- As dawn broke over the ruins of Nuremberg on April 18, 1945, Lieutenant Michael J. Daly charged forward under relentless German machine gun fire from MG34 and MG42s.
Neutralizing the crew with precise shots from his M1 carbine, Daly pushed ahead of the rubble to clear the road for his company. Alone, the Lieutenant engaged a six-man patrol armed with rocket launchers.
Always cool under combat, the Irish American neutralized the enemy with top-notch accuracy. Not content with that, Mike Daly pressed forward in a city fraught with danger; he led from the front, entering a park to face yet another machine gun.
Daly held his breath and pulled the trigger. Moments later, the third enemy machine gun was neutralized. Filled with adrenaline and inspiring his men, Daly went on the hunt for another enemy crew.
He went out in the open, followed by his men, when the abrupt silence was broken by enemy fire, and Daly was down…

The Medal of Honor *and* five Silver Stars?
This was no man.
This was a giant!
Now that's a hard charger. I don't think anything could stop this man. Thank you, Sir, for your outstanding service.
Wow, he was one tough SOB. I know why his men followed him everywhere. He always led from the front and risked just as much as anyone. Those Officers are few and far between. Also, great men to have as your leader. Respect.
The best warriors always seem to break your heart..Heroes are everywhere, heroes never ask for the credit, heroes love others more than themselves. Heroes never complain, or give up. Heroes are ordinary. Lt. Dayley... Selfless-Sacrifice defined . RIP , we thank you.
They don't make soldiers like that every day. Real life ain't Call of Duty or Fortnight
An extraordinary act of courage above & beyond the call of duty .
Cometh the hour , cometh the man . Honour & Respect . Lest we forget .
I think that today 30% of young Swedish men were unfit for the army. They had all kinds of allergies, neuropsychological diagnoses or was badly “curlade” (Swedish parents are “curling parents”, but I think the US term is “hoovering or helicopter parents”), shortly to close to mommy.
Heroes are remembered.....but Legends never die......MoH and 5 silver stars......West Point can't teach that kind of greatness.....he was just born with it.
"Operation Kraut". "Teutonic machine gun"? "The bullet entered his ear and exited his cheek, but he survived and was awarded the CMH". Wow.
…was shot in the head…
Aww damn.
…and recovered
Fuck yea!
Come on you people who criticize….. I have seen hundreds of hours of videos about war.
I’m also a Vietnam veteran with 7 years in the Army….
I’ve seen so much film footage when the narrator is talking about Marine soldiers and showing Army soldiers!!!
It’s just a menagerie of videos to give you something to look at while telling you military history.
Lighten up
Its spellcheck people get over it,we know what he means. Thank you Daly for your service.
Amazing warrior!!! Awesome video!! Thanks!
Yes!
The Lt showed why men like him was called the Greastest Generation!
Imagine the relief of Daily’s unit of battle hardened vets when they learned their new baby face 2nd Lt. is actually a badass.
Threw in a few scenes from To Hell And Back, Go For Broke and another whose name I can't recall.
Damn...in the ear and out the cheek? Ouch!
What a true legend, the top of his generation. Great video!
I thought I saw a scene from To Hell And Back.
A couple of scenes from that and a few from Go For Broke. And another few from a film whose name I can't recall.
Gave Audie Murphy a run for his money. Unbelievable. I'm in awe and respect.
I love this channel and this video, I just found the opening funny. I felt like that pointing Dicaprio meme.
"He charged forward with his m1 carbine". Footage of pretty much every well known American small arm except an m1 carbine.
No shade, well made. Just happened to work out that way and I happened to see it
I'm used to my great grandfather's paratrooper stock, so maybe I missed a full wood carbine on one of the running guys, but I think I only saw Thompsons, m1 garands, and Springfield '06's on the US side. Many m1 garands in each shot saying carbine.
Having shot both, they have some key differences, lol.
Don't mind me though, I'm just an autistic history teacher who has loves his many relics. I'm also not 100% sure. I love this channel and my very occasional "gotcha" moments with mismatched footage. Video editing is a lot of work and you match the feeling of the story very well.
Whoah, indeed !
WOW!
Hero
All those medals AND surviving a shot through the head? I wonder what he did after the war.
Demolishion?
It wouldn't be a Dark * video without at least one embarrassing misspelling.
WOW
I am very happy, are you?
Elated🎉
Yep. 6 months sober today.... sun is shining, went horse back riding and the birds are singing.
Happy 24 everyone. Much love from Toronto
"A man is as happy as he make up his mind to be." A. Lincoln. ☆
I'm very happy I have a home in heaven and nothing can take that away.
Can you please do more videos about the French Foreign Legion, especially them in ww2
D@mn! How was he affected by the hat headshot? What was his life like after the war?
Not bad for a Leg.
I'm glad he was on our side.
👍👍👍
The 3rd Infantry Division (US) was OP during WWII
One tough man! That's an American for you.
The M-G-42 could fire 1,500 rounds per minute, thats 25 rounds per second, She be cooking!! 👊😎
❤
I did my Basic Training at Ft. McClellan Alabama when I joined the ARMY.
Fun Fact Ft. McClellan has been Decommissioned and doesn't exist anymore.
Funner Fact: Ft McClellan is still around. It now falls under the Alabama National Guard and is operated as a training site and the OCS for the AL-ARNG.
I live pretty close to Anniston Al, growing up it was a trip seeing army convoys everywhere. In the late 60s Huey daisy chains constantly going over. There was an artillery range near the fort, Pelham range. We would deer hunt near there and artillery rounds would shake the leaves out of the trees.
A very brave man, risking his life at the end of the war. But keep in mind, that Nuremberg was mostly defended by Hitleryouth and Volkssturm old men, there were not many regular troops there. Non or less a formidable act of bravery and shows how war was, not like in all the films
At ease that sh*t, private!
Clips showing fighting in winter, but no snow on the ground? Really?
Unrelated Ad Note: I think I like Mark Robinson for NC Governor.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
lol i was taking this serious until he said 1st french army. LOL all 5 of them is it?
The French faught all through the war not like the Americans
Who the hell makes these freaky ass thumbnails?
Singolsheim is not pronounced Singol sheim, but Singols heim
The Russian Liberation Army was there in that battle
They don't make men like him anymore, most of the men today are a bunch of babies.
Michael J. Daly (1925 - 2008)
I bet he leaned to the side when he walked from all that metal. 😁😁😁
Typo thumbnail!!!
?
Spelling police here -1 for misspelling Demolition and -1 cos it's in the thumbnail and everyone can see
-20 because this shouldnt have even happened with the spelling and grammar check that is built into everything. This is why gen z can't spell!!
The mountains mentioned at 6:37 weren't foreboding (adj.), which describing a feeling of dread that people get, they were forbidding (also adj.), which describes their inherent nature. Meanwhile, back at 6:02, the Colmar pocket had no reputation as an "ominous" place until after everyone knew what had happened there. Literacy has taken a back seat but it still counts, because we know you're faking it when you use language poorly.
DEMOLITION, not "demolishion". Did you ever go to school?
Probably a melinnial or gen Z, they allow spell check and grammar check to do all the work. That's why they are afraid of proper grammar, and punctuation.
Hold on, now! Don't ever, never, use a fake German tank based on an early Patton from a movie again. That was so distracting I had to stop and tell you I noticed.
DEMOLITION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you have spell check!!!????
Beat me to it, clicked on this to say the same. This is sad AF.
There's no way that spell/grammar check didn't flag this.
Some people are just not happy unless they are throwing mud.
@@auggies100%
Sie grammar nazi's are here
You know that some peoples kids just can’t help it ,,, they just got to keep there gas light to avoid there flawless act of perfection !!! But the award they might get and the crown they seek will only hind the heart of a coward from some but not all !!!
He was fighting children and old men from the 'Volkssturm' at this point.
Not much soldiering in that. They had zero training and hardly knew how to duck for cover.
And you have done what with your life keyboard soldier ?
Skill issue
Children and old men can still squeeze a trigger and kill a man or don’t you read the news each day, Sparky? Happens all across the country and it happened in WW 2, also.
