I enjoy my x159 every day. I don't own nor will own a 149. Doesn't interest me. But this x159 does interest me on many levels. Expect Jinhao to introduce many colors & nib sizes over time.
They now have the X159 with the gold trim and a 2 tone nib. Just bought the black and gold trim version of it off Ebay today. $6.99 with free shipping. The seller I bought it from has 3 body color choices. Deep blue, dark burgundy, and black. Hopefully they will come out soon with nib choices.
@@koustavghoshpwe I just received my 2nd x159, this one in a lovely burgundy and gold trim. The Jinhao nibs are a larger size than the usual #6 size so those won’t fit.
"You might not like it, but it's widely done." What I have said for a while, but slightly different. "There's only so many ways to make a pen." Since the first fountain pens, there's been design copying. Heck, which came up with a cigar shaped pen? Not sure that it wasn't Sheaffer or Parker... Means the 149 copied a design. 😮 Has happened before, will continue to happen. 😁 And Jinhao gets it as good as they did? I'm definitely going to be getting one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this pen!
Just watched SBREBrown question if review vid’s were still needed!: yes, they bl**dy are! - pretty much my entire collection has been guided by you, that includes pens, inks and paper so please don’t stop!, you’re very much needed and appreciated:)
I have known and used Jinhao pens for over 15 years now. I feel that they have really matured as a company in terms of the design decisions they make in their pens nowadays. I find three noteworthy lines: the Jinhao 100, the Jinhao 86 and the Jinhao X159. All of these are clones but they are tastefully done and are inexpensive.
For fun, I bought a couple of these pens and when I flushed them prior to inking they both expressed a bit of blue ink, implying they had been tested before shipping. Both pens have exceptionally smooth nibs. I also like the new plastic body and I especially appreciate the new clip because the old one was hideous, indeed. The Jinhao x159 has become my favorite Chinese fountain pen, Montblanc ripoff or not!
This pen writes really well, and very inexpensive, hence is a great pen to learn grinding or testing, and of course for everyday writing without much experimenting.
I purchased two of these and I like them both. The only gripe I have is thst they are fine points. Waiting for Jinhao to bring them out in medium points.
I bought a 3 pack of X159s and overall I’m very pleased. Especially for the price. One of the pens is a bit dryer and takes a little more pressure when writing. Well worth the price.
I purchased two x159's when I first saw them. I have several colors of the original Jinhao 159's, and while I like them, I don't love them. This x159 is, however, special. I doubt I will ever find another pen with a similar value for the money except maybe the Jinhao 80 fiber black which is also exceptional in a completely different way. I gave one to a friend that is visiting. She is a writer and loves fountain pens. In fact, I may just buy a dozen and give them away or experiment on them. Why not? They are under $5 delivered. Keep up the great work!
I have continually been impressed by the quality of Jinhao pens, especially for the price. I have a 51A in my regular rota, and I'll have to give the X159 a shot.
A number of sellers of the X159 show a pen with that shield still on the clip. Some even show it with the shield near the top of the clip instead of further down as shown on the 159 in this video. They can't get the picture right so what are they really selling? Also the price varies wildly for some selling it for about $2 while other have it for about $13.
Hi, is the Jinhao 159 really painted metal? For some reason, I always thought it was lacquered brass or brass coated in acrylic but maybe I got it wrong.
I’m another one with no interest in a MB149, so my Jinhao 159 didn’t take any money away from Montblanc. I owned a MB146, and I honestly wasn’t impressed at all. I had other pens that wrote much smoother, and felt better in the hand. I sold it, and would never bother with owning another MB. I have a broad black 159, and I love it. I HATE the pen clip, but that’s a small price to pay for how well it writes. Thanks for your review.
I ordered one and it only took about three weeks. Then two more showed up. Apparently I accidentally ordered more than I intended. It was good I did though because the first one didn’t write well, but the second is fine. I think they usually have quality control issues generally, but especially on a newly released model. I think you’ll be glad when you get yours if you’re a fan of the 159. This is an improvement overall. I’m going to paint one of mine with nail lacquer to make up for the lack of color selection

I love your reviews, content, and channel. However, I can't really get into these clone pens. I have an assortment of genuine Pilots, Sailors, Lamys, etc. I guess to me, it's like walking down a street vendor alley in LA or NYC, looking at these clones, along with the pretend Coach, LV, etc on display.
I have several Lamy and Pilot fountain pens as well, but I find these are great pens for introducing someone to fountain pens and giving them away to friends.
Thanks for confirming. On every review of this pen that I’ve seen so far, the nib didn’t look a #8 to me. It looks slightly smaller. And I have a handful of #8 sized nibs.

I think geometric shapes are part of the common inheritance of mankind, and no one can take credit for inventing any of them.
@@animula6908 Well said!
@@animula6908 Strongly agree.
I'm very impressed with the x159. They really did everything right. Now I'm waiting for a medium nib for it!
Doug- can you tell me where to source a #8 nib that is broader for this? I am not a fine nib guy. Thanks

Nice review. I would add that the #8 nib has some flex. Not a lot, but it does give some line variation.
Thanks for the review!

Yo compre 3 unidades y todas ellas son excelentes. Es increíble que tengan el precio que pagas por ellas.
Es una estilográfica para todos los días.
Excelente. Son tan económicos que no tienes que preocuparte si pierdes uno.

Calling it "lacquered" is being very generous. It's basically just paint.
I have tried to enjoy enjoy the 159 for years, but the weight was always an issue. I may have to give the x159 a shot.
I need to get one of these X159 pens .... NOW !
Just popping in to say I love my 750s, and I have no intention of buying a MB. 1000 dollars for plastic? Nope.
Greetings from Australia.
Great Video I'll buy one.
what is rhe ink is used. seems that very web and god shade in the ink
Hopefully #8 nibs in interesting grinds will become available.
Thank you for the video
Very nice looking review for Wing Sung 628 and Ranga Samurai model if possible
Very nice simple review. Keep it up
The way that audio built up scared the crap outta me

What ink is inside the X159?
Montblanc Royal Blue

No interest here either in an MB. Hundreds of dollars for plastic? I don't think so.

I have one. It's a good pen and a definite improvement on the old 159.
It is lighter. Would love to see one with gold tone furnishings.
The older versions were terrible. I threw them out. Skipped, leaked, etc. This looks like a much better nib.
One correction: the X159 and MB149 have #7 nibs and feeds. I checked with a Caliper :)
The number 9 in the name of Montblanc 149 means that it has a number 9 nib size.
@@21ljc they can call it #30 like Pilot does, it's still 7mm in width. I also have a #8 bock, and it is 8mm wide.

Educating native English speaking pen reviewers, one at a time: the "c" at the end of Montblanc is silent.
Yes, yes, yes ! Mont Blanc is widely mispronounced which drives me crazy ! Thank you !
Not up to the mark. I will never go to buy a Chinese pen again. Uneven lines, week clip, o ring not placed properly on the base .
