter where it gets distributed through the ducts.
If you still have a problem grasping these simple facts then take out the filter and hold a piece of string or tissue paper where the filter sits and then turn on the blower and it should provide all the evidence you need. Air flow arrows need to point down.
