Loved this So glad to see a video like this on primus albums I gotta go with pork soda myself, the second half dips for sure. If the first half was simply an EP on its own, it would be perfect. I think that shorter format of an Ep too would better suite that albums vibe, but obviously they were working in the constraints of the full length album. I like to think of the second half as b sides, dvd extras to an EP maybe The dark and filthy quirkiness of pork soda to me is just peak primus Anyway, loved the video!
Hey Rob! HUGE fan man thank you so much for checking out my video! Yeah I agree if the first half was it's own release it would most likely be my favorite release by them. Again, thank you so much for commenting it means a lot!
I love how Rob occasionally comments on Primus related videos and it goes mostly unseen. Just shows how much he truly cares about smaller creators like that.
It’s sad how many people hate on Antipop. In my opinion lacquer head has one of the best bass lines and the heckler has a face melting guitar riff. And Eclectic Electric has such a chill vibe while still sounding like primus. Oh and also Ballad of Bodacious is a catchy ass song
I remember liking that Primus & the Chocolate Factory album. Green Naugahyde as well. I think LaLonde's guitar shines on these 2, but I can never say no to those 1st 2 records!
Anti-Pop is a massively under appreciated album. Definitely their most accessible and of course Herbs not in the band but ....still love this album. PRIMUS SUCKS!!
Need to get into primus only know some of the big singles and i like them even if they are pretty weird. Also a ranking on the clash would be pretty hype
Best way to get into Primus is listen to their “hits compilation” They Can’t All Be Zingers and Suck On This (their live debut album/demo) then if you like most of those jump into Frizzle Fry and if you like that album then continue on. That’s how I got into Primus so maybe that’ll help you
Glad to see The Desaturating Seven in the Top 5. I remember it not being received very well by a lot of fans. But it's Primus' proggy side at its best. I saw them live for the first time around that time, and while the classics were great to hear, I really was looking forward to the Rainbow Goblin songs the most. They delivered. Great visuals on stage, too. They played "Jilly's on Smack" that night too. Super underrated song.
Great to see Primus here, one of my all time favorites! I do like Antipop a lot too, it's their most metal/thrashy sounding album I think. I also have a few EP's/live/cover cd's like Miscellaneous debris, Rhinoplasty and Suck on this that are very good. Would be cool if you could list their best songs, I'm having a hard time thinking about that already : )

Great video! Love your in depth analysis of each album. While I understand what you said about Pork Soda, seeing Nature Boy and Hamburger Train live completely changed my opinion of the album. Those songs on the “B Side” translate super well live. Anyway, Here’s my top 3 Primus albums. 1. Frizzle Fry 2. Sailing the Seas of Cheese 3. Pork Soda Primus Sucks!
Desaturating Seven is based on a children’s book “The Rainbow Goblins” that Les Claypools kids really loved. The book is about goblins who drink the colour from the rainbow when it touches the ground, and that is why rainbows don’t touch the ground anymore. Pretty weird album and probably my least favourite Primus album. Chocolate Factory is crazy, the songs are in the same order as they appear in Willy Wonka. The tour for that album was awesome. They did a full regular Primus set and then transformed the stage to look like the chocolate room and played the entire album with movie clips on a giant screen. Seas of Cheese is still number one for me though. On a side note. Mr Krinkle is about Mike Bordin from Faith No More. It’s a name he used to use when booking hotel rooms. The song is based on conversations Les had with Mike.
pork, frizzle, sailing, brown, miscellaneous... pretty much contemporaneous with my high school years (brown was after school)... a lot of acid in those days, rare were the girls that liked primus, the ones that did, were the coolest chicks.
Definitely agree with you about the Antipop album, always thought it was a great Primus offering. The band is so good it's difficult to rank their output but the top 3 as you say are pretty much universal and with good reason 👍
I've liked a lot of your videos, but knew the bands you were talking about. Somehow, other than a couple songs, I don't know them at all. I wanna pick up a primus vinyl, so I'm very curious about your opinions here.
Let's try this: 9- Primus and the Chocolate Factory 8- The Desaturating Seven 7- Antipop 6- Brown Album 5- Green Naugahyde 4- Frizzle Fry 3- Pork Soda 2- Sailing The Seas Of Cheese 1- Tales from the Punchbowl
Oh man! Glad to see some Love for fcking Primus!!! Even though they suck 😅😁✌ my list goes: 1- Frizzle fry 2- suck on this! (Live album) 3- sailing the seas of cheese 4- Brown album 5- pork soda 6- tales from the punchbowl 7- green naugahyde 8- the desaturating seven 9- Antipop 10- Primus and the chocolate factory If I could add " Rhinoplasty " and "miscellaneous debris" they'd both be in my top 5! Cool to find your channel 😎 🍻
Recently just jumped head first into Primus and I love them. Now I'm kicking myself for not seeing them a few months ago. Seas of Cheese is my favorite as well. Freaking masterpiece.
I saw that same tour and I can definitely agree with you! It broke up the vibe of the show to play Desaturating Seven in full, but was enjoyable at least!
Green at 8? Wow. I thought it was really good. Top 4 for me. 1.Cheese 2.Brown(I think it's my fav but I am partial to Tim) 3.Frizzle 4.Green 5.Pork Soda 6.Punchbowl 7. Antipop And haven't listened to the other 2
Solid ranking overall! I've never thought about ranking them myself, but the top 3 are definitely the first three. Top 4 if we include the Suck On This! In the mix.
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I don't listen to it much either, but I love it in practice for it's raw quality, and it's fun to hear Larry live on the older gear. To think he went from Possessed straight to that always puts a smile on my face!
Good vid! My ranking: 9 The Chocolate Factory 8 The Desaturating Seven 7 Brown Album 6 Antipop 5 Tales From The Punchbowl 4 Pork Soda 3 Green Naugahyde 2 Frizzle Fry 1 Sailing The Seas Of Cheese
Completely agree with you in everything except for the jammy part, that's their first characteristics. Their album ARE jammy. And I would put pork soda in first position and antipop in the second.
The only thing I HATE about pork soda is diamondback sturgeon, I just can't hear it after the start 10 second, Lirycs fault. Appreciate it in live version. Only primus song that make me this effect
Any Primus list is a good list. This is mine: 1. Seas of cheese 2. Pork soda 3. Frizzle fry 4. Desaturating seven 5. Tales from the punchbowl 6. Brown album 7. Chocolate factory 8. Green naugahyde 9. Antipop I didn't know Les Claypool hated antipop... cool! I should say that "Animals should not try to act like people" is one of my favorite, but it's an EP, so...
Naugahyde is an artificial leather. I told my Mom the name of the record and she laughed, and said naugahyde became popular in the 70's. Apparently Nauga was a creature made up by the add campaign in explanation to where the material to make the furniture came from, saying that the 'Nauga' doesn't have to be slaughtered to shed it's skin. They sold weird little Nauga dolls and everything.
I love your list! The Disaturated Seven is awesome, it's better than the other new albums. I used to only like 2 songs off Pork Soda, but than the entire album grew on me, now it's my favorite Primus album, with Seas of Cheese not too far behind. The only reason why I like Pork Soda a bit more is because it's longer, so more Primus music. Heres my list. 1. Pork Soda 2. Seas of Cheese 3. Frizzle Fry 4. The Disaturated Seven 5. Antipop 6. Brown album 7. Punchbowl 8. Green Naugahyde 9. Primus and the Chocolate factory.
Chocolate Factory is a sweet album (no pun intended). Imo it's my favorite because it's so insane. I love primus because they are weird as fuck, and the weirder their songs get the more I love them.
9. Antipop 8. The desaturating seven 7. Primus & the chocolate factory 6. Tales from the punchbowl 5. The brown album 4. Green naugahyde 3. Frizzle fry 2. Sailing the seas of cheese 1. Pork soda
I just like all of them, but I do agree some are better than others, but all bands are like that. But I do feel primus and the chocolate factory is a chill out headphones album, to get sucked into and mellow out and relax.
I count 'Suck on This' as their first album. I know it's live, but it's amazing. Not the first studio album though but, still, it can stand against any of the studio albums to me.
More or less agree with the ranking. You made good reasons for eaxh one. About Pork Soda second part, Pressman is right before Mr.Krinkle....that is one of their best... Also, I think at least two side project albums and EP belong to the list 1. Highball with the Devil 1996 ( place above Naughahyde ) 2.Sausage - Riddles Are Abound Tonight 1994 ( As good as Frizzle, Seas & Soda , top place! ) 3. Animals should not try to act like People 2003 ( pinnacle of late Primus, also deserves company at the top ) 4.Miscelaneus Debris & Rhinoplasty
I have one Primus CD. "Sailing the Seas of Cheese." & It's a masterpiece. But I also have their DVD. "Animals should not try to Act like People." Which is a collection of their best videos from various albums. Generally not my fave style of music. But give credit where it's due. Primus kicks ass! 🤘🤪🤘
You placed Antipop just below Soda, Frizzle, and Seas and ranked Desat above the Brown Album and Punchbowl, so I just don't know what you're smoking, but you have the top three correct at least still not necessarily the order I would put those three in.
I agree with most everything your saying. I would put Frizzle Fry at number 1. Anyone I introduced to Primus that became a fan was through that album. Anti pop is up there along with the brown album but I also like Animals should not act like people especially Mary the ice cube
DId you skip "Suck On This" and "Miscellaneous Debris"? Suck On This is soooo heavy, and is live album. It has the BEST versions of Tommy the Cat, Too Many Puppies, Frizzle Fry and Groundhogs Day. I almost hated the polished, recorded versions of these songs when they were released on subsequent albums. The rawness of "Suck on This" captures perfectly the energy of their early live shows.
A coworker at Chili’s dared me to play the chocolate factory album during our shift. I didn’t back down on the dare. Weirded the whole staff out. The Guatemalans were especially freaked out while at work.
11 Chocolate Factory 10 Desaturating Seven 9 Antipop 8 Bob Cock and the Yellow Socks 7 Green Naugahyde 6 Punchbowl 5 Brown Album 4 Pork Soda 3 Suck on this 2 Frizzle Fry 1 Seas of Cheese
I kinda disagree with the Primus and the Chocolate Factory album. On one hand, yeah it defeats the purpose of writing a new song, but it’s one of those things like Shoots and Ladders by Korn where you will never hear those songs again without thinking about the creepy, eerie, remake. They found a soundtrack that’s really innocent when played how it was originally, but if it revolves around the devil’s note it gives it a whole new purpose.
Pork Soda would be perfect if the track listing was My Name is Mud Welcome to this World Bob Dmv Nature Boy Pressman Mr.Krinkle Hamburger Train It would be shorter but man it would be great
I would swap the desaturating seven and green naughihide besides that damn fine list. Antipop is indeed a great record. Uhhh does suck on this not count for some reason? It was first right? Not frizzlefry
My Ranking: The Desaturating Seven Chocolate Factory Conspirinoia Green Naugahidbskdysb Rhinoplasty Brown Album Tales from the Punchbowl Antipop Pork Soda Suck on This Seas of Cheese Frizzle Fry
1 Seas of Cheese 2 Pork Soda 3 Frizzle Fry 4 Tales From the Punchbowl 5 Green Naugahyde 6 Antipop 7 Desaturating Seven 8 Brown Album 9 Primus and the Chocolate Factory Granted some of these spots are biased by sentimentality factor and what have you ...
The ONLY song I like on antipop is Natural Joe, that song is groovy af. But the rest of the album is yuck lol. I LOVE scissorman, I thought it was about scissorman from clock tower lol
I've been listening to Primus for decades and Green Naugahyde is their best album (Cheese is a close second)...and that's saying a lot because they have so many great albums! This album is fucking awesome! It sounds to me that you must know how to play guitar pretty good, but know nothing about songwriting.
A bit harsh, but yes, it's among the best songwriting they ever done. But those early albums we're groundbreaking and pushed the boundaries in the early nineties. In 2011, Green Naugahyde did not create a new style. But yes, seeing that tour, Primus was in top form.
Sounds like you aren't very familiar with any of the PRIMUS LPs aside from Frizzle Fry, Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda. Sounded like you were complaining about them being too "Jammy"... Which absolutely baffles me because PRIMUS is a essentially a Psychedelic "Jammy" type of band. Especially now days, and they've been that way for such a long time. Especially in their live performances, which is so much better than any album version of any song they've ever made. I heard you say you've only seen PRIMUS live once, so that right there makes a lotta sense out of the... curious order you ranked their albums in. No disrespect, music is subjective, so I'm not gonna give you any shit for your objective opinion. However, ranking Punchbowl over Desaturating, Brown Album, etc. That was definitely a "WTF?!?" Moment for me. N then breaking down Pork Soda into two halves, saying that the first half of that LP is great and the second half is not good aside from Krinkle... I do not understand most of your criticisms, at all, but like I already pointed out, music is subjective and I respect your opinion. Even though I really hate to admit that. It's all love for the greatest band alive, so I'm not gonna be a dick like a lot of people probably will be and tell you that you're "wrong" or whatever. Fuckin', Hats Off to ya man, go see PRIMUS live some more, that's just something everyone should do, as much as possible. Aight, that's it. PRIMUS SUCKS! -
I dont dislike their jammy stuff. I just prefer the more traditional songwriting on those first few albums. Of course I'm more familiar with those because they're my favorite albums but I still really enjoy basically all their albums
First heard Primus in the PS2 game “ATV OFF-ROAD FURY” Jerry was a Racecar Driver was on it; I thought it was annoying lmao. Years later I rediscovered the song and band. Primus is my 2nd favorite band and btw PRIMUS SUCKS!
you are insane if you think tales of the punchbowl goes under brown, antipop, the desaturated seven?!!?....jesus christ man lmao tales from the punchbowl had over the electric grapevine and southbound pachyderm, easily two out of their top 5 best songs, songs that have not ever left their live set list rotation
Loved this

You do a video on Frog Brigade or just Les Claypool side bands overall? :D listened to the shit out of Purple Onion and Animals cover album.
Could be cool! I'd have to check those out first
Sailing The Seas Of Cheese is their masterpiece. Frizzle Fry a close second for me and then Pork Soda
I agree with all of this!
I saw that same tour and I can definitely agree with you! It broke up the vibe of the show to play Desaturating Seven in full, but was enjoyable at least!
It was still a killer set!
Green at 8? Wow. I thought it was really good. Top 4 for me.
1.Cheese
2.Brown(I think it's my fav but I am partial to Tim)
3.Frizzle
4.Green
5.Pork Soda
6.Punchbowl
7. Antipop
And haven't listened to the other 2
Brown album is getting a lot of love in my comments I gotta revisit it lol
brown album is criminally underrated. it crushes.
Solid ranking overall! I've never thought about ranking them myself, but the top 3 are definitely the first three. Top 4 if we include the Suck On This! In the mix.
Suck on this is cool, but not one I listen to too much lol
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I don't listen to it much either, but I love it in practice for it's raw quality, and it's fun to hear Larry live on the older gear. To think he went from Possessed straight to that always puts a smile on my face!
You should make an appearance on Loudwire's Gear Factor playing the guitar riffs that influenced you as well as your favorite Bestial Tongues riffs.
If they have me lmao
Good vid!
My ranking:
9 The Chocolate Factory
8 The Desaturating Seven
7 Brown Album
6 Antipop
5 Tales From The Punchbowl
4 Pork Soda
3 Green Naugahyde
2 Frizzle Fry
1 Sailing The Seas Of Cheese
I can get behind this!
Now THIS is the list. For me I would flip Pork Soda and Green Naugahyde - which by the way is a killer album.
This is mine:
1. Seas of cheese
2. Pork soda
3. Frizzle fry
4. Desaturating seven
5. Tales from the punchbowl
6. Brown album
7. Chocolate factory
8. Green naugahyde
9. Antipop
I didn't know Les Claypool hated antipop...
1. Pork Soda
2. Seas of Cheese
3. Frizzle Fry
4. The Disaturated Seven
5. Antipop
6. Brown album
7. Punchbowl
8. Green Naugahyde
9. Primus and the Chocolate factory.
A near flawless ranking, quite similar to mine yet I had the Brown Album in my top 3.
Chocolate Factory is a sweet album (no pun intended). Imo it's my favorite because it's so insane. I love primus because they are weird as fuck, and the weirder their songs get the more I love them.
Lol nice yeah if you’re into the more weird side of the primus sound then I can totally see that being your favorite
9. Antipop
8. The desaturating seven
7. Primus & the chocolate factory
6. Tales from the punchbowl
5. The brown album
4. Green naugahyde
3. Frizzle fry
2. Sailing the seas of cheese
1. Pork soda
I feel the first 3 are always the best!
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 cause' they're classic
I just like all of them, but I do agree some are better than others, but all bands are like that. But I do feel primus and the chocolate factory is a chill out headphones album, to get sucked into and mellow out and relax.
Yeah the chocolate factory album is cool but not something I’d go out of my way to listen to
Hes wearing a DTP shirt. Devin townsend ranking confirmed!
At 2k subs I’m gonna do a tier list of all his rankings!
Also, I think at least two side project albums and EP belong to the list
1. Highball with the Devil 1996 ( place above Naughahyde )
2.Sausage - Riddles Are Abound Tonight 1994 ( As good as Frizzle, Seas & Soda , top place! )
3. Animals should not try to act like People 2003 ( pinnacle of late Primus, also deserves company at the top )
4.Miscelaneus Debris & Rhinoplasty
I have one Primus CD.
"Sailing the Seas of Cheese."
& It's a masterpiece.
But I also have their DVD.
"Animals should not try to Act
like People."
Which is a collection of their best videos from various albums.
Generally not my fave style of music.
But give credit where it's due.
Primus kicks ass! 🤘🤪🤘
Did you see the secret video in animals should not try tu act like people? Where les Claypool say that he is the only one left in the band.

Not that I can recall.
How do I access this?

You are welcome
In all honesty, "brown", is my favorite album by Primus
You placed Antipop just below Soda, Frizzle, and Seas and ranked Desat above the Brown Album and Punchbowl, so I just don't know what you're smoking, but you have the top three correct at least still not necessarily the order I would put those three in.
I agree with most everything your saying. I would put Frizzle Fry at number 1. Anyone I introduced to Primus that became a fan was through that album. Anti pop is up there along with the brown album but I also like Animals should not act like people especially Mary the ice cube
Brown album is my fav
I see a lot of love for it in the comments!
What about Rhinoplasty? I guess it is more kinda like an EP with some bonus Primus fan stuff on it.
Green Naugahyde my fav along with Seas of cheese ;) and the new EP suck of course!
When I listen to antipop I was surprised of how good it was and my dad was telling me that it was not good but I think it's good
Yeah it was so surprising! I was expecting it to suck
Antipop sounds like an attempt to cash in on the numetal craze. and 3 songs on the album sound like RATM, due to Tom Morrello being on them.
Heckler on suck on this is way better than on anti pop imo too , still love antipop
@@JuanR20421 Totally agreed 1000%. I forgot all about that song. What a great tune. Thanks for reminding me!
I know it's a live album but I still like "Suck On This" the most.
It’s a fun record for sure!
So now it`s time to get into The Residents (start with Duck Stab and u hear where Les stole everything!)
Iiiinteresting
Anitpop came out when I was 16. Thought it was solid as fuck then, still think it's solid as fuck. \,,/
the bass line for dmv is just Jerry was a race car driver simplified
A coworker at Chili’s dared me to play the chocolate factory album during our shift. I didn’t back down on the dare. Weirded the whole staff out. The Guatemalans were especially freaked out while at work.
Lol that’s sick!
Chocolate Factory, Antipop, Green Naugahyde, Desaturating 7, Punchbowl, Seas of Cheese, Brown Album, Frizzle Fry, Pork Soda
I can get behind this!
i love the song hamburger train so much idk why but
They came to OKC and played Southbound Pachyderm
Brown Album is underrated af! Just sayin. Pork Soda is my fave.
11 Chocolate Factory
10 Desaturating Seven
9 Antipop
8 Bob Cock and the Yellow Socks
7 Green Naugahyde
6 Punchbowl
5 Brown Album
4 Pork Soda
3 Suck on this
2 Frizzle Fry
1 Seas of Cheese
Mostly agree. I would’ve put pork soda at 1 and seas of cheese at 3
Primus fan makes ranking video...as it should be.
Ive only heard like 5 songs from these guys... better change that soon!!
Pork Soda would be perfect if the track listing was
My Name is Mud
Welcome to this World
Bob
Dmv
Nature Boy
Pressman
Mr.Krinkle
Hamburger Train
It would be shorter but man it would be great
If you enjoy late '90s rock albums, do you like green day's "nimrod"?
one of the best ever!
Some girls like to kiss my face
Is It Luck?
id switch frizzle fry and seas of cheese but otherwose agree
I would swap the desaturating seven and green naughihide besides that damn fine list. Antipop is indeed a great record. Uhhh does suck on this not count for some reason? It was first right? Not frizzlefry
Suck On This is basically a live album that's why I didnt include it
Where would you put Conspiranoia?
Wait no love for hamburger train on pork soda ? that song heavy an hard af
Just now getting into Antipop after 20+ years
way better than people make it out to be!
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I agree! Great channel btw 🤘👍
@@rolaki thanks dude!
I wish they'd take Les' radio mic and envelope and wah pedals away from him. That said, Punchbowl's my absolute favourite.
My Ranking:
The Desaturating Seven
Chocolate Factory
Conspirinoia
Green Naugahidbskdysb
Rhinoplasty
Brown Album
Tales from the Punchbowl
Antipop
Pork Soda
Suck on This
Seas of Cheese
Frizzle Fry
They made a mockery and what's there label?
1 Seas of Cheese
2 Pork Soda
3 Frizzle Fry
4 Tales From the Punchbowl
5 Green Naugahyde
6 Antipop
7 Desaturating Seven
8 Brown Album
9 Primus and the Chocolate Factory
Granted some of these spots are biased by sentimentality factor and what have you ...
brown album is my #4
The ONLY song I like on antipop is Natural Joe, that song is groovy af. But the rest of the album is yuck lol.
I LOVE scissorman, I thought it was about scissorman from clock tower lol
Where’s Suck on This on your list? There first album and it was live
I like Suck on This. Don't do live albums in my rankings though
What about Miscellaneous Debris 🤘
love it, but don't include EPs in my rankings!
Primus
pork soda>cheese>frizzle
Really tales from the punch bowl this low
So difficult to get into those vocals, could have been a bigger band if they had a better singer imo
Were would you put Misc debri, Animals shouldn't act like people
This list gives me anxiety I have to remember everyone has an opinion
lolololol
First heard Primus in the PS2 game “ATV OFF-ROAD FURY” Jerry was a Racecar Driver was on it; I thought it was annoying lmao. Years later I rediscovered the song and band. Primus is my 2nd favorite band and btw PRIMUS SUCKS!
Hell yes! The best dude and yes primus sucks
you are insane if you think tales of the punchbowl goes under brown, antipop, the desaturated seven?!!?....jesus christ man lmao tales from the punchbowl had over the electric grapevine and southbound pachyderm, easily two out of their top 5 best songs, songs that have not ever left their live set list rotation
Ok lol
