This is one hell of a performance by EST. This is back when you actually had to be able to dance rhyme and have an actual theme to a song it wasn’t just garbage put together.
I was a junior in high school DETROIT REDFORD HIGH SCHOOL. 1989. Man those were the DAYS. THIS TAPE FLEW OFF THE SHELF. Everybody's car or house I was in had this TAPE.
Straight up classic right here. Very underrated group right here. Takes me back to a time and place when life was easy and it was about chasing women, hanging out and playing sports. I'd give anything to go back in the day for one week.
I'm from this generation. I was a soph in college when this song came out... we took the now "Golden Era" for granted. Just about everyone who lasted past one album was legit. Man, how things have changed!
Bro I dnt cry at funerals but wen I see old clips of bak n da day wen the Tymes were real, dudes wasn’t out here trying to impress other dudes killing each other etc shish makes me shed a tear.Imloss the 80’s and 90’s wen we were jus focused of being fresh, dope, having a good Tyme and we did it to the fullest
He's been that dude behind the scenes too. He never stopped writing. He's ghost written for a lot of Top R&B acts. He wrote 3 hit songs for Beyonce. I remember two of them "Baby Boy" and "Me, Myself, and I"
I remember me and my homie t-note watching this performance over and over again on video tape when this aired......damn hip hop will never feel like this again
Lol, I remember having to decipher this joint line by line to one of my white friends back in the day. I have this CD in my collection to this day. I guard my 87- 92 hip hop CDs, LPs, and 12s with my life. Same with cassettes.
damn im born and raised in West Philly...i even seen 3 Times Dope at 52st YMCA perform...never knew they got this big.....i miss my home town Philly...but yo Dallas,TX is poppin to only been here a year and luv it
The cut was called a Gumby because it resembled the head shape of the claymation cartoon character from the 60s and 70s. Bobby Brown later picked up on it which you can see in several of his most popular videos. Respect to you.
Golden age of hiphop! Rappers always wanted to get in with the dancers....lol. Now dancers do not exist....back back in the dancers were the ones pulling all the ladies.
i went to school with this nigga est we use to write graffitti back in the day ,i happy when i seen this show damn this was like 89 this nigga writing for beyonce now ,logan all day north philly
Loved 3XD growing up in South Jersey. Never knew they were on Arsenio. Incredible era and music. I had a bootleg 3XD t shirt from Cowtown, NJ. I could recite this song when I’m 90.
@culture b jones I believe they had to say someone else (Kool Moe Dee) instead of Steady B at the time they preformed this because Three Times Dope were having they're problems with the rest of The Hilltop Hustlers breaking off from them & the Goodman's. So for some legal reasons they didn't say his name plus give them any public notice or recgonition on live television at that time. Hip Hop history ya'll!!!
@anonymousent U aint lyin'!! He f*cked EVERYTHING up for them..SMH And Philly was blowin' up the spot big time at that stage of hip hop. I know that and I'm from the South (Little Rock)! Philly artists from the Golden Era runs CIRCLES around these clowns representin' Philly today. But hey, that's indicative all over these days..
@anonymousent don't forget he had Will on his label 1st and screwed him too! Messed up the whole Philly scene is an understatement , he could have been Puffy before Puffy but his ego got in the way before he was anything. Led his nephew straight nuts and it landed him jail for Bank robbery! I used to break dance for Steady B's group "Supreme Breakers" !
One of the most overlooked groups from the Golden era. True Originals
YES SIR....
Still bangs in 2024 till infinity.
This is one hell of a performance by EST. This is back when you actually had to be able to dance rhyme and have an actual theme to a song it wasn’t just garbage put together.
You were only 9 years old, stop it
I was a junior in high school DETROIT REDFORD HIGH SCHOOL.

Hip Hop history ya'll!!!
steven spedden right
Nah....Steady's original nickname as a kid was Boob. So when he started recording he changed it to " B." That's what the B means.

And Philly was blowin' up the spot big time at that stage of hip hop.
I know that and I'm from the South (Little Rock)!
Philly artists from the Golden Era runs CIRCLES around these clowns representin' Philly today.
But hey, that's indicative all over these days..
Why she said Kool Moe Dee and Steady B
If only these new artists went back and studied how the artists before them actually knew how to entertain and put on a show!
She said lol moe Dee on the song she says steady b
that crowd prob didnt know who Steady B was..they knew Moe Dee
culture b jones yup
Audience is freakin' lame!!!
Did that second guy forget to tumble?
@anonymousent don't forget he had Will on his label 1st and screwed him too! Messed up the whole Philly scene is an understatement , he could have been Puffy before Puffy but his ego got in the way before he was anything. Led his nephew straight nuts and it landed him jail for Bank robbery! I used to break dance for Steady B's group "Supreme Breakers" !
