travis’ versatility makes it obvious why he’s the biggest rapper on the planet, obviously drake has better numbers but that’s cus he appeals to a pop and r&b audience aswell, talking strictly rap travis is the best. The way i see modern rap is there’s a divide from fans of nas, j cole and jid then carti, uzi, future etc. Then there’s trav who has a good mix of both. He had the fein song with carti which was the biggest song in that sub genre last year then he had lyrical songs like my eyes and skitzo which were some of the biggest lyrical songs of last year or atleast mainstream they were. Most artists fit into one of the 2 groups now obviously there’s others in both like drake and yachty dabbling in both but travis doesn’t have many filler songs, if he puts out a song it’s complete

i don’t mind certain rappers being up at different times but when they start inhibiting the artists i listen to i actively dislike them. Best examples are sexy redd and nicki minaj, i respect nikki but i don’t like her personally, if either of those 2 are on a song with drake or uzi or future etc. it just ruins it. I’m a fan of drake and sza’s part on rich baby daddy but i can never player it cus of sexy redd. People like tom mac donald and NF i don’t mind so much cus they don’t negatively impact the group of rappers i listen to, they have their fans and that’s fine it’s just not for me

Great video, imo Yachty shouldve been a lock for 1st but i get its only hip-hop so it harms him, but even then goong b4b on the same level as a returning-to-prime Drake with peak J-Cole? Hes moving like a veteran in an industry that breeds hatred towards new rappers. Its essentially him succeeding in the most difficult field in the hardest way possible, which makes me rate him far higher than other rappers who may be objectively better
Also, this may be a hot take, but wheres Drake? Imo hes tied with Cole minimum for this year. FATD, whilst not being a true return to form for Drake, is still an amazing album, and Scary Hours 3 is arguably the best straight-rapping album/EP of the year, and i will stand that Drake went fully b4b on FPS and Evil Ways with Cole, which a lot of rap faithfuls will be scared to even think of. Also in terms of music production/output, hes tied with Yachty in terms of quantity/quality ratio for this year, and his impact is unnecessary to discuss. As Cole said "not quite the Drake effect" and coming from Cole thats insane praise idgaf how humble he is.
