I am an oil painter that is just starting to learn watercolour and I think you did a great job of trying to mimic the strength of oil paint. Maybe instead of trying to mimic oil, try reproducing the scene the way you would normally use watercolour if painting this scene from scratch and then compare the result? I can tell you that I am really struggling to learn watercolour and I think it is because as you mentioned several times watercolour is a different way of thinking then oil, a different approach...thanks for sharing
First of all I thought you were brave to attempt this knowing it was going to be hard. But you got great detailed effects. I think it turned out amazing! Great job. I dont usually comment, but I watch all your videos. I'm new at watercolor and loving it. Your videos are very easy to follow with great I instructions. I greatly admire you.
I am amazed that you pulled this off!! Pat yourself on the back because I know that Bob is probably up in heaven looking down and just shaking his head with a big smile on his face.
I used to love Bob Ross and watching him. I'd dream of doing a painting with him.. Well now Emma, you have inspired me in my watercolor painting and I dream of painting with you. Thank you for inspiring so many of us! I have learned so much from you.
Emma that was lots of fun. You did a great job. Watercolor is so different and you can create your own version and there are only HAPPY ACCIDENTS! You've inspired those who do watercolor painting especially regarding the reflections (my opinion). Go girl!!!
It came out beautiful. Stop being so hard on yourself when painting. Don’t think you were cheating with the white ink. White watercolor just doesn’t work.
Deborah Vick White watercolor can add a soft white “glow”. Ditto for does not work for adding crisp details. I use a combination of white ink & gel pens - which seeing as the gel pen is water soluble i scribble onto a surface and pick up w/water & paintbrush also hells for if you need the highlight but need to “melt” (w/water) so of the edges
I applaud you, Emma! I think your piece looks AMAZING! Watercolor is a harder color medium especially when you’re re-creating an acrylic painting! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Iloveeeeeed your previous videos and florals but now...... I love everything even more!! You're branching out and I'm learning with every videos your put out here. You're such an amazing person for sharing your passion with everybody here! 🤩😍🥰
Wow! I can't believe you even attempted to do with watercolor what Bob Ross does with oils or acrylics. Amazing job and thanks for opening yourself up to doing so on camera without knowing the results. I could watch you paint for hours. Many thanks!
Love how this style turned out in watercolor, well done! I'm always amazed at how much it really makes it POP when you add final highlights. The white for water reflection as it hits the rocks and land was a perfect final touch :D
I have often wondered what it would be like to try and mimic Bob Ross in Watercolor and I think you did it! Exact? No.... but each artist is an individual also, and I think you definitely nailed the concept, look, and feel of Bob Ross’ painting.
I love hearing you talk out loud to ur self. I think the same things. I think it looks great. I was hoping u were going to speak like bob too. Happy little mountains!
I agree So Very much. Bob Ross, will Always be my favorite "current day oil artist" (I never missed a show as a kid and into teens)... your water color piece is a Gorgeous rendition of his oil. It's almost a "Salute" ... they're both warm.. but, it's like someone using a filter lense for a varied effect of one landscape. Gorgeous!
Nailed it! The blue wash of shadow you put on the water at the end is what pulled it all together. It was amazing to watch how it just pushed the pine trees to the background and pulled your greener abstract trees and the rocks to the foreground, and made the water ... watery-er. This is a great idea! Next time i have a free hour I'm going to try one! I this video pulled me out of a painting rut. Thank you very much for all your videos. Really enjoying the variety of subjects these days :)
I am blown away by how good this turned out!!! I didn't think it was possible, just because the mediums are so different, but you did an amazing job!!! Thank you for explaining throughout the process about the differences between oils and watercolor. You are an awesome artist. I love your work and your videos!! Thank you!!
I love your vulnerability to do this and how you manage that with effort, problem-solving and humor! And btw... I've been such a big Bob Ross fan that I have a Bob Ross toaster (burns his image into the toast), a Bob Ross pez dispenser and many other collectables. Lol. What a wonderful teaching experience for you and learning experience for your subscribers because these truly are such different mediums! One of my fave vids by far! (I've painted with oils to his videos before, dabbled with acrylics and now because of you trying my hand at watercolors... "Jack of all trades, master at none" seems to be my compass. Keep up with this. Thank you!
I am an oil painter and I struggle with using watercolor. I learned by watching your video that you can mimic an oil painting using watercolor. I learned how you use the brush to paint with watercolors and the difference between the two. I think your painting came out great and I am anxious to try watercolor again!
OMG! I haven't even clicked start on the video! Absolutely awesome idea! Edit: I've just viewed the Bob Ross tutorial for this and your finished painting! Stop dissing yourself! This is amazing! Watercolour is soooooo much harder than acrylic or oil! You have truly turned a corner with your painting doing this! As for the copyright, if I've researched correctly Bob Ross wanted to bring art and painting to the masses! In addition he made very little money frtom his actual TV series. Not to mention, I've seen soooo many youtube videos of people replicating Bob Ross videos onto canvas or their bedroom walls that it isn't funny. Those videos are still on UA-cam! Bob would say..... "It's a happy accident!"
I think you did a great job!! The beauty of watercolor shines through! Glad u didn’t give up on the trees... you let that area play with your head, but good recovery! Really enjoyed this...I had bob playing on my iPad with volume.... much easier with his voice.
I think your first try at a Bob Ross painting using water colors is very good, please don't discard it, frame it and enjoy! As a certified Ross instructor, oils have always been my passion. Watercolors are beautiful and I have been trying to learn by watching you, by the way just like Bob with his oils you make watercolors look so easy. I enjoy watching your video's, keep them coming. I love watercolor flowers and am trying to learn so that I can use them on greeting cards, your flower painting's would make beautiful cards. Thank you for sharing this video, it inspires me very much!
I watch Bob Ross on PBS. Always thought I’d try it in watercolor. You did a great job. I think I can try it now. I really like your watercolor videos. You make them very doable. Thank you for posting your watercolor videos on UA-cam.
I think Bob would be proud of you! Nice job! 💖 (Bob used oils btw, not acrylic lol... I've done a few of his paintings in acrylic and it's much easier than watercolor! When I read your title, all I could think was "What has she done to herself??".. Lol)
I think you did awesome Emma! Watercolor is so different but you made it work. Great job! Not cheating at all to get the effect of lighter color. I love it. Bob would be proud! 💕🤗
I've been learning a bit recently because my 8 year old was gifted some kuretaki gansai paints. Unrelated, we just watched this Bob Ross episode, so the mix of looking up gansai painting basics and Bob Ross apparently got me here. I did see someone else use minimal water and heavy pigment to get more of the stippled tree effect and also mixed some color into straight white watercolor to add those highlights and snow and things. But it looked like they worked it using numerous light layers and letting them all dry. But I think you're 100% right about using wet on wet for the reflections due to the increased dispersion and softening. Fun to see and your final painting came out pretty solid overall. Especially for a first attempt at something like this!
Emma, art is subjective & the rules are changing this decade as I've heard from the "biggies." What once was for Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, etc., isn't so much anymore. "We're" changing, shaking things up this century--art's taking a new form. And for translating Bob Ross into watercolor? I applaud you! I've tried many times to no avail. It looks GREAT! I'm proud of you and you should be also! Frances Turano Denver, CO
Emma, I think you did a good job on this painting! A stiffer brush for the "stippling" would make the greenery easier to paint and add more texture-- maybe a stiff fan brush. The white ink is a great idea and makes the whole painting come alive. It's a clever idea to add color to the white ink, which I love to use. One could also use a rough sponge for the trees. Your videos are super and greatly appreciated!
So, what I have observed from watching this, is that if you want to try a watercolour from an oil/acrylic tutorial - Watch the tutorial first!!! Then you can adjust the order in which you paint with watercolour so that you can get the light shading in there first and add the darker shades later. Having said that, Emma it looks amazing. Well Done!
Hi Emma it's so fun to watch you follow Bob;s Video because when I follow your video I talk just like that then I rewind again and again. you done great job painting look beautiful.😘❤ love watching you😘❤
" I " think its a very beautiful picture. You have done a great job. I've always wondered how a picture like that is done and now I know. Thankyou. It's beautiful. Great great work.
Wow!!!! I have to stop and say that you should pat yourself on the back already at 7 mins in the first mountain you do is awesome the thought of doing a bob Ross painting in watercolor has crossed my mind in the past. I cant believe how nice you made your mountain i know bc ive done them with the pallet knives and you just showed me it can be done in watercolor like i said before sometimes i feel like your hearing my thoughts lol. wow im really tickled by this go Emma!
I think it looks fantastic Emma! Great job!! You made a beautiful landscape watercolor painting that looks very close to his! Love Bob Ross!! What a genius. 😊
Looking at an opaque painting and translating to transparent painting is like patting your head and rubbing your stomach. This is the problem I have trying to learn how to watercolor paint. like you found, the hardest part is the white highlights. Something he uses a lot in his paintings. You captured the essence of the painting very well. Kudos to you!
It IS pretty FANTASTIC! I like it better than Bob Ross's. Yours is more vivid and the mountains just POP. I've painted using oil following Bob Ross's tutorials many, many years ago and just started watercolor in the last year or so. Watercolor is so different than oil and acrylic so don't feel like you were cheating. This video is a good experiment that shows the differences in the 2 styles. Watercolor is a much harder style to master than oil and acrylic so GOOD JOB!!!
I think this vid is fun! I also like your painting. I like that you was talking your way through the painting and saying things like' "oh, he's putting in shadow so I need to highlight". That is useful. The highlights at the end was amazing how it gave so much depth. I never thought of highlights that way before. I always think about shadows giving depth. Thumps up!
You did great! The mountains were Fantastic & gave me good tips on how to paint the shadows & highlights for those. I would love to see more landscapes from you, but I always love the flowers too, really anything you do!
You challenged yourself to do something different and that is how we learn! It came out pretty similar. I have tried to paint while following a video and sometimes it turns out but rarely can I follow at same speed someone who has more experience. I think if had the mountain reflection dry on me I might have taken some lake color and tried some ripples horizontally over the reflection or a wash over. I am but a novice at this so not sure😊 Always enjoy your tutorials😊
You did great! I really enjoyed watching this. The opaque white paint is used a lot with watercolors, so it’s not cheating. Maybe this will inspire you to try more landscapes.
I think this would make a good follow-up " How to Paint " watercolor like Bob Ross. You did it his way & results are fabulous! Now, how would you do it for Watercolor, Emma's way. ??? Gold Star. ! I see no mud. Which you should have with all that after the fact stuff! Great job.
when you are adding in the later land masses, have you tried rewetting with a mister or sprayer (use a edge to mask off unwanted areas)? it will help soften the edges.
Emma, it's fantastic! Well done you!!! I don't hear any watercolor police sirens! 😁The white ink is a nice addition for highlights! What great encouragement to viewers to try new things!

You have done a great job. I am impressed! U are so good at what u do.
That's what I was thinking to while watching this. Use Bob's desighn in a watercolor forum not as a one to one application
First of all I thought you were brave to attempt this knowing it was going to be hard. But you got great detailed effects. I think it turned out amazing! Great job. It’s beautiful!!!!! Wowed personally.
Emma this is awesome lol.... Your doing great it looks like his work. Remember " There are no mistakes only happy Accidents" lol. Awesome.
That’s even more true for watercolor! Some of my happy accidents have turned out to be the best part of my painting 😆
I have often wondered what it would be like to try and mimic Bob Ross in Watercolor and I think you did it! Exact? No.... but each artist is an individual also, and I think you definitely nailed the concept, look, and feel of Bob Ross’ painting.

I think she is aware Bob used oil, and was making the point that watercolour is different to acrylic and oil, as many copy his work in acrylic.
she finished it, did a beautiful job...and was still "happy"
@@cannedmusic right?! She's did an amazing job of recreating one of his paintings and it wasn't easy either.. Kudos to her for sure! 💖
The branches totally help. The mountains are great!
I love Bob Ross and I love this painting!! You really captured his landscape style with watercolor!! I really enjoyed watching this come to life 👍👍😃😃
I think you did awesome Emma! Watercolor is so different but you made it work. Great job!
Not cheating at all to get the effect of lighter color. I love it.
Bob would be proud! 💕🤗
That was fun. I love Bob Ross. Thank you.
Love it. Bob painted in oils only not acrylic, but he would be proud. Thanks for not giving up and showing us how to keep working through the struggle
The white ink truly helped with the waterline! The whole picture turned out beautifully!

Great job Emma! I love Bob Ross and I think he would’ve loved what you've accomplished with this. What a fun challenge!

You are so brave doing this on Camera Emma. Lovely job.
Keep on being brave, you've got what it takes. Mary xxx
Wow, that's really impressive! Very different mediums, and the layering of oils is so different than watercolor layering. Great job!
You are delightful to watch. Thanks for sharing your talent.
You are natural, Emma! Well done! You can proud of yourself 👍
Hi Emma it's so fun to watch you follow Bob;s Video because when I follow your video I talk just like that then I rewind again and again. you done great job painting look beautiful.😘❤ love watching you😘❤

You are beyond awesome, this is so beautiful. I'm glued to my screen, watching you
Keep doing more of these - you've got very good instincts. Great painting!
Excellent way to demonstrate the difference between acrylic and watercolor.
Yours looks so much better to me! The mountains look amazing.
I think you did a FANTASTIC job on this landscape!!!!

Bloody marvelous. I wish I could paint that quickly and that confidently. You did a wonderful job!!!
I love you. I've always heard you have to work through the ugly to get to the beauty. You just proved it!
It’s NOT a disaster! I’m loving it and you’re so funny! I love when you’re talking to Bob! White ink isn’t cheating, it’s smart! You go Girl!
This was a real treat! My 2 favorite painters!
I think you did an amazing job! So difficult to cross mediums, especially acrylic to watercolor. Bravo!
Thumps up!
Great job, Emma!! This is an amazing re-creation of his oil work!! So difficult! Congrats!!!
It’s beautiful........I’d be proud! Well done Emma!
you did a great job Emma. Your painting would make Bob Ross proud!
Great job, I liked the way you improvised as you went, it was like working in reverse/up side down. 💕
Love it and your watercolor tips along the way! Thanks, Emma!
I like this picture! I will try it. You are a great teacher! I enjoy to learn painting with watercolour from your videos. Thank you so much! Take care
You did great! The mountains were Fantastic & gave me good tips on how to paint the shadows & highlights for those. I would love to see more landscapes from you, but I always love the flowers too, really anything you do!
I think it turned out great. I especially love the right side of the painting because it looks so real!
Wow! At first I thought, what are you doing with the big tree.. But in the and it looks just like a tree with bushes! So beautiful!
I think it’s a great job. It’s beautiful. I diffidently learned a lot about highlights and shadows. They add so much to paintings.
That was fun! I hope you do more like this.
Your painting turned out beautifully. Great work. Love it.
Emma!! Its amazing I actually prefer yours!! The reflections look far more realistic your awesome!! X
Great job! I thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration. And you painting turned out very well. Thanks for taking it on.
yes, this is really phantastic. Not only what you show us, it is also incredible, what you learned the last years 🥰 Congrats for you 🥳
Emma, you are so brave...love it!
i love this painting! I appreciate your willingness to use the white ink and also the black! Thank you for sharing this fun process!
You did great! I really enjoyed watching this. The opaque white paint is used a lot with watercolors, so it’s not cheating. Maybe this will inspire you to try more landscapes.
Nice job, Bob Ross always painted in oils, he got me into oil painting in the 70s!
Loved him!!!
It turned out great, Emma. Fantastic job!
I think this would make a good follow-up " How to Paint " watercolor like Bob Ross. You did it his way & results are fabulous! Now, how would you do it for Watercolor, Emma's way. ??? Gold Star. ! I see no mud. Which you should have with all that after the fact stuff! Great job.
You are just putting your own spin on it ... I think you did a great painting, I am sure Bob would be pleased!
I love the softness of the watercolour. Well done.x
It turned out great for your first time! Thanks for sharing 😀💜
I think it turned out beautiful! It's like reverse painting. I think it was brilliant! Good job. Love your videos! 💚💜💙
when you are adding in the later land masses, have you tried rewetting with a mister or sprayer (use a edge to mask off unwanted areas)? it will help soften the edges.
Did a great job. Love your version of the painting.
Fantastic. Great job. Oil painting is hard to replicate. You underrate yourself. Excellent job
Wow Emma! Very impressive. I’ll have to give this a try. 🎨
Emma, it's fantastic! Well done you!!! I don't hear any watercolor police sirens! 😁The white ink is a nice addition for highlights! What great encouragement to viewers to try new things!
Looks beautiful, you did a great job.l love Bob Ross, I used to watch him every day. He is a great artist.and you are too. Have a wonderful day😊💕
Happy little trees. Good job! This was fun to watch.
I think it turned out wonderful! I love your mountains!!
You are just awesome and your outcome is beautiful!! I love watching you paint
Great job! Way to have FUN with painting!!! Thank you for all of your inspiration!!!
