      Didn't I? I thought I did...I made this video 4 years ago, I know I recorded that part, but maybe it was too boring and math heavy...Had to use Pi and solve for "x". In any case, YES, you will need to make the barrel a specific size to accommodate the Pattern.

  • @richdobbs6595

    Another idea for making the roller would be to start with a Sonotube. A 48"x10" one is about 16 dollars at Home Depot. A lot less work than all of the kerf cutting and glueing. You could cast the hubs out of concrete, with the axle in place, and a hole in the first hub. The hole would provide a means to add concrete for the second hub, as well as filling with sand afterwords. You might want to attach a board inside, along one side, to provide a place to attach the stamp. Heck, now that I think about it, you could just fill it with sand before casting the second hub which would be simpler than flipping it.

    Nice why don't create 2 mold and use them walking over them to stamp ? Maybe the quantity of silicone. I will try it to do for floor and wall. Thanks from France man

    You can buy a stamp for about $200 or rent a set for a day. I really suggest spending the $100 on a can of liquid release instead of using mineral spirits. Also, getting a brick texture to line up and look good is even hard for professionals. I'd suggest just going with a stone texture. It is way easier and looks just as good. Also, you need a good antiquing color for the top to bring out the texture. Then spend $100 on poly seal EZ sealer. Lastly. The concrete is by far the biggest cost, and you have about a one hour window to get it stamped or you will be ripping it out and redoing it which will cost more than having a profesional do it in the first place. One concrete arives, you have about 3 hours max to get the job done before it hardens up. If you have never finished concret before, you REALLY do not want to start with stamped

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  4 роки тому

      This true. IF you have a place to rent stamps, great. To buy A stamp for $200 is one thing, but you'll likely need a minimum of 3 stamps to make a decent pattern. Release agent is the best stuff, but it's not available everywhere (definitely not where I am). All of your points are valid! Thanks for the comment!

    Do you have sense of the mass per linear foot or downpressure required? I’m debating scaling this up to a 14’ wide, 1000’ long driveway. Would be most convenient to do it with a single 14’ long roller constructed from steel, but it would help to have a ballpark for the target weight.

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  3 роки тому

      really depends on the pour conditions. if you wait too long you'll need more weight. too soon it will sink in.
      this roller is 28" wide and weighs about 50lbs.
      if you do this PLEASE send pics
      you can reach me through my website www.beddeskplans.com

      @@TheHowtoDad Thanks! Scaling 28" inches to 14' sounds like about 300-400 pounds which seems reasonable. Makes me wish I could pour starting at the top of the hill and working downward, but alas, I'll make do. Do you have any sense of the volume of mineral spirits required per area (e.g. per sq. yard)? That would make it easier to design a continuous drip of mineral spirits ahead of the roller. Thanks! If I do it I'll send pictures (and likely file a couple patents along the way).

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  3 роки тому

      @@stephenromaniello you might want to consider making multiple passes... You'll have to make control cuts, so maybe use those as your roller joints.
      As for the mineral spirits, for such a large pour you'll want to use a commercially available release agent. Talk to your local concrete supplier. I am no expert.
      I'm just going to say it, 14ft is way to wide. WAY to wide.

    cool idea! I would have probably used a 12" concrete sonotube for the roller, cheap, easier. Wonder how well this would work with a slate pattern, might give it a go, got a lot of concrete to do on my house.

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  5 років тому

      For sure would have been easier. That or a Pvc drain pipe. The sonotube might not work well in the wet environment

      @@TheHowtoDad good call, i was just thinking that. Was trying to think cheap, pvc that size is expensive but i guess it would be worth it for a quality tool. Possibly sonotube with a good thick coating of poly would do. Cant think of anything else off the self about that size and cheap.

And do you poor with the mesh on the bottom of the concrete, or do you lift the reinforcing mesh up into the concrete? Thanks.

      Mix normally. The key is waiting for the poured and floated concrete to set up to a point where it will support the roller. Basically you wait until you can stick your finger into the concrete up to the first knuckle on your finger
