  • This video is about how to clean a PU Natural Rubber Yoga Mat.
There are so many brands nowadays that produce Yoga mats of these materials. Maybe you have Liforme, or Alo Yoga, or Vayumudra, or Manduka GRP yoga mat, or any other brand.
These Yoga mats are very popular. They are very stable thanks to the rubber base and absorb sweet to prevent you from slipping (PU layer), but they are very gentle when it comes to cleaning.
In this short video I share with you how I clean my Liforme Yoga mat. We will discuss how often to do it and how to understand that it is time.
I hope that this video will be useful for someone🙏🏻

May I know if it is a must to buy the cleaner from their company? Or normal soap is ok?

Normal soap will do perfectly! I use the one for the dishes, you can also use the one for the hands. Just one drop of soap is enough. Make some foam with it and clean your yoga mat. I hope this may help🙏🏻🧘‍♀️

I have this exact same mat (it's wonderful, I've had it for 16 months now) and use this exact same method of cleaning too with a few drops of dish-soap. I have permanent handprints and footprints on mine from being in downward dog, they never disappear, even after being cleaned 😅

So true😅. Signs of practice remain, I actually don’t mind that. It really shows that you practice a lot🧘‍♀️☺️🙏🏻

Can we use multi purpose wipes instead, like dettol?

Hi Molly! Yes you can, but make sure they don’t bleach the mat and that you can avoid rinsing it after using the wipes (Dettoll has some wipes that need rinsing after). Actually it’s a great way especially if you don’t have much time.

Thanks for your video. Do you know how can we remove the rubber smell?

It will disappear with time. Better to leave the mat open between practices this will fasten the process. Also cleaning it will help, but don’t exaggerate😝

If it helps, I wipe mine down with plain water after every practice (I do hot yoga, so it gets really sweaty), and wash it with soap once a week. I use a soft sponge -- just the regular kind you buy at the grocery store -- and wring it out really well, then gently wipe the surface like she does here. For the weekly cleaning, I add one drop of eco-friendly dish soap (I use unscented Seventh Generation) to a bowl of water, soak the sponge, wring it out very well, and wipe the mat in both directions. Then I let it sit for a few minutes and wipe it down again with plain water. The key is not to leave drips/puddles of water on the mat, or it will take forever to dry. Leave it flat on the floor overnight, and it will be dry and ready for practice in the morning! These mats will last years if you take care of them like this.

That is a pity. You should reconsider it. It is so nice and essential to practice on the clean mat🧘‍♀️
