Alumni Series - Amie

“I always love a challenge.”
Amie was the fifth student at Stepping Stones, attending from 2006 - 2011 having previously struggled in mainstream education.
“I had no self-confidence, no self-esteem at all. When I came to Stepping Stones, the teachers had the time, they made me feel worthy and important.”
. For a long time, Amie’s disability went undiagnosed but since leaving Stepping Stones she’s completed a Masters and travelled the world.
“I went through a phase of believing I’d never be able to work with animals. Now I’m very much a person who’d give anything a go and nine times out of ten, I can do it.”
A trip to Borneo during her year in Industry changed everything, Amie wasn’t sure if she would be able to physically manage 3 months in the very humid and hot conditions but she took a leap of faith and hasn’t looked back.
“I thought if I don’t go and see what happens, I’ll regret it and I went and absolutely loved it.”
