I have been sewing for 60 years.....I made some wonderful complex Vogue designer coats, suits, etc. but, you showed me new tips! Bias binding has always been a pain. Not the right color in my collection, made bias binding turns out messy but useable .Just using bias cut strips the way you did; a revelation!
Nice job on the tutorial! It's really a pleasure to see well-done and well-thought-out instructions. Tip - if you clip the neckline seam at a 45-degree angle rather than 90 degrees to the neckline seam, it prevents the seam from having a segmented appearance. And then if you were to clip the other seam, like if it was a facing, you would clip that seam at 45 degrees as well, in the opposite direction. I learned that from Louise Cutting.
I just started learning how to sew garments, and your tutorials are so helpful! How I wish you would make more, but it seems the last one you made was a year ago. Please don't stop teaching. You're one of the very best. Many thanks.
I hand basted the cuffs in place before top stitching. It was more time consuming, but I didn't trust that my topstitching would catch the arm band evenly. I was afraid to stitch in the ditch in case I had to remove stitches, if I missed catching the cuff evenly. I'm not as confident a seamstress as you.
This was the first garment I sewed from scratch from a pattern and it’s because of your amazing tutorial. I really want to thank you because I feel like I finally had a break through with the sewing machine which, previous to now, frustrated me to the point where I couldn’t even start anything.
Great video! Very clear and to the point. Love the reference lines for the hem, a great tip. Happy to be a new subscriber and will look you up on Instagram! 😊
Very useful tutorial! Such simple yet beautiful dress desreves professional finish that you are teaching us. I m impressed with your fabric! Could you please share details of the fabric (e.g. content, store to buy) or fabric designer? Thank you! Jovana
Once again a great tutorial. It is very apparent that you have done your homework and incorporated all the best practices of sewing videos into your channel, as well as the best practices of sewing and pressing techniques. Such a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I've already made a couple Georgia tees, but I have a few more cut out and all of these tips are going to help make the next batch so much better. All your tutorials are wonderful because you explain everything so clearly, and I also really appreciate how you give several options for different techniques.
Thanks Heather! I'm glad the video will help with your next batch of Georgias and that you like me showing multiple techniques! I try to include everything I think might be useful! :)
Hi Clare! Liz is actually formally releasing her patterns next month! I'd recommend signing up for her newsletter on her website www.elizabethsuzannstudio.com!
Great tutorial, I just bought a ham and think it will really help! Wondering, why do you press seams open before you press them to one side or the other? Does that make them flatter?
Thanks, Crissy! I love your tutorials! Do you have any tips for ironing a French seam? These ES patterns have 3/8 SAs so I do the internal seam at 1/8 SA but I have trouble ironing that flat before going to the 1/4 enclosing seam. Thanks!
Hi Erin! Thank you so much! :) Pressing 1/8" seams can be a bit tricky - what I usually try to do is get the seam open with my fingers, and then lay my seam gauge across it to hold it open. Then I slowly slide my seam gauge up the seam as I press with my iron. Still a bit tricky, but that works better for me than trying to use the tip of the iron only. For future versions, if you want to use French Seams I'd recommend extending the seam allowances to 5/8". That way you'll have a 1/4" seam to press open instead of 1/8". Much easier to wrangle! :)
Hi Mary! Right now, the patterns are in the process of being moved to Elizabeth Suzann's site, so they're not hosted anywhere for a few more weeks. From what I've read, she's aiming to offer the pattern files on her site in November! I'd recommend signing up for her newsletter at elizabethsuzann.com, as that's where she'll be announcing when they're available again.
