In my younger years, I felt some kind of way about being boyfriend-less on Vday. But now I see it as an intentional opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms. I used to look forward to showering my Mom with flowers and her favorite candy. I used to take my aunts flowers. I buy myself gifts and flowers all the time, so I don’t wait for Vday to do that…but still enjoy wearing pink or red, or pink and red on the 14th.
And regarding your comment about consumerism… Isn’t EVERY holiday made for consumerism? We all know Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th, but we still buy into the hype and consumerism. It’s the most commercialized holiday of them all!
