I visited my cousin in St. Albans in the summer of 2009. When I got back home (Pittsburgh) I immediately asked my boss for a transfer. It was so peaceful, friendly, genuinely friendly. The food was the best I've ever had. We bought lobster out of the back of a box truck. They were crawling around on the back seat. The sunrise came a litte earlier than expected, so I was up at the crack of 3 or 4. The only bad part was that I had to leave to go back home.
@@LiveLifeInMaine No problem. I spent a couple of years living and working in Maine and during my 60 years, it's genuinely the nicest place I've ever been to. And you're 100% correct about the people of Maine; I was shocked at how kind, friendly, and accomodating they were to me - all the time. Not one nasty person in Maine; well maybe one or two. 😃😃
I really enjoyed your video. I currently live in beaufort s.c. and im looking for a home in maine, n.h., or vermont. The homes in calais maine are so reasonably priced. Is it a nice place to live? I am getting ready to retire. I grew up in n.h. and i want to go back.
Calais Maine is a somewhat depressed area. Washington County is the poorest county in Maine. It’s one of the reasons why home prices are the lowest in the state. That said, if you’re looking to retire then not a bad place. Quiet, not much going on. Depending on what you’re looking to do when you retire.
So you know as a kid, many of your beliefs coming during those formative years. Well back in the 70’s, the Patriots were a laughing joke. The teams back then was the Raiders, Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins and Vikings. Thats when I became a Raiders fan. Been a long miserable 20+ years since the tuck rule game and the rise of Brady. But I’m starting to see the light.
Oh I agree. Maine needs tourism. It’s just the summers are crazy in Southern Maine. Ever tried to come North from the tolls in NH into Maine on a Friday night in the summer or for that matter head south on a Sunday night.
September and October are the best. Weather still beautiful, but no bugs or humidity. Also, loons are my favorite thing about Maine!
Totally agree!

Another great video. Your honesty is very helpful and refreshing for people considering a permanent move to Maine.
I appreciate that!

Life long Mainer…and a Raiders fan? 😄

@@LiveLifeInMaine These young Pats fans have no idea how spoiled they are! Anywho, thanks for the great videos! I hope to make it to Maine…someday!
All I wanted was starting a homestead that has water access so that I could raise ducks and launch my own boat to the water.
Think of how much more you would need in taxes without the tourist revenues.
