Thank you very much for taking the time to make this very detailed tutorial which allowed me to change the ford truck belt. Great job !! Congratulations from France
Great video and yes took about 2 hours. None of the other similar videos show the lock pin tensioner detail. I did spend additional time sorting out the 38 mm. socket as the only size here I had was 3/4" drive. For a future job I would buy a 1/2" 38mm. socket. I was able to unbolt and wriggle the fan assy out of the engine bay (with difficulty) - This helped greatly to improve access for my 3/4" ratchet drive and also to view the pressure pump timing marks.
Thanks for the vid, just did mine hopefully good for a few more years! First cam belt I’ve done, wouldn’t have attempted without your video so thanks again.
i might own the ford in the future and your video was excelent! i should be able to do it thanks to your step by step awesome video. thank you. apreciate it brother
B2500 was single SOHC in previous generation in most countries . The 2.5/3.0 ltr in the PJ PK Ranger is Direct Inj DOHC turbo ,,same in the Mazda UN model BT50 . Often referred to as WLC 2.5ltr // WEC 3.0ltr
hi some tensioners come in 2 pieces and must be compressed and then pinned . Or if u have a pinned unit and pin comes out repin is ideal . Dealer did my t/belt and injector pump and the 2 piece tensioner was not collapsed and pinned at 70,000km. At 100k we found the tensioner bolt tight but tensioner destroyed from incorrect install ,,OH YEA the belt was way way loose . DOH effects 2.5 and 3.0ltr versions
What about keeping the hydraulic sub assembly hard against the tensioner pulley? What's the procedure if both become separated before install? Eg no rubber sleeve on the bolt from factory to help the two stay together?
Hi changed my belt yesterday but I came across two white lines painted on the bottom pulley and a white line painted on the back of the cover but now it’s got loud tapping and it’s down on power I set it up how you showed in the video someone else has been in there before so I’ve no idea how they set it up
so did you have to move any of your pulleys once the belt was off? depends they may have just simply paint marked it In an location and just swopped the belt at that point
Hi, amazing video, thank you very much!!! Just a couple of questions if you don't mind since it will be my first time doing the timing belt on a diesel engine.... is it actually so easy to manually rotate it? In the gasoline engines it becomes easier once you pull the spark plugs out... And also is it really necessary to have such a short 38mm socket or is it doable with a "normal" one? Thanks a lot!!!!
Thanks for the video. I am going to have my timing belt replaced this week on my Ranger PJ Diesel Auto. It looks like it is do-able for the home mechanic. But what your video shows is that this is not a huge job, and when dealing with mechanics it gives an idea on how much labour is involved. Looking at your video I would expect to pay no more than 2 hours labour. What are your thoughts?
Hi, great video. I’m about to change the cam belt on a BT50. The tensioner has failed so the belt spins on the bottom pulley. Is that catastrophic on these engine and could I have bent valves? Or as you mentioned broken cam shafts? Cheers.
Hello thanks for the video im thinking to buy a ford ranger 2.5 tdci . What you thinking about that car and that motor is it good enough to buys today one ?
Have you done a bid on removing the DIESEL HP pump removal from the bottom pulley of the timing belt called the HP Pump supply pulley ?? for a 2010 Ranger PK Diesel 3L ?
As long as you line all them pulleys up mate you wont have any bother... if your timing was out (from belt issue of valve failure etc) then you would need to set it all up but if you are just replacing the belt id just mark them all 👌
My tensioner broke the other day. Replaced the tensioner and damged belt. Engine just does not want to start. Is there a way to check where the crank position is to make sure of the timing? Or do you think i should check the valves? I hear a hard deep knock when i try to start and the return pipe on one injector seems wet from diesel
When you say the tension broke, I presume it collapsed and the belt came off? Or atleast damage led everything enough to put the timing completely out?
@@diydaly yeah. Everything was out. So need to check the timing. Did align properly again. And it feels like i have compression when i turn the motor over
@@plantnerdsa if you’ve got you reg number I’ll get you the proper procedure on pdf.. just before Doug. Anything though I’d take the rocker cover off and have a look.. we’ve had 2 with snapped cambelts and both had just broke a few rockers .. take the cover off and check them
@@jackdellaway2746 tbh im not sure exactly , I haven't done one, id have to check but im sure they are totally different, I could easily be wrong though
How’s it, just a question... If the tensioner pin on the new tensioner happens to come out for some reason, are you able to put it back in and fit it? Or would you have to buy a whole new tensioner? Cheers
@@horimaikuku1556 bit hard to describe it in writing but basically it’s just sprung loaded so you need to find a way of holding the back while loading the tension on to refit the pin , you mind be-able to bolt it up finger tight the do it with an Allen key
Sorry what I was meant to say was... that the hydraulic actuator has become seperate from the tensioner pulley... and the piston of the actuator has completely exited the hydraulic chamber... I don’t know where the piston is
@@diydaly There is ALWAYS a need to check the timing lines up properly. You are working on the assumption the timing isn’t already a tooth out. Very unprofessional indeed !!
@Jake Gulliver hi Jake , P0340 is the camshaft sensor , if the sensor is ok the first thing I’d do Is remove the cover and see if you can get the Cambelt timing marks to align .. the crank shaft timing is set through marks on the gear wheels where they mesh

Hey, great video, what differences do you have to make if the old belt is already damaged and missing half the rubber teeth
nothing too different mate as long as you can align to the marks correctly
Thank you for the video...how often should the belt be changed ?
Thanks.. Autodata states every 75,000 miles/72 months (which ever comes first)
If belt breaks? Do you still align three marks or there is another step we have to follow ?
Thank you mate
grazie, molto interessante a breve la farò anche io

We had one in with belt failure before and it had just smashed all the rockers.. replaced all the broken rockers and good to go again 👍👍
Hey mate,
Would replacing the cambelt in the 3 litre 2007 mazda bt50 be along the same lines as this one.
tbh im not 100% sure .. ill do bit of digging and let you know if I find out 👌

Hi mate, is it interference or non interference engine?
Hi, I may have missed it but was there a link to the shallow 38mm socket, TIA.
Hi dan, yeah its there mate -38mm shallow socket - amzn.to/3oqCYlR
Oi! Can you explain to me how to replace my airco magnetic thingamajig!? Much appreciated
Hi mate im afraid ive never replace one yet!
Thanks great video, what happens when the timing belt snaps while driving?
After how many Kilometers/miles should the timing belt be changed
The valves will have contact with the pistons but the normally break the rockers rather than bent the valves
The interval is 5 years or 60k I think 👌👍
So the belt arrow should be facing anti clockwise?
clockwise
