- We finally saw the long-awaited Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder - a compact SUV co-developed by Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. While Suzuki has offered its global C platform and the 1.5-litre K-series engine, Toyota has given its 1.5-litre 3-cylinder TNGA engine with its strong hybrid system. While the non-hybrid/mild hybrid version will come with front wheel drive and all wheel drive options. The strong hybrid version, on the other hand, will be an FWD only with self-charging EV battery capabilities. Transmission options on the mild hybrid will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, the ones we have seen on the new Brezza. Small correction, Toyota is not sourcing e-Drive Hybrid, they just inaugurated a new plant 4 days ago in Bidadi Karanataka and state CM was present, it'll be used to manufacture this e-Drive powertrain locally in India.

@Aqb. I think the Suzuki equivalent of hyryder will come either as s-cross/vitara. But given Indian audience consider s-cross as a failed car (even though it is a great car, highly underrated!), they might name it Vitara and it also makes sense because they dropped the "Vitara" from the latest Brezza.

Sahi kahaa bhai. The benefit that Toyota would enjoy with partnership with Maruti is competitive pricing. And being a Toyota, it already enjoys brand value and trust in people. Hope the safety is also upto Toyota’s standards and not Maruti’s standards. Pricing thoda oopar bhi jo jaaye, tab bhi chalega.
@@kshitijsolanki3295 : I agree with you but Hyundai is also quite popular in its home country, Korea. People and even government officials (who have to mandatorily commute in cars from domestic brand) prefer Hyundai over other brands. But it’s also the fact that Hyundai cars sold in Korea are a lot reliable and safer than the ones sold in India. I don’t think any of the Hyundai cars sold in Korea scored a poor 3-star safety ratings at any NCAP where they test the car. Is Creta or i20 or i10 or Alcazar even sold there? I don’t know.
Well, I don’t have to say anything in support of Toyota. It’s globally renowned and trusted brand. It’s the more reliable brand in the entire auto industry for over a decade. It slipped to second position only is recent times and taken over by Lexus as the most reliable brand in the world. And everyone knows that Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota. So basically, Toyota is still ruling the roost in the auto industry.

Regarding the sunroof, I noticed when the sunroof is closed, still, a lot of light is coming in. is it not truly opaque? will it allow a lot of sunlight and probably heat during daytime? please clarify?

@@amogus3073 : Well, Toyota never favoured sunroofs on their cars for safety and structural rigidity reasons. It cannot be denied that a metal sheet would always provide greater protection than a glass. But owning to the high demand they did start offering small sunroof on their high end cars like Camry and the new gen Land Cruiser LC300. I doubt they’d ever offer a panoramic sunroof. Regardless, in our climatic conditions, sunroofs really have no purpose save for aesthetics appeal. And personally, I don’t care sunroof either. It’s appealing only for few days or weeks but would be most often closed for the rest of the life.

@@aayushbhingare2279 : Ironically, Toyota does offer front camera and even ADAS features on Fortuner sold in Thailand and Philippines that perhaps is priced similarly or even less. It’s the reason why you’d find a dedicated space for front camera on Fortuner sold in India.
I think Toyota is planning to launch another version of Fortuner later and add all the missing basic features (perhaps they would still skip ADAS) before discontinuing the car. And that would be such shame that they needed to bring another model that is equipped with all those missing features at such an inflated price.

Toyota & Maruti have a winner on hand with good Cabin space if they price it well. It's a killer Combo Reliability & Quality After-Sales Services from Toyota & all India Service Network & Efficiency of 1.5 K-Series engine from Maruti India.
It's getting very difficult in the Mid Size SUV segment dominated by Korean Twins Creata-Seltos, Mahindra Scorpio, German Twins Kushaq-Tiagun, Maruti's SCross, poor Nissan Kicks. Chances are Kicks might say good bye anytime from India.
Its hilarious & stupid how a smaller car at Toyota will have a Sunroof but bigger vehicles like fortuner & Innova wont :)
