I was gifted a ticket to watch the concert and was seated next to my friend’s friend who was not a big fan but said,”wow so theatrical!” after this song was performed.
This song is from around 2004, she wrote it for one of the two musicals she was working on back then. Actually, she was supposed to have premiered this song during the re-invention tour. It would be in the place of deeper and deeper but in the end it made no sense to premiere a song in a tour that celebrated her 20 years in the business. Many of the songs of those musicals appeared in confessions, hard candy and mdna. This one was reworked with Timberlake and sounds a lot like his ‘cry me a river’ song. One of my favourites off this album and on the concert! Sending you love, ladies
@ we don’t know much about them. The little info we have is that one is a love story that involves time travel and the other one would take place in Paris in the 1930’s. We do know that Hung Up, Future Lovers, Get Together, Voices, Devil, Gang Bang and a few others were written during this period (2003-2004) and they were meant for the musicals but we can’t really pinpoint on which. Also there were demos that leaked that would be for these projects, such as Boum and I’m In Love With Love.
Thank you so much for sharing that helpful info (as always! 😉)! ❤️❤️ "It would be in the place of deeper and deeper but in the end it made no sense to premiere a song in a tour that celebrated her 20 years in the business." That's very understandable. It's really fascinating how she reworked certain songs from these musicals and incorporated them into different albums. Biggest hugs and lots of love right back to you! ❤️
Don't know if anyone has recommended "She's Not Me" It's one she does on the next couple tours so good to be familiar with it. It has a sharp, barbed wire humor to it that I think you'd enjoy. ❤️
My favorite song of the album, wait to see her performing it live. Every time I listen to this song I get memories of a bad past relationship that happened to me. Madonna's music is my soundtrack life. Brenda and Emily you are so adorable, thank you so much for continuous doing this Madonna journy ❤️
You surprised me again. I was not expecting this. Wait till you see her perform this live. S&S tour. It’s awesome. Perhaps a reaction to Candyshop and She’s Not Me? There should have been videos for these. Can’t wait for the next video! ♥️🍭
This was Madonna's last album under contract with Warner Brothers. DWRY is one of the few standouts and another great track co-written with her brother-in-law, Joe Henry (Don't Tell Me, Jump, Falling Free). Their collaborative songwriting always seems to have a sense of relatability and defiance. Magic!! 🎇
Thanks! I always wanted to know when she dropped them. This tour made her so much money and she was even then #1 concert sales in Guinness Book of Records. She got 💩💩ty promotion after dropping them. I love Falling Free and still mad it didn't make it into an ending of one of her tours.
Thank you for sharing that info with us! ❤️❤️ "Their collaborative songwriting always seems to have a sense of relatability and defiance. Magic!! 🎇" Absolutely! Big hugs ❤️
Hello girls! I wanted to point out a song that came out just before Hard Candy. The song is called Sing and by Annie Lennox in which she involved Madonna and many others sung for the choir Coe Dido, Celin Dion, Pink Shakira etc. All to raise funds against AIDS
Hi Brenda and Emily, nice to see you react to an album track and as always enjoy your commentary on the lyrics. The live version on the sticky and sweet tour elevates this song to a much higher level, I’m sure you will love it 😊
I never get tired of this song along with a similarly dark track "Voices" which u should try and listen to which i always thought was about her brother. I'm sure someone in these comments will tell me otherwise...
I love this song too. I am so glad you’re enjoying this album so far even though it one that splits the fans. I think there are some great songs on this album.
This is one she did with Justin Timberlake. She was a big fan of his album at the time. Many people said this song sounds like Justin’s Cry me a River. It’s a nice blend of JT and M.
i had to run and press play, this is a masterpiece! edit, because i had to add in retrospect: i think you nailed it with the Push connection. same for how Voices is a very confused counterpoint to Like It or Not.
One of my favorites along with SHE IS NOT ME. Looks like a movie soundtrack And yes, it gives you kind of eerie feeling through the sound effects and lyrics
produced by Timbaland and Justin Timberlake u can hear the Cry Me A River influence here and JT sings background vocals. Always have been one of my all time fav Madonna songs and so underrated i wish it had a music video Guy Ritchie will pay for his crimes !
Tangent. But you mentioned the notion of “pushing” one another in a relationship. Even remembered the mention of this in the documentary. There is a song called PUSH on confessions that you should listen to. It’s exactly this idea. And you guys are always in sync with her …
Happy New Year. Kylie Minogue has a song titled "Better the Devil You Know' I always get the titles mixed up with the artists. I hope you are both well. ♥️
Bonsoir!!! What a surprise! You are full of surprise and it's good! This song was on my top during hard candy era... Hope next will be "beat goes on" before the sticky and sweet tour! Whatever you will react, it will be a pleasure anyway. 😊 Big hugs from your little frenchy 🎉❤
Yes the song has that dreamy otherworldly feel to it. And yes we can all relate to the lyrics at some point. The last track on the album is called Voices and it takes the distortion to the next level. The ending is powerfully jarring. You two are my go to reactions when I need lifted and enlightened with your wisdom. Till next time, keep em coming.
Before the tour reaction we need a candy shop reaction. After the sticky and sweet tour Madonna made sure to add it to the setlist for almost every tour after lol
Such a great song hidden in her underrated album Hard Candy. As my fellas here say, the live version is awesome. I agree with you with that spooky and dark side of her music that fits so well with her (as we saw in Frozen) and would be so nice to have a video of the song; in the future you'll find other songs of her approaching to that "dark atmosphere". Nice video Emily and Brenda, my best wishes for you!
Aww, thank you so much! ❤️❤️ "...in the future you'll find other songs of her approaching to that "dark atmosphere". " Can't wait to hear those (and yes, Frozen is another great example)! Sending lots of love to you ❤️
Listen to the live version out of this world it's the best song on the album. If you listen to the live version it's mixed with eurythmics very very clever
Love this song and love your reaction to it even more !!! Cant wait to see you watch The sticky & sweet tour ! Will you do doing it song by song like Confessions ?
Aww, you're very sweet - Thank you! ❤️❤️ We're planning to do the S&S tour in four segments like the previous ones (before Confessions). Really looking forward to it! Big hugs ❤️
Definitely my favourite song on the album! As Brenda described, there is a feeling of restlessness & tension throughout the song, from the haunted synths to the steel cold instrumental, which is perfectly contrasted by the warmth of her voice & the acoustic guitar. Oh and don’t worry! The live performance from the Sticky & Sweet Tour makes up 100% for the lack of a MV 👌

Thank you ladies so much for your reaction to this song💙 When I first heard this song, I had the same feelings as you. Now you have to react to the song Hlasy (a reaction to her ex-husband at the time) and the song Across The Sky. These two songs will definitely not disappoint you💙😉
ua-cam.com/video/4KYEgJN0Yh4/v-deo.htmlsi=TuxatgCgz69kFDAQ Here's the other song written for Hello Suckers, the musical Madonna was working on before eventually being scrapped. Obviously way before the Hard Candy project came into play. I think both them of them are beautiful.
Hard Candy has some unfavorable opinions but this song and Miles Away are so freaking amazing!! ✨. Please react to the live version of the Sticky and Sweet Tour. ❤. ¡Saludos!!
This track is a hidden gem as it was not released as a single. At least the Sticky and Sweet Tour made the song mesmerizing! You have to check out “She’s Not Me” and “Voices.” For a cringe 😬 worthy track, “Spanish Lesson” one that you either love it or hate it. I am in the latter category.
Can't wait to hear this on the tour! ❤️❤️ And thank you for the recommendations! "For a cringe 😬 worthy track, “Spanish Lesson” one that you either love it or hate it. I am in the latter category." 😂 Big hugs!❤️
I Hope You Ladies Will react to a few unreleased tracks from the Hard Candy Era. Animal, Broken, Across the Sky (Another JT Collaboration). 😇 Have A Nice Day !
This is why Hard Candy is better than COAD. Not a competition..different eras for M but Devil is a great track... and Voices, Miles Away, Ring my Bell is fun... She's Not Me is quintessential M. Hard Candy didn't get the love it deserved and still does. Spanish Lesson should have been left off though. AND there were much better pictures from the photoshoots she should have chosen to be the album cover. Because we all know M gets the last word on everything!
You should definitely have “listening parties” for her next albums MDNA and Rebel Heart, because the unreleased songs from both albums are better than the singles, generally speaking. As far as “Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You”, it’s not one of the better songs from the Hard Candy album, though unfortunately there aren’t many good ones to begin with from this particular era 😢😢 The tour is great though, so there’s that…
Great reaction ladies! The live version is amazing! Aww, thank you so much! ❤️❤️ And thank you for providing those links - It's so helpful when we're trying to find the best versions to watch! Lots of love and big hugs to you ❤️
I mean...this song isn't as overproduced as most on this album... But I dunno why anyone would recommend it. It wasn't a single and really the best part of this album is the tour after it (the second I went to--I bought my then boyfriend now husband tickets for his birthday. It was 2008 and gay marriage in California was legal from June to November that year, so I performed a wedding for two of my friends that morning, got a bit tipsy at their reception, and then ran off to see her in Oakland. And had multiple emotional breakdowns during the show....)
Wow - What a concert story!! What a wonderful birthday gift for your boyfriend (now husband)! ❤️❤️ And we can definitely relate to the emotional breakdowns during her shows... Sending lots of love your way! ❤️
It's definitely a standout song on the album, pity it sounds like a copy-paste version of Cry Me A River on the instrumentation. I can't even hear her half the time due to the overbearing noise from beats. The lyrics and harmonies from both Justin and Madonna are incredible. Thank you ladies
The production on this album was way too overbearing and tired. I think songs like this one had a little potential that was completely quashed by Timbland’s heavy hand. This song sounds like the umpteenth remake of JT’s “Cry Me a River” Hard Candy was the first era when Madonna started really phoning it in.
I think she is talking about her ex husband 👀👀👀🫠🫠🫠 girls there also many unreleased tracks from this album that is soooo good.. like across the sky ft Justin Timberlake … it’s amazing
The live version is WOW!
totally agree!!!
Agreed. That stealth screen with the rain/water is what I mentally picture everytime I hear this song. A total highlight of the tour.
The live version is fantastic!
That's the only way I hear it while listening to this 🥹🥹🥹
I was gifted a ticket to watch the concert and was seated next to my friend’s friend who was not a big fan but said,”wow so theatrical!” after this song was performed.

I love that song. My favorite part is the "Never Will Be" part at the end of this song .
Thank you for that recommendation! We'll have to check it out! ❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️this song! Wait till you see this performed in StickyNSweet tour.
Thank you ladies, great reaction.

One of my favourite songs. 👍

I agree with you with that spooky and dark side of her music that fits so well with her (as we saw in Frozen) and would be so nice to have a video of the song; in the future you'll find other songs of her approaching to that "dark atmosphere". Can't wait to hear this song live! ❤️❤️
The song Voices from the same album also deserves a listen, it has great lyrics.
Thank you for the recommendation! ❤️❤️
Can't wait for the sticky and sweet tour version, with Lola on the piano. This song is my favorite from this album, together with Miles Away.
So great you are diving into her deep cuts, they are worth it!
Oh wow - That sounds fantastic!! ❤️❤️ So looking forward to this tour!
Love this song and love your reaction to it even more !!! Cant wait to see you watch The sticky & sweet tour ! Will you do doing it song by song like Confessions ?

@ can wait to see it ! Was the first Madonna show I went to, it’s definitely her most fun concert !!!
happy new year girls !!!
Happy New Year to you too! Much love and happiness to you in 2025! ❤️❤️

Such a perfect description of this song!
We can't wait for the tour! Big hugs to you ❤️❤️
❤❤❤
ooh nice choice
❤️❤️
The Hard Candy era was too short. I think Beat Goes On would've worked as the 4th single, then Devil Wouldn't Recognize You as the 5th single.
Agreed! ❤️❤️
Thank you ladies so much for your reaction to this song💙 When I first heard this song, I had the same feelings as you.
Now you have to react to the song Hlasy (a reaction to her ex-husband at the time) and the song Across The Sky. These two songs will definitely not disappoint you💙😉

Her then husband wanted her to slow down and be more of a stay at home housewife.
That sounds yikes! ❤️❤️
I’m surprised a music video was never made
