When casual geographic started talking about dogs on 911 I thought he was going to tell the story about how after the first couple days there were no survivors to be pulled out of the rubble and the dogs started getting depressed because they were only finding dead people so the first responders started burying themselves in the rubble so that the dogs could find somebody living, feel a bit better, and keep doing their job.

Knowing full well you aren't capable of dealing with it, also no, a gorilla isn't stupid, it wouldn't play wrestle with you knowing full well that it can beat you up by accident, if it does play it will hold back as gorillas aren't known for being attentive or less aggressive to weaker animals even in a dominance display. At best you both play wrestle and nothing happens, at worst you get a boo boo, but ain't no way they sending you through a wall. If you need more proof just look at literally every sanctuary built with keepers or caretakers of gorillas, they literally don't have that kind of issue often if at all.

For the animals 'overreacting', my first thought was just how I get startled way easier when I feel safe, because my guard is down. Like, I'm way more likely to react in a big way around my family than strangers if I get jumpscared or something, because I won't be exercising restraint in one situation and I will in the other. The parent isn't expecting their kid to suddenly do something, there aren’t predators around and they’re not braced for surprise, reacting out of genuine shock makes perfect sense to me (more than a deliberate rational attempt to boost the kids ego)
I get the lion pettiness. The fact that they could exhibit such a "human" behavior is pretty funny despite the tragic reality.
