Live Life in Maine
Приєднався 26 жов 2022
Hi and welcome. My name is Scott Thibeau. I'm a husband, father, veteran, patriot, and a true Son of Maine.
After serving my country and being honorably discharged from the military, I returned to the place I now proudly call home-Maine. Before my service, I couldn’t imagine spending my life here, but seeing the world gave me a new perspective. It opened my eyes to the incredible beauty, resilience, and opportunities Maine has to offer. I realized just how blessed I am to raise my family and build my career in this remarkable state.
I’ve developed a deep understanding of this state-its character, its people, and its real estate market. Whether you’re buying, selling, or just curious, I’m here to share my knowledge, experience, and passion for Maine.
Join me as we dive into all things real estate and discover why Maine truly is "the way life should be."

Moose country, best line of the video Scott. Thanks for all the information.
I got out of the military last month and I'm already looking at a land in Down East. I want to get in before the state gets too crowded. About the whole "don't bring too many people to Maine" thing - I get it. Places that are beautiful and not crowded are usually either super expensive or totally undeveloped. The key is just to be respectful and nice to everyone. The world is what we make it.
So taking all counties into count, it costs half a million dollars, on average, for a house in Maine. I think I'd rent an apartment or maybe look into buying a condominium. But then again, I'm single without kids. And knowing me, I'd want to be close to the coast. Another great video.
Yeah, it’s not the 80s anymore! Everything is expensive.
Wow
Lmao Maine has the least snow out of all the New England states. Hilarious you think Maine gets a lot of snow 😂😂😂😂
www.usa.com/rank/us--average-snow--state-rank.htm
Portland is already dead and gentrified. Its boring and lame now.
Hey Brother, First and foremost, I sincerely hope that you and your family enjoyed a spirited and "Merry Christmas" too. I admire the strong and spirited position that you took, regarding making the celebration of our Commanding Lord's birthday front and center. This is my first time watching your video. It was professional and informative. And my gut sense is that you are a strong leader, who is steadfast and confident. Well, I certainly appreciate your input regarding the winters in Maine especially, since my wife and I are planning to visit Maine for the first time sometime in February?! More importantly, thank you for the invaluable tips about winters in Maine. One thing I learned while scouting was to always be humble, tactically wise, and ask the locals all about their environment, especially for threat analysis. This has proven invaluable, especially from safety and security perspectives! Once again, thanks and I enjoyed listening to your presentation style! Sincerely, Bill Seddon Sr. P.S. "Philly Philly."
Thank you, Bill, Happy 2025. As a Patriot, Veteran, Husband, Father, now Grandfather, Son of Maine, my maker has blessed me throughout my life, even when I didn’t know it. When I’m finally called home, maybe tomorrow maybe years from now, when I cross that great divide, I won’t beg on my death bed for more time like the sorrows of men who live with regret wishing they had more time to do things over. I live my life for my family, for my friends, for the ones who I am put in their path to help. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, I had to strip away my ego, my insecurities, my shame to realize we are here love one another, help one another, bend a knee to no one but the Lord, respect others even if their views are not yours, and lead by showing grace, being humble and believe I am, just like you and everyone else, a child of God, and he doesn’t make mistakes. Thank you for the kind words, thank you for supporting the channel. God Bless….stay in touch…..Scott
Lived here 25 years with no serious difficulties. We hate tourists, so PLEASE stop telling them this is a nice place to visit.
Why you here for 25 years then. Besides you want my clients coming because when shit hits the fan, you’re gonna want my crowd.
Maine is full , dont move here
Most sparsely populated state east of the Mississippi. Not full, we need talent, maybe you can move out so it’s not so full.
Your mom needs talent. No more out-of-staters.
I’m not gonna engage in a childish response instead put it to you like this “Thank you for sharing your perspective. Maine’s beauty and opportunities make it an attractive place for many, and I understand concerns about maintaining the state’s unique character. However, bringing in diverse talent can help support local businesses, create jobs, and ensure Maine remains a vibrant and thriving community for future generations. I appreciate the conversation and encourage respectful dialogue as we all work toward what’s best for our state. The train is already underway and you either can hop on or get out of the way, or get run over, but either way it’s coming. your response is fear based which is a reflection upon you and your insecurities more than this great state of Maine. Good luck.
There have been parking passes for the beach since the early 80's at least that is nothing new. Vines landing aka the gut. Personally there's too much building going on by the water and people forget we still get a lot of big storms and hurricanes not as many as down south but I e seen beach houses be picked up and the remaining bit pushed across the road to be fair. I wish more mill towns with vacant mills would be redesigned there are plenty of them or I wish someone would do something with the old trull hospital there are still vacant spaces without wiping out woodland areas the less we preserve the more bleak the future. I do wish they would work more on parking down town so those areas are more easily accessed.
I live in Wilmington ma, I’m looking g to buy 30+acres w cabin. I’m about a yr away from it my btc bags will pay for the house lol
Cool. One of the tools a lot of out of state buyers use that I provide is a custom search stream that is set up from the criteria they give me. It’s free to them and they all really like it because not only is it custom to their wants but it has nice graphics and notifies them when something comes up matching their criteria. Most Realtors use the generic MLS search tool which is very clunky and vanilla. This is not that. You do need to provide an email and accept the cloud stream but after that it’s totally easy to customize and use. If you’re interested just let me know.
Congratulations on the BTC, I still don't get it or trust it but still feel sad that i didn't take that plumbing job for 20k bitcoin lolololol god help me! I've had a camp up in Moscow for 25 years and have recently been getting it ready for my exodus from this communist hell-hole called Massachusetts good luck !
Maine period is absolutely communist state they hate free speech they hate you standing on your rights they arrest and jail on a simple complaint they launch investigation that cost tax payers 100s of thousands based on what junkies say they run you out of small towns if you don’t drink and sexually assault women and kids there in there own little world
Thanks, Scott! Nice to meet you 😊
You're welcome, nice to meet you too!
Keep speaking TRUTH. No need to apologize. Thanks for being honest. It’s happening many other places.
Having grown up in a small ski slope town in Jay / Livermore Falls with a rope tow ski lift powered by a tractor engine forcing skiers to buy heavy duty gloves as to now burn their hands, I've got a slightly different opinion on the skiing here in Maine. Raising kids on these type of towns is great. As an adult Sugarloaf and Sunday River is always the mountains that people recommend. Albeit, I would enjoy in perfect conditions to go to Sugarloaf, it is rare that when they had gondola service at least that the top of the mountain was open. Too windy and never available. Sunday River I have nothing bad to say. Saddleback is the best mountain. However due to ownership and infrastructure its a local's ski slope. As a realtor, new people moving to this state are disappointed initially and in certain regions they last a few years then move. Or tough it out eventually becoming very negative due to the growing retired community here with not enough services to accommodate. good video.
I love Maine! I'm from Caribou, Maine. Born and raised on the family farm. I was working before I knew I was working! Back in the 70s the schools in Aroostook County went back to school in late August for 3 weeks then we were let back out for the potato harvest. This traditional practice helped out the farmers and the students got to make some money. We up here in "The County" are well known for our work ethics. When I joined the Army in 1980, I might have come from the country, but I knew many different things that these mama's boys had no clue of. I'm older now and a housebound disabled veteran, and I hate it! What I wouldn't give to be able to walk again.
Brother, thank you for your service first and foremost. The people that I meet from northern Maine and the ones I know are the salt of the earth. I wish most of America had the type of people that “ the county” has, integrity, hardworking, trustworthy and their word is their bond. Keep up the good fight. When the day comes that you cross the great divide to come home to your maker, you will be rewarded for your time here. God Bless brother, merry Christmas.
You teaching the massholes and such how to live here more comfortably rubs me the wrong way . They already started ruining our real estate prices .
They’re coming with or without me. But like attracks like. Most of my client are former military and honor and respect and I will always welcome them
@LiveLifeInMaine if they won't stand up for their home s , they won't stand for ours
If who won’t stand up for their home’s
@@LiveLifeInMaine if massholes and newyorkers allow their hometowns to become tyrannical then what makes you think they will vote like locals
thanks for sharing this information
My pleasure
Love the content!
I want 2 acres in western Maine?
Plenty available out there
Your point regarding the sometimes inaccuracy of town tax maps is apparently correct. A lot abutting my Maine camp/wood lot that I purchased a few years back is listed by the town tax records as 35 acres, it actually surveyed out at just shy of 50 acres. Interestingly two of the four sides are town lines.
Raiders!✌️
Very informative thank you! I’m thinking about moving out there and I’ve used the VA loan back when I was stationed in Colorado and it’s such a blessing. Appreciate the info
Glad it was helpful!
Outstanding video!
I definitely want to move there soon! I love the very cold and deep snow! I’m from New Jersey
Don't move here then. There is hardly any snow at all.
Can you tell me more about the former navy base housing availability in Brunswick? Thank you!
So informative! Thank you very much! I’m looking to move in the next 6 mos or so (ish). Can you share any info about the Brunswick area?
Hi there, per your request, here’s a quick update on Brunswick's real estate market for November: Average Sale Price: $566,071, slightly up from $561,183 in October. Active Listings: 39, compared to 34 in October. Sold Listings: 14, down from 24 the previous month. Sale-to-List Price Ratio: Increased to 104.5% from 101.5% in October. Days on Market (DOM): Up to 30 days from 28 in October. Months of Inventory: Increased to 2.79 from 1.42 in October. These figures suggest the market is slowing down, which is typical for this season. However, this also indicates the housing market in Brunswick is starting to normalize as we adjust to the new home values across the country. Median Home Value: $525,910, showing a modest increase of 0.08% from October and a notable 5.8% growth over the past year. If you have questions about these trends or are curious about buying or selling in Brunswick, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help!
En Kennebunkport también hace ese frío? Siempre he querido vivir allí 😊
The state is really divided up into 3 sections. In the winter Northern Maine which is above Bangor averages 10 to -20 degrees on average in the Winter, Bangor south except along the coast is 10-25 Degrees and along the cost, which includes Kennebunkport averages 25 to 35 degrees on average in the Winter, specifically late Dec, Jan, Feb, early March.
As long as they don’t change the integrity of Maine. I grew up in Maine and moved due to better career choices. Maine is not heading in the right direction currently based on various reasons crime has increased & other issues.
Over the past decade, Maine has consistently maintained one of the lowest crime rates in the United States. Here’s an overview of crime trends in Maine compared to national statistics: Violent Crime: • In 2022, Maine reported a violent crime rate of 103.3 incidents per 100,000 people, the lowest in the nation. • The FBI’s 2023 data indicates a 3.0% decrease in violent crime nationwide compared to 2022. Property Crime: • Maine’s property crime rate has remained relatively stable, with 32 crimes per 1,000 people in both 2021 and 2022. • Nationally, property crime rates increased by 6.7% in 2022, marking the first rise since 2001. Homicides: • Maine experienced 29 homicides in 2022, up from 18 in 2021. Despite this increase, the state’s homicide rate remains significantly below the national average. • Nationally, the estimated number of murder and non-negligent manslaughter offenses decreased by 11.6% in 2023 compared to the previous year. Overall Trends: • Maine’s overall crime rate has remained steady, with 44,373 crimes reported in 2022 compared to 44,637 in 2021. • The state’s consistent low crime rates contribute to its reputation as one of the safest states in the nation. In summary, Maine has maintained low crime rates over the past decade, often outperforming national trends. While certain categories, such as homicides, have seen fluctuations, the state’s overall crime levels remain among the lowest in the U.S.
Born and bred Mainer here. The worst thing about Maine winters is the power outages, but as long as you have the right gear, those can be survived. Fill up your tub and gallon jugs with water so you can still flush the toilets. If you don't have a wood or pellet stove, get an alternate heat source like a kerosene heater. And if you can afford it, get a generator to keep the fridge going so you don't lose your food. Easy peasy.
Lmao Winter in Maine has barely any snow and it barely gets cold.
Appreciate this honest breakdown to set some expectations for Maine!
Been here 4 years and Portland completely sucks. It's a liberal sh#thole
A sanctuary means that police serve and protect all people in the city, regardless of their immigration status. If someone is undocumented, they should feel safe to report a crime without worrying about being locked up themselves. It's safer for everyone. At least that's my understanding.
Undocumented means either in the country without proper approval like crossing a boarded illegally or staying beyond permission like a visa expiration. Neither should be permitted.
@@LiveLifeInMaine I'm not saying illegal activity should be permitted, but it is ICE's responsibility to detain them, not local police. I can give you an analogy. Prostitution is illegal. If a prostitute is raped, she can report the crime without fear of being arrested herself for prostitution - it's police policy. It should be the same for immigrants who are here illegally. Otherwise they will perpetually be victimized by criminals who know that they will always get away with it.
Not a "New Mainer", "From Away" lol
I have to say I live on the west coast and our news just reported that Portland, ME was the most livable city in the USA.
It beat Boston, San Jose etc
That’s awesome. Please share where you heard that. Like to see what they said
@@LiveLifeInMaine It was on KRON 4 News which is a local Bay Area station in California. Not sure where they got the study but I'm sure you can inquire.
@@georgiahamilton4346 Yes, Portland is a great city in New England. One of the best one by far. The OP exaggerated the homeless problem. The whole country has a homeless problem, not just Portland.
How would it be living through a central to northern Maine winter in a modernized 1750's house? Looking to do that next year sometime. From Texas.
Ironically there are a lot of farms houses built in the 1700’s peppered throughout Maine. Northern Maine is going to require the house to be wrapped tight, even so house that old are going to g to be drafty. Lots of wood for burning. Central Maine won’t be as cold depending on where you are but still going to require the home to be winter proof as much as possible. If you have never lived here I guess it would be like me living in Odessa in the middle of summer. You’re in for an adventure but I can promise you it will be rewarding.
Another one that doesn't know the value of diversity. I would rather have my kids exposed to some other cultures than live in blank white suburbia with cookie cutter interests. I grew up in Maine (and lived for a time in 4 other states).. These Maine folk are some of the most judgemental, narrow minded people that exist. Some of us even descended from Salem witch trial families and their thinking (like this guy) has not evolved all that much since then. They want to blame the immigrants, yet most of these immigrants are a better class than their white ancestors that first populated this godforsaken wilderness.
Moving from Louisiana to Maine hopefully January I don’t care about the cold. I’d rather be cold than freaking hot and miserable all the time.
I’m right there with you.
Wow, extreme exaggerations of Portland. I don’t see homeless encampments coming into Portland or Commercial St, Deering Oak Park. Do your research before you spread disinformation. Btw, I live on Brandy Pond in Naples. My house is worth maybe on a good day, $450,000. Cheap for a lake house. I am 40 minutes west of downtown Portland.
I disagree then. Maybe now. apnews.com/article/portland-maine-homeless-encampments-934776f9ce3ff7c8a6eb7f066bad65f2
The police pushed them out. I live off of preble street.
@ Preble Street is not Deering Oaks Park or commercial Street. It’s the street where most of the homeless social service agencies are located. It’s where they can get services.
So you’re saying at the time that this video was posted there was not an encampment off commercial street on the left when you come into town. I’m not the one spreading disinformation. You are. Portland acts like a sanctuary city though it is not. 76 plus million people just voted wanting a different direction. Portland is awesome to visit and there are a lot of good things. That said, I have many friends that have moved out off Portland due to its cost and other issues like the influx on immigrants, some illegally here. Mayor Dion spoke at a conference I was at a couple of months ago, they need close to 200 more employees to meet the demands like snow plowing and public works. I stand 100% behind my video, nice place to visit, would never move there again if things stay the same.
You obviously don't go to Portland much, I'm a lifelong mainah and occasionally have to run into Portland and it is full of homeless junkies and all thier shit .
Basically you and your followers are entitled and racist. Good to know. Lived here over twenty years and it's clear everyday people are mostly cool. It's the entitled racist douche bags like this that make living here suck dick. They don't work and all they do is walk around with their parents money making everyone miserable. If you honestly wanted to make any area in this state good is free Healthcare, housing and education. This state would be eden in no time, but douche bags like this wouldn't get paid and then be able to pretend they are holy blessed people. Maine is awesome but it's douche bags like this that make it hard to survive and trash people to live around. Find some good everyday working class people. Stay as fat away as possible from assholes like this. There's nothing wrong with immigrants or the homeless. If you wanna solve the homeless problem, HIVE THEM HOMES AND HELP! Heartless douche bags. Immigrants are the back bone of the nation. 90 percent of these douche bags are the children of immigrants. It's only the skin color of your immigrants was white while the ones you're trying to make demons is black and brown. Then you try and pretend you're not racist? Rrrrriiiigggghhhtttt! How about read a book and grow the fuck up. Fucking kowards and klowns!
10/10 info wise! You guys killed it! Both of these gents are very reachable and helpful.

Yay I’m the first to view. Love it!
What timing, I am currently seriously contemplating taking an offer for a position in Portland and trying to get a sense of the logistics of how to sell our house out of state and buy in/relocate to greater Portland . This is very useful information. Thank you for making this video and your other videos about the area. I truly appreciate it!
Awesome. If you need help or want to chat let me know
Thanks for the excellent presentation, Scott! This is, by far, the most comprehensive discussion of all the issues that buyers & sellers face when contemplating a move. Question: are you bound to a specific region in Maine, or are you able to personally represent buyers & sellers throughout the entire state? Thanks again for taking the time to create such valuable content.
I handle the whole state. That said, I can do this because I have a team in Bangor which handles from about Waterville North. I am involved in everything, I just am not on the ground consistently north of Waterville.
Hurricanes is why I'm leaving Florida. And the Villages are taking over Florida. Heading to Northern Maine, my husband's home state. Not worried about the cold, lived in Germany, Oregon and Montana.
Never been snowshoeing but man sounds incredible
5 kids- legendary status achieved!
Really enjoy your videos Scott! Thanks and keep them coming. We live in SC but we head to Maine every chance we get. Love the culture and people there.
C'mon. It's winter, man (woman ) up. Get some of the right clothes, learn the how of layering, adapt to weather. Remember boys and girls, you can wear the right gear for cold, but with heat ..... We love the change. Unfortunately warming has meant LESS winter fun as well as lessened insulation for our Downeast place. P.S. We have no central heat or mini splits. The house is 100% heated with firewood in two (count 'em...2 ) EPA wood stoves filled with self harvested firewood from our woodlot. Where is it written that your house has to be at 75 F 24/7 ? Not a big deal to come down in mornings with temps in the 50s. Quick rekindling brings the place up to comfort within an hour. Not a big deal. Northern Europeans don't heat bedrooms, sleep with windows cracked under down comforters, as we do. JMNSHO
Now that’s what I’m talking about.
@@LiveLifeInMaine Note that for many Mainers Portland is 3+ hours south ( more drive time in summer ). What's all this "brutally cold" and "challenging" stuff ? You want brutal and cold, go to mil Winter Training at Camp Drum. I never heard any Norweigian Army people when in mutual maneuvers bring up "cold". Maine latitude is well below most northern lands. C'mon.
