- The 2018 Street Glide Special is one mean machine! In this video, I'm adding some detachable accessories for a customer. The Street Glide is already pretty awesome, especially in this years anniversary paint, Legend Blue Denim. Throw in the extra storage of a tour pak, and it's perfect. Still not enough storage? I even added a black luggage rack, so the customer can strap extra bags on top of the tour pak! Stripped down for around town, but in a few seconds it's ready for a road trip. ENJOY!

As an engineer I'll say thanks for the love. But more importantly, thanks for the video. This summer I'm looking to buy a Street Glide and install a tour pack on it. I'll be doing it myself to save a few $$$. Main takeaways - use the right parts, take your time, it'll all work out.

Did this on my Ultra last fall with no experience and it was easy, so glad I didn’t pay my dealer $600 for labor. There is a guy on UA-cam that has a great step by step video that helped me out a lot. Ride safe!
Thank you soooo much for the tip on the oblong and correct rotation of the mounting hardware. I was losing my mind! Worked out perfect with just a little rotation. Had no idea about that. You guys rock!

My 17 SGS came with the docking hardware, and I bought the charcoal denim King Tour Pack for it. Was a lot of work, buying the harness, making a connector to tie in under the seat, was an absolute pain in the A!! Bought the wrap around led tail-brake light that comes on the Ultra or Limited's, also wired in a cigarette light receptacle to charge accessories in it, and the luggage rack on top. Between the cost of that, plus I added lowers on the front, it really adds up. Considering trading to a Road Glide, and I honestly think I'll just get it from the start instead of a Special and add it, buy the limited with it. Thanks for the vid though, looks good.
I always remove my bbq grill, aka luggage rack to be able to clean my tourpack easier, especially on black paint

I have an older model Evo with the old style latches and upgraded them (deleted) to the later one piece style. The guy at the parts counter told me that "This later style latch wouldn't work on my bike", whatever.... That latch is SO much better than the junk older style ones. I even had the lock set keyed so that it matches my ignition. Love the look and design of it! Sure beats the old "Samsonite" luggage style latches!! I had no choice but to get all the holes filled and color matched to hide them, but all in all I'm happier than a pig in the mud! Shockingly I think I'm one of the only people who has attempted to do this so far is I have NEVER seen any another early model bike with the later model latch installed on their bikes as of yet. To me it's a no-brainer I think it's worth upgrading.
Keep the vids coming my local harley shop puts the docking hardware on all the new bikes before ya buy it and I got a back rest and it never wants to latch in easily glad to know that you can adjust it thanks for the info

Thanks John for your videos. Bought a 2016 SGS last year and wanted to get an HD lighted luggage wing rack for it down the road so had them add the four-point brackets for me. Turns out the shocks on those were mounted upside down, from new, and nothing fit onto them. The dealer fixed it for me and had to add washers to work, but finally got it. Whew...
All that’s needed is to flip the shock on the right side. No washers needed. It’s in literature from the MoCo.
Glad you mentioned this vid in your June 6th video. I've been thinking about adding a luggage rack to my '15 Ultra Classic but I've been hesitant about doing it. Knowing my luck (if I had to do it with templates, measuring, etc) it would look straight right up to the point of drilling then bam cocksided as hell. lol I just went and looked at my tour pak lid and feel more comfortable now about doing it. Enjoyed this video, I have been riding metric bikes all my life and finally got to test ride the M8 Road King. I will make that my next bike and have been researching how I want mine setup. this will definitely be a part of that!

Great video. It's cool to see what happens behind the scenes. Most people just go to the dealership and say I want this or that done . I like to know the guys working on my bike. After all it's a major investment.

That’s awesome. There are quite a few customers that I know personally, but it’s a small percentage of the people that actually frequent the dealership.
So I’m almost positive but this is the bike my mom just got from the FT Benning Harley! Mom and dad got matching 2018 anniversary bikes. Mom got the street glide with the tour pak and mustang seat with back rest and dad got the Breakout

Another Great video! It would be Bad Ass if you could take us on a little tour of your tool box so we can all see those special “certified Harley Davidson mechanic” tools! Maybe show us what you use most when it comes to turning wrenches on a Harley so we all at home can dream of filling our boxes with or at least a good starter set. Yeah I remember when we installed the tourpac on my dads 05 Electra Glide. The stupid rack was the worst part. Also didn’t help that the first thing everyone did when a new tourpaced bike showed up they all checked it to if it was straight lol.

If this guy puts lights on (like an Ultra) we NEED to see that one with wiring details. I have obtained a set of lights from 2014 Ultra for the King Pack and want to install them in my King Pack for my 2014 Street Glide Special. HD does not really tell you how to do that and the install instructions for the TP are not very detailed what so ever when it comes to dealing with wiring. Not even the detach kit for the Ultra. Cant find spit out there for doing this, HD or aftermarket....... Hopefully that one comes up one of these days. Great work on the content. THANKYOU John!
I’ve done it once. It was horrible. I’d never do it again. Had to make a template to drill holes, make a wiring harness. Good god. 6 hours later the fella was good to go. No way I would have been able to film it, I had to concentrate to hard on what I was doing. If I see the bike again, I’ll film how it turned out.

That was cool. I have the same bike, same color and want to add the King Tour Pack to mine as well. I want to add the run/stop/turn lighting to the pack like the bike have that come with a tour pack. I'd love to see how to hook all of that up. I'm hearing Harley doesn't make the wiring connections for it.
I’ve made a harness to make it work, and I think namz (pretty sure that isn’t spelled right) makes one, too. The hard part is drilling the 8 or so holes to mount the light. I had to make a template and pray I was right.

I like that paint against the black engines. I thought I would like it on the Breakout, but it no look so good to me against chrome. Better against the brushed aluminum on the Fatboy though.

Great vivid!! 400 Amazon gotta drill in all the holes and buy a steel plate but it came with black latches and was vivid black already I would rather have a cheaper box that matches my bike than pay 1600 and still have to wonder why I see chrome on my all blacked out bike, and know its going g to cost me another couple hundred to fix this eyesore!

Yes Show us how you hooked/ where you moved the antenna. I did this on my 15 but I did it myself and Im not sure how to move it. And hooked up the lights.

Interested in how to add lighting to that tour pack and still have it easily detachable.
You just have to take the seat off and disconnect the electrical before trying to walk off with the tour pak. I can’t remember if they make a harness, or if you have to make a harness.
Did you just eyeball where to hit your center punch? If so, you're a very brave man.
I got mine last week $1600 was steep but I didn’t want the cheap Chinese stuff cracking, I was surprised HD had the marks for the luggage rack on the underside of the lid to but Ford does that with their rubber bumpers for sensors so they one have to make 1 bumper and have the collision techs drill them out for free! High trained unprofessional lol I like that, in the collision business we say Hack to work.
Lol I love Harley...but your 1600 dollar pak was made in China....along with most parts. Take off your tires and look what the inside of your rims say....

First of all, love your videos. I have a 2012 ultra classic and would love to put a detachable tour pack kit on it. but my wiring harness between the bike and the tour pack is hard wired. maybe do a video on how to cut into the wiring harness under the seat to add connectors to the wires to make removing the tour pack easy? it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
I put a 2014 trunk on my 2011 cvo street glide. I used a trailer wire harness that T's into the harness under the seat and cut to length to the tour pack. I used the factory harness in the trunk for all the LED brake and side lights just have to cut off the factory plug from the trunk to match up with the trailer wires. You can get a matching plug but was cheaper and easier to just pick a different one. Ive still have to choose one myself.

With a set of pm wheels and a Magnaflow exhaust it came out awesome if I may say so. Great video, keep up the good work my friend

I'm struggling with the 4 point docking kit I just bought in black. Why does it not come with black bolts and spacers? I was concerned that my backrest pad came with a chrome mounting plate, but the bracket came with a black one. Than God.

I just installed a detachable tour pack on my 2017 Streetglide Special. What do I need to do about the radio antenna? It’s pushed over by the pack and I’m sure it’ll scratch it.
