      None of my old trucks even have radios. Well, one does have the original factory radio with one speaker in the center of the dash, but on the rare occasion it actually picks up a signal its so full of static it's not worth listening to. The pipes sound much better anyway.

    For just a good old thump and nice Lopey idle, the good old school isky megacams work great on 327 size engines. The 106 and 108 lobe separation gives it great hot rod idle. Absolutely there are more modern camshaft grinds that make more power but those good old megacams sounds great really good for a hydraulic flat tappet. Keep up the videos please. I'm an old-school hot-rodder and love hearing those old engines cammed up

    Hee. Hee.... Brings back memories. 302 in a Trans Am series 67 Camaro. Aluminum flywheel, triple disc clutch, .550 lift, 270 duration, 106 LCA, 12 1/2 compression, running 37 degrees advance. Dad built it by hand when I was young, it would snap from 450 to 3000 seemingly faster than you could whack it. Nice work.

    Sound like a comp 280 magnum, or maybe one of the many copies of the comp 280 magnum. This cam was designed by Harold Brookshire, who later in life owned Bullet Cams. Inc. Harold was a legend, and he is sorely missed. Mr. Brookshire, Dema Elgin, and a few others made huge advances in camshaft designs in the 1970's to our current time.

    • @msh6865

      Had the good fortune to speak with Harold over the phone at length a few times. The man was a treasure trove of knowledge. He is literally responsible for 80% of all the cam grinds we've come to know and love. From Comp Cams to Lunatic, General Dynamics, Bullet and so many more. RIP Harold.

    • @kevinkelley3657
      @kevinkelley3657 5 років тому +1

      Yes, I have heard that he designed a large part of what is on the market now. I never had the pleasure of talking to him, he was gone before I ventured down the road of competitions engines. But, I can tell u that when we built a Limited Engine for our dirt late model, we called Bullet Camshaft, and Tim sold us one of Harrold's grinds and it runs like a scalded ass ape!!!

    Very nice! Reminds me of a 327 that I had in a 64 SS Impala only I was running 288 duration and 450 lift --slightly milder but wanted good gas millage as well. Got it from the Crane folks and it really enabled my 327 to produce way over the 300 hp the original engine was speced at. Of course I had the Performer series manifold from Edelbrock and a pair of Cyclone headers. Engine was bored .30 over and the heads were off a 68 Camaro 1.94/1.50 ! Ran a Carter 4 barrel AFB carburetor that could suck gas down like no tomorrow!

      Why 68 ? 327 just curious ?? It was the. Last yr of the small journal and 69 was the last yr period on them they were ok especially if it had big heads and a cam so it would rev out w out spring float but w out that they really lacked low end grunt due to the short stroke many a 69 camaro four speed with a stock 2 barrel 327 that i rode in back in the day were very unimpressive believe it a 350 same set up was much better and all that was different was fhe stroke the longer stroke makes more low end torque and thats what you feel in a car on the street the low end seat of your pamts grunt the 327 didnt have it now once you got the rpms up and .made horse power they did well but that cost money and most people didnt want to rev their engines past 4 grand to make power remember torque breaks the tires loose hp keeps them spinning

      @Rick Simpson I run a 235 with the 838 head, I love that thing. I agree completely. Unbelievable fuel mileage. Plus a unique sound.

    • @AryDontSurf
      @AryDontSurf 5 років тому

      @Rick Simpson 150mph with a straight 6 must have sounded like a sawmill. I run the stock intake with the original single barrel Rochester and the stock exhaust with a straight pipe. I'm sure not winning any races but man that thing is bullet proof. I thought you meant "170" as the casting number for the head. That's why I said the 838 head (364838) it's a mid fifties cast that apparently has better compression than the previous heads for the 235.
      That's really cool you've built that many man, my experience is limited to my truck really. I'm always glad when i find someone enthusiastic about Inline sixes. Most folks just ask why I don't run a small block.

Im putting away some extra cash for a decent Slant 6 to throw in there. Maybe lower it some with the torsion bars. Outside of that. It really is fine the way it is I think.
      I could see the thing being quick. Even with a V8 it's a 2800 pound car. Absolutely insane.

    If anybody cares. I had this maybe same setup (lunati bracketmaster( in the early 00's in a 69 Malibu with 3.73's. 275 rear tires and SSM bars and it would hang or beat early LS1's with bolt ons. Was a very street friendly setup. I had alot of rowdier combos but it was a sweet lil street mill.

    That intake and carb isn't doing any justice to that build. I have a similar set up (cam profile, a little more duration) in my Chevy II wagon. Ran it on the street with a gear drive, Victor Jr. and 780 VS carb and 3000 stall for years. Shift at 7000 rpm all day. Same motor was in my Chevy II coupe before I got the wagon. This was in the early 90's. Would out run new Vettes anytime. Gas was cheap then, lol. Ah, to be 19 again ;)

    There are many more variables to consider other than cam lift (valve opening) and duration. Every application is different and should be tailored to do whats required and desired. Sound is probably the least indicative of how an engine will perform in its actual environment. They all sound good in a stand. So for the amature looking to rebuild his engine, there is a lot to know. And be ready to compromise. You can't have everything, shoot for a happy medium.

    My only gripe is a Carter carb on a q jet intake. Run the q jet carb. That adaptor is robbing power.

  • @Wilson-cp4gx

    Sounds great, but it has 283 heads. These needs also came on the lowest horsepower version of the 327, the 2v, 210 hp version. Also, somebody needs to take the valve covers off and straighten them where the bolts hold them down and get the retainer clips to go under the bolts or they will definitely leak.

    It does sound great. I restored a vintage 454 powered Airstream motorhome. I bored and stroked it to a 492 with a custom grind cam for low end torque. The results is an incredible sound. Plus 14mpg. Its on my youtube channel

    Just know that is a 283 4bbl intake manifold. Great throttle response and low-end torque but will leave a lot on the table as far as horsepower. carb is adapted to the intake.

    327 was a versatile engine. I had a 68 Camaro with a 327-210hp. Put on 1.94 valve heads and a 4-barrel carburetor to upgrade to 275hp. Was like a different engine. I can just imagine what it would be like at 375hp with solid lifters in the Corvette.
