I have 21, 35, and 90mm lenses for my Leica M6 and M10 rangefinders. I use a FotoDiox Nikon F to Leica M adapter to mount my 14mm f/2.8, 18mm f/3.5, and 28mm f/4 perspective control Nikon wide-angles on my Leica rangefinders. To focus, I use zone focusing and/or hyperfocal distance. Of course, I can use the Live View LCD screen on my M10 for focusing.
I recently purchased a Nikkor 50mm 1.2 AIS for my Nikon D600 and the output is what I had in mind. Thanks to you I'm considering either a used Leica M240 or an M9 to go with the 50 1.2 AIS. Which of the two cameras would you recommend? Thank you.
Thanks for commenting. M9 or M240. Good question. I like my M240-P. Large battery means twice as many shots compared to M9. M240 has video, not sure whether that is a pro or con for you. Assuming either will be your first Leica, a good example of either would be a great start into the Leica world. Both will most likely keep their resale value over time.
Yes, focusing needs to be via measuring or guessing the distance between you and your subject, reading off the lens the depth of field associated with the aperture chosen, or use EVF focus, if you have a digital Leica M with Live View or EVF attachment.
Is globe now “Urth” ? I can’t find this exact adapter, but Urth seems to be similar packaging and tree planting proposition. I’ve never adapted non-M glass to my M11 and I’m a bit terrified lol. Is there anything I need to be aware of to not break / scratch anything on the body? Many recommend using Novoflex adapters but their F-M adapter is twice the price.
do you experience any corner smearing issues when adapting wider angle leica lens on z6? especially wide open infinite focus. I don't know if you have made a video on it or not, but I am super curious to see the performance difference of leica lens on z6 vs on m240.
I’ll will do the comparison Leica lenses on M240 vs Z6. Will schedule over the next few weeks. I’ll do 21mm f2.8, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4 and 90mm f2.0. Should be interesting. Cheers
ok...nice to be able to focus closer than with the leica lenses, but...i guess with the nikkor lenses you wont be able to focus using the rangefinder...so...the only way to focus is with the LV, right?
Yes, that’s correct, however, the manual Nikkor lens also have f-stop range focus markers on the lens, just like range finder lenses. Good for setting up shots from the hip. Works for wide angle lens. Hit and miss for anything over 35mm.
I saw someone ask about Leica lenses on the Nikon Z6, I would like to second that idea. I have Leica M6 and M4 and just cannot justify the expense of an M10 or even type 240 just to use the M glass I have (50mm f2, 35mm f2 135mm f4 and 21mm f2.8.
Thanks for your comment. I actually have loads for Nikon gear, the performance is the same on Nikon bodies from my observations. It's a good idea. I will do the same comparison using my D850. Thanks
And if one is making image comparisons, it's best to shoot at the same aperture. I've never seen a Nikkor f/1.2 50 look so absurdly bad, even when wide open!
I've only used the Noct Nikkor 58mm f1.2 once, when I purchased my Nikkor 50mm f1.2 in Tokyo from Map Camera. www.mapcamera.com. The 58mm was 10 x the price of the 50mm. In the shop, I did notice the clarity of the 58mm f1.2 was better than the 50mm. At that time, I couldn't justify the difference in price. Looking on eBay.com, second hand the 58mm Noct is selling around $4000 USD and the 50mm 1.2 around $400 USD.

Great collection of lenses. Thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge.
Thanks and what a beautiful share. Have you used noct Nikkor AIS 58mm f1.2 on a Leica body?
Unfortunately not. I had to return the lens to the owner who lent me the lens.

thank you for this video! one question: what about focusing? i can only use thru the lens and not via the rangefinder! i have the gobe adapters!

Great video! Thanks for the help
Glad it helped!
Sry for asking, but what version of the Summilux are you using?
Both the 35mm and 50mm Summilux are the current versions, the 35mm (2010) and the 50mm (2015) manufacture, going by serial numbers.
The screw mount Nikon lenses are nice on the Leica.
Will have to get my hands on an old Nikon lens one day.

@@Adventure8 Have you tried the " macro adapter m"?
AI-s 135mm 2.8 is great
👍

@@Adventure8 If it were free, I would take the M10 monochrome, no doubt....
suspect there are focusing issues with nikon lens on leica camera, try to shoot nikon lens on a nikon camera and then make a comparasion.

@@Adventure8i use a noct nikkor on m10. Very good results. Some say it can compete with noctilux
